Imagine a country with 1 trillion dollars of debt, 10 million people of working age and 5 million senior citizens. Imaging another country with 1 trillion dollars of debt, 5 million people of working age and 10 million senior citizens. How much harder for the second country to manage its national debt!
The East and West are piling on the debt and at the same time are not birthing the next generation of tax payers. This can’t go on except through massive currency debasement (inflation).

Many years ago, I had considered heading to Argentinia for about a month.
Just to experience inflation at those high levels, to see how people, business’s coped with it in everday life.
In part one of their principles was to spend the money as soon as you can, get it into an “asset” that one can trade.
To hire purchase, Pay later concepts as payback was in cheaper future money, though do understand the interest rate charges.
Of course I could not afford that then, let alone the time away.

If wages keep pace with inflation then I agree that the price of consumables has only historic significance. There’s no doubt that the average person in NZ today has a higher standard of living than his counterpart of a century back.

Crown Observer issues warning after Ray Chung’s lewd Tory Whanau email, council CEO investigating
The fallout from Ray Chung’s explicit email about Tory Whanau continues, with the Prime Minister calling it “vile and unacceptable”.
Wellington City Council’s Crown observer has raised the issue with the Local Government Minister’s office, and the council’s CEO is investigating a possible code of conduct breach.
The Herald on Friday revealed Chung had sent an email to fellow councillors in 2023 sharing a rumour of Tory Whanau having drug-fuelled “tempestuous sex” and making reference to her having “pendulous soft breasts”.
Whanau denies the incident ever took place and has described the email, titled “A sordid night on the town”, as “creepy”.
She said Chung emailed her an apology this afternoon.
