Health Minister Shane Reti announces $30 million investment for faster access to radiology services
”At the moment, some New Zealanders are having to wait weeks or months to see a hospital specialist who then refers them to radiology services, where they may wait even longer,” Reti said.
New Zealanders will be able to get earlier diagnosis with primary health providers being able to refer patients, rather than waiting for a specialist, he said.
Services will be delivered across both public hospitals, where available, and private radiology providers.
”Currently, access to radiology for GPs varies according to previous district health board rules. This means that, for instance, people living in the Hutt Valley don’t get the same access to radiology available to people living in Wellington,” Reti said.
”This investment will remove co-payments on X-ray, CT scans and diagnostic ultrasound, whilst also enabling primary health providers to refer patients directly where clinically appropriate.
“The first investment will be in Wellington and the Hutt Valley, where we are equalising access to radiology by investing $2.6 million annually to reduce co-payments and recognise increases in imaging numbers as the population becomes older and more complex.

The value of companies’ dividend payments more than doubled, from $23.6 billion to $49.4b, in the tax year to March 31, 2024, according to figures Inland Revenue gave the Herald.
Baker Tilly Staples Rodway’s head of tax services, Mike Rudd, in February told the Herald he was encouraging companies owned by trusts to pay out excess retained earnings to make the most of the 33 per cent trustee tax rate before it rose.

Two new Māori place names have been proposed for Auckland suburbs.
The first is to give the name Te Tōangaroa to an area on Auckland’s waterfront, while the second is to correct the spelling of the suburb Takanini to Takaanini.
Consultation on the proposals are now underway, with both supported by mana whenua.
The New Zealand Geographic Board is opening consultations on a proposal to correct and restore two Māori place names in Auckland.
The Board is hearing proposals to restore the original Māori name Te Tōangaroa to an area on Auckland’s waterfront, as well as to correct the spelling of the suburb Takanini to Takaanini.
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei is wanting to see the return of the traditional Māori name Te Tōangaroa and assign it as an official place name for an area bordered by Britomart Place, Beach Road, Quay Street and State Highway 16.
This piece of land is home to Spark Arena, The Strand Railway Station, Te Taou Reserve, Mahuhu ki te Rangi Park and several apartment buildings.
