The ‘Winnie’ party (aka ‘NZ First’)? Lots of noise, little action of any consequence. Winnie certainly likes the sound of his voice, but does very little in reality.
As they didn’t get enough votes to get into Parliament the other ‘little’ ight-wing parties have largely vanished, and with seemingly no alternative options, it would now appear that, come next election, labour will take control by default.

Why did they not say that means NZ First, for doing a Veto on that, will now go & sit on the cross benches, & only give support on a clause by clause on other issues, & only give support on the Budget..

I don’t know why people persist in taking potshots at NZ First. They’re a MINOR PARTY. They don’t get to drive the bus, they get to sit on it and try to shout directions at the driver.

Thank you. Unfortunately NZF ARE important in the NZ political scene by virtue of being a partner in the coalition, and as you have implied, they are certainly very aware of this fact (Especially in their role as a buffer against the creeping socialism that is currently infecting the nats).

On June 17, the Bill was voted down by 63 votes from Labour, NZ First and the Green Party during its first reading in Parliament.
“I’m hugely disappointed … they didn’t give it a chance, they didn’t even allow it to go to select committee for improvements,” King said.

I’ve got to say, National are a huge disappointment. If you’re going to vote for National, you’re better off voting Labour – same end result, but you’ll get there a bit faster.

The paper was released in draft form to the Herald under the Official Information Act. The Herald confirmed the same provision was in the final paper that was taken to Cabinet early this year to procure two new rail-enabled ferries.
Peters’ Cabinet colleague David Seymour thinks the Government should walk through that door and eventually privatise the ferries. Strangely, the strongest opposition to that may come from Peters himself, who, having opened the door to part-privatisation in the Cabinet paper, shut it again when approached for comment by the Herald.
In a statement, Peters strongly implied he would be very unlikely to consent to the ferries being privatised.
“It is entirely standard to consider the best use of assets when building and buying them. After all, we are about the best result for taxpayers and that involves considering every opportunity.

I’ve long given up on nails & ordinary wood screws which have been consigned to the rubbish bin. They’ve been replaced with a full range of No 2 drive chipboard screws in yellow zinc & stainless for outdoors. For something more heavy duty there’s bugle headed batten screws. With a decent battery drill it gives you a hand free to hold the pieces in position or scratch your balls as your fancy dictates.

Customs seizes 150kg of cocaine bricks in Tauranga
Cocaine worth an estimated $58.2 million has been found at the Port of Tauranga in a shipping container from Jamaica.
Customs officers based at the port seized an estimated 150kg of the Class A drug from a container destined for New Zealand.
The container, which arrived from Kingston, Jamaica, was assessed as part of standard procedures for all incoming cargo, people and vessels, Customs said in a statement today.
This led to the discovery of six duffel bags packed with bricks of cocaine.
The bricks were marked with an “X”, the words “good luck” and a coat of arms bearing the Latin phrase Custodi Civatatem Domine — meaning “Guard the city, O Lord.
It comes after Customs seized 130kg of cocaine worth up to $50.44m at the Port of Tauranga in May, found in duffle bags in a container from Italy. The 1kg blocks had a picture of a lion on the outside and “GGG” branding in that case.

How does the economics of this work? Presumably the figures quoted are street value but you would think a number of seizures like these would still be costing the importers plenty. How many can they afford to lose before the business becomes unprofitable?
It’s highly profitable so the traffickers can afford to lose consignments & regard seizures as a cost of doing business.
For an idea, consider that a gram of cocaine in Bolivia has a street value of about $6US. Presumably the intending importer would buy cheaper in bulk. That same gram in the USA would cost between $60 & $200US influenced by various factors such as location & purity.
