  1. Morning folks. Another early start from me. Not sleeping very well.

    • Is it being anxious in these times people are not sleeping well? The communistic lifestyle doesn’t suit me and yes I do feel anxious not due to the flue but the complete takeover by the government and so many could not see it coming, well they sure will soon. Or do they want this life? Half a billion dollars a week it’s costing I read yesterday, how long can they keep it up? I see wine stone in the daily mail spouting off it was a breach of people coming in to the country that caused the new outbreak? Well I don’t think it could be from frozen items coming into NZ does anyone?

      • I don’t think the country can afford what’s happening at the moment and definitely can’t afford another lockdown, I know my company couldn’t survive another Canute inspired vanity project to make dear leaders C.V look better. The jeanie is out of the bottle, protect the vulnerable and let the rest of us get on with it. Anyone who is worried can self isolate and get everything they need delivered. At the moment we are facing death by a thousand cuts. Hard times don’t last, hard men do. Let us get on with our lives bitch.

        • The mad Queen will be trying to keep the election on track – because everything has been designed around September 21st. Shortly after that date, the country will run out of money, so we will be faced with a dilemma – we will have to turn off the free flow of money – and she knows it!
I have been watching the value of my offshore accounts rising over the last month or so, and I notice that overnight they have gained again. The NZ$ will hit a low just after election time, when the government will have to either i) Turn off the money flow or ii) Print more money or iii) Devalue the NZ$. Judith knows this, and will be trying to push out the election date by a month or two – nobody will vote to support the Queen when she stops the flow of all this free money !

          • National realises that the happy, wage-subsidy-drugged voters will tick the Labour box.

It will be to National’s advantage to have a drug-free, wide-awake and deeply concerned electorate ready to cast its vote to save the country’s future.

Labour isn’t working. Labour isn’t about working.

      • And for Kea who thinls this is just another flu.
Here is a FB page where people shrae the results of getting the virus.
And before kea starts to squark with his misinformed squark I had a Dad who ws badly affected with the 1919 Flu and had th issues all his life of 72 years., so can identify with the things they are saying. Rather better than a misinformed fruit cake.

          • Viking. Can you elucidate a little bit. I tightly limit my FB membership so won’t be signing up. And quite frankly, these days I treat just about everything from the NZ Herald as a lie from liars hell-bent on spreading the CoL’s fear-mongering.

Every year, there is a new strain(s) of the ‘flu and the cold. Scientists because they can never use a simple word like “New” where a self-important, fluffed up, big word like “novel” will make them feel good about themselves.

We also know that there are people who no matter what have extreme sickness symptoms and others who make a big production of smallest of ailments. I’m not sure that more anecdotes means anything at all. If anything it counter-balances the numbers of anecdotes we hear about people getting Covid positive tests while being totally asymptomatic.

If you are saying “some people react badly to Covid” – I would say that seems like a perfectly reasonable statement given what one would expect given a statistically normal distribution of reactions to Covid. But if you are saying “OMG WuFlu is really, really scary we all have to listen to St Jacinda look at what the Herald says” then I’m not seeing it.

          • The mind-controlled, pay-for-play, recipient of part of the $50 million media bribe (stage one) Herald as a source.
            Yeah, Nah.
You have to do better than that TGA man .

I would imagine if I read that virus-ridden wreck of a rag that it comes down hard and bloated on JuCo, Big Gerry, and Bridges and praises Ardoom, Robbers son, Twitford, and invisible Kelvin.

I also imagine if I read that rag I would have headaches from the flow of bullshit.
            So I don’t and I won’t.

The Horrid is not the product of the Horton Family it was in the yesteryear.
It has been taken over by filth. Mentally ill sickos with a high rate of drug abuse and meth users.

If you want to be taken seriously or push an argument you won’t quote that nasty thing.
It is no longer a ‘newspaper of record’ and, as I have written more than once on YSB, it will make the work of future historians near impossible.

You also cannot realistically source Skidmark Fuckerturd’s Fakebook. That only ‘publishes’ what it wants and bans the rest.
Hardly a ‘source’. It is a disparate collection of what are basically personal letters and opinion pieces. At best, Op Eds.

You have to do better than that.

I hear people damning The Great and Mighty President D J Trump and their source is …ta da..the New York Slimes.

It is not credible to say you have an argument them quote bullshit sources.
I’m sure Tova No’Brain and the screaming shrew from RNZ will spout with ‘apparent authority’ but are they credible?
            Be more discerning.

Note the long list of things you are not allowed to say on that FB page? It’s a misinformation site. They demand you support their emotive ignorant narrative.

Your, already feeble, higher thinking, has been bypassed by vulgar and unsophisticated plays on emotion.

“Tuberculosis kills more people than any other infectious disease, according to information shared by the United Nations (UN) on Tuesday.

Around 1.5 million people died from the bacterial infection in 2018, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported, bringing attention to World Tuberculosis Day on March 24.”

              • There are about half a million deaths per annum from Malaria each year with over 200 million at any one time suffering from malaria for the rest of their lives.
But the ‘environmentalists’ went troppo over DDT !
The likes of Soimon Upton -Environmental Commissioner – and champion of the fricking RMA.

There are approx 1.2 million deaths a year from car accidents.
Imagine if the NZ govt had spent even half of the money spend so far on double laning all arterial routes with centre barriers. This would cut these deaths considerably.
There are still more deaths from The Swine flu in NZ in 2009 -36- than from Covid.

This is not a health matter – which is why Clark went mountain biking (worked that out yet? )- but a political/economic move.
                A deadly economic move.
80,000 people died from the flu 2 years ago in USA and 4-8000 in Australia from the same strain but none of this hysteria and blanket terror.

It there really was a war on terror the guns would point at this wall to wall fear mongering.

          • “People with chronic pulmonary or cardiac disease, or diabetes mellitus, are at high risk of developing severe complications from influenza A viruses, which may include hemorrhagic bronchitis, pneumonia (primary viral or secondary bacterial)…”

The coronavirus is a form of flu, a nasty one at that, but not much more. It’s the complications of the flu that kill people with the co-morbidities described above. If you are under 60 and healthy, you have a far better chance of survival. On the other hand, even the young can easily sucumb to pneumonia once it gets a hold.

Safeguard the elderly and let the coronavirus burn itself out, to avoid more deaths due to the disruption of our medical services. I am awfully glad that I am not an oncology out-patient at the moment.

Kea you are as usual full of bullshit.
That others think you are a major brain is alarming and I guess leaves us wondering about the commenters that spend all day on here.
Further I did not suggest anyone support someone else’s rants as you are suggesting but that they could freely rad and make up their own minds about the information. Something you seem to think should not be allowed. Frankly you are a worse controller than Ardern and she is up there in the censorship and control stakes.
Perhaps you would like to reflect the fact they you and just you alone think it is just another flu. Clearly the rest of the thinking world doesn’t agree with you.

      • Talking with a friend about Covid 19 (is there any other subject) he said he read on a link in Stuff that a quarantine facility in Wellington owned by a Chinese national who left NZ for China leaving staff unpaid who then didn’t turn up and the those in quarantine just walked out – 30 . I can’t find the link so wonder –
        1) Is it true?
        2) Is this the revelation Winston refers too?
        3) Is it the unknown source of an existing cluster?
        4) Could it be the source of new cluster?
        5) Does the MOH and the Minister know of this?
Can anyone confirm or refute any of this with facts as I can’t find the link???????????????????????

There are a lot of similarities in the way the 1918 pandemic and COVID-19 have acted so far. But as Mari Webel and Megan Culler Freeman wrote for The Conversation, “COVID-19 has been hard to predict.” Although we must learn from the 1918 pandemic, we can’t assume that the trajectory of COVID-19 will follow the same trends.

  2. Hooten tables the common sense. I wonder if Muller would’ve listened to him. All those billions of dollars, businesses lost, impact on lives. All for nothing.

Paywalled, but opening para’s give you the idea:
“Whoever the next Prime Minister is, they will allow Covid-19 into New Zealand.
Both leaders adamantly deny it now. Polling overwhelmingly demands they publicly support what I called in March the idyllic scenario — where New Zealand tries to live Covid-free, safe behind our 1000-mile moat, awaiting a vaccine.”

  3. The bullshit on deaths is being examined at last.

    United Kingdom

Britain’s official death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic was lowered by over 5,000 on Wednesday as the government adopted a new way of counting fatalities after concerns were raised that the old method overstated them.

The UK government and the devolved regional administrations agreed to publish the number of deaths that occurred within 28 days of a positive, lab-confirmed COVID-19 test result on a daily basis, the Department of Health said. Previously, there was no cut-off time for deaths after a positive test.

    • So in the UK, you could be asymptomatic and then turn in a “positive” result (since the test will pick up traces of the virus). Under the old UK system, if you then died in a car crash three months later, your death would be recorded as a “Covid death”?

If true, that would be totally insane and irresponsible of the government.

Do you really think they want the police & army?
It is the money & authority they are seeking.

Taranaki Mayoral Forum and the Taranaki Iwi Chairs’ Forum say it’s their collective view “we must create a Taranaki bubble to protect our people and our economy”.

Mayoral Forum chair Phil Nixon said the military or police had the authority and resources to run checkpoints.

“What I’m saying is they are government agencies that can do that rather than last time when iwi put together checkpoints and I don’t feel it should be pushed onto them and I also don’t feel it should be landed on us as local authorities.”

    • But there is a much longer term problem

Not only is Covid Cindy’s vanity preventing us all from obtaining herd immunity, but what about the rest of the diseases that are always evolving, always novel strains emerging that we need to be exposed to so that we continue to maintain herd immunity to those diseases. By isolating New Zealanders for ever, we are going to be turned into super vulnerable weaklings who fall prey to every single virus that emerges. Is our future a North Korea style isolation from the rest of the world?

Because every day, every week, every month the closed borders continues, we are getting more and more vulnerable to other disease while the rest of the world is allowed to continue to maintain their herd immunity.

Covid Cindy is going to kill a lot of people in the long run.

The stress we all see on his face, is the pressure of covering up his and the CoL’s gross incompetence.

And I just heard on the radio that anyone raising any concerns about the use of masks is a conspiracy theorist – which I guess makes it official because there is nothing quite so confirming as an official denial!

  10. Three guys, one Irish, one English, and one Scottish are out walking along the beach together one day. They come across a lantern and a Genie pops out of it.
“I will give you each one wish, that’s three wishes in total,” says the Genie.
The Scottish guy says, “I am a fisherman, my Dad’s a fisherman, his Dad was a fisherman and my son will be one too. I want all the oceans full of fish for all eternity.”
So, with a blink of the Genie’s eye “poof” the oceans were teaming with fish.
The Englishman was amazed, so he said, “I want a wall around England, protecting her, so that no one will get in for all eternity.”
Again, with a blink of the Genie’s eye “poof” there was a huge wall around England.
The Irishman asks, “I’m very curious. Please tell me more about this wall.”
The Genie explains, “Well, it’s about 150 feet high, 50 feet thick, protecting England so that nothing can get in or out.”
The Irishman says, “Fill it up with water.”

      There were three legs (brands)

  17. For you personally, what is the difference between Level 3 and Level 4?
My wife commented that the only real difference was the ability to order takeaways.
I did notice far fewer cars on the road at Level 4, so it was nice to cycle up Queen Street (something I had never done before or since).

  18. Coronavirus: Economic hit of Auckland’s three-day lockdown estimated at $150 million
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/money/2020/08/coronavirus-economic-hit-of-auckland-s-three-day-lockdown-estimated-at-150-million.html

Auckland’s three days at level 3 would have cost the city about $150 million in economic activity, according to a leading economist.

“Level 4 knocks out about a third of economic activity – that’s the activity that cannot take place,” ANZ chief economist Sharon Zollner told The AM Show. “Level 3 knocks out a bit under 20, so there is a pretty significant difference between those two levels and the amount of stuff that actually can go on.”

And it could be a bit worse, with many businesses legally able to operate under level 3 perhaps not bothering.

“A lot of restaurants for example won’t bother offering a takeaway service if much of their actual offering is really the experience, as opposed to the food – that higher-end, for example.”

  19. Listening to Mike Hosking this morning interview with Hipkins was like listening to a comedy show. The only difference between Hipkins and Ardern is he does not have any ums and ahs , but the lies and incompetence is still the same.
I was thinking this morning about the criticism that Hosking gets, mainly from the lefties —all the questions he asks, especially those that are in response to an answer given by the person he is interviewing, are exactly the questions his listeners would ask.
That is, they are not “brain of Britain” questions, they are just common sense.

After Hipkins Wednesday interview with Hosking, I thought he may have come along better prepared today but, no he appeared to be even less prepared. Hopeless.

I have said it before but the Government to continue to confirm it — all through this crisis they have reacted to things, they have not made one positive proactive move. This weeks proves me right on this again. Anyone who is looking for a longer term plan or Plan B, forget it because they are incapable of thinking about it. I think the key reason is the main Ministers and probably most of the Cabinet have not had previous experience of having to think about an issue, find a solution, organise the steps needed for the solution and implementing it. This could be through owning/managing a business, running a classroom, running sporting team etc. etc . Being a career politician does not give you that experience.

  24. The setting is the night before the marriage of Prince Charles to Lady Diana. As most Brits will do before their wedding, Charles goes out on a “stag do” with his friends, his brothers, and gets absolutely steaming drunk. The next morning he has no recollection of what happened, but he has a raging hangover. Suddenly he remembers that he is supposed to be at Westminster Abbey for his wedding. Bugger, he rushes around getting on his coat and tails, but he can’t find his shoes anywhere. Then, suddenly, he spots Prince Edward’s shoes, so he grabs those quickly and puts them on. Edward’s shoes are two sizes too small and they are crushing his feet, but he has no choice: he rushes to get the car and go to the service to marry Lady Diana.

Well, the service as agony for him: all hung over and wearing shoes two sizes to small. But he limps through the ceremony, and he limps through the reception, and finally they get to the end of the day and he retires to Kensington Palace with his new bride at the end of the day. Princess Diana goes into the bathroom to make herself ready for her big night, and Charles finally has a moment to himself.

Unbeknownst to Charles, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have their concerns to make sure that Charles does his royal duty on his wedding night. So they go to the room next door and listen intently at the wall.

At this exact moment Charles is trying to pull off the first one of Edward’s shoes.

“Oh, Jesus Christ, I cannot believe how tight that is – bloody hell, arrghh! Ah…. that’s better.”

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh look at each other, and then the Queen smiles regally. “You see, Philip, I told you she was a virgin!”

Then Charles starts working on the other shoe.

“Shit, God almighty, I don’t believe it. This one is even tighter!”

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh look at each other again and Philip cackles: “That’s my boy! Once a sailor, always a sailor!”

  27. So what now?

I’ve observed over the past 20 years that the Progressive Socialists (Prozis) have one or two defining characteristics above all else, the most idiotic of them is to never, NEVER, EVER say you are sorry or admit you were wrong.

It’s clear that the lie is unravelling very, very fast for Covid Cindy at the moment – what about the ardent Ardern supporters.

Are they capable of changing their minds about voting for a very incompetent and dishonest PM incompetent and a dishonest Labour party? I mean, to do so, they’d have to be intellectually able to admit they were wrong.

As Mark Twain said “It’s easier to fool a man than it is to convince a man he’s been fooled”.

In my experience, when you provide incontrovertible evidence that they’ve been lied to, they pull a mulish face and harden their resolve. They don’t care about facts. They are physically and intellectually unable to change their mind on anything.

The age of reason is over, the age of Lies is upon us.

  28. I don’t do Facebook so a friend, knowing my interest, sent me this which you may find disturbing:

NO WONDER WE NOW HAVE COMMUNITY TRANSMISSION IN NEW ZEALAND!

After reading a 9 August post of Nigel Little’s, (see bottom), and ploughing through all 1,100 comments underneath it, (many of which were unjustifiably accusing Nigel of being xenophobic, presumably because he mentioned the nationality), I contacted the person who had written the comments below, Shawn Patterson. (Shawn has seen this post before I put it up, and has verified it accurately reorts what he told me).

What I find most worrying was that Shawn and the eighty or so people who had arrived from Australia in his batch on 28 July, had their last Covid-19 test on the 8 August, the same day these seven busloads arrived at their hotel from Flight TK 8722 from Hong Kong. Shawn and his cohort were not released until the evening of 11 August. They could have contracted Covid-19 from these new arrivals in that time. Read on and you will see why! They were mingled with the seven busloads of newly arrived Chinese for THREE WHOLE DAYS after their very last Covid-19 test!

Shawn arrived on 28 July in a plane from Australia which was absolutely chock full, 300 to 400 people. When they arrived they were sent to a separate zone where they were asked questions and given a card which said A or B. He was a B and went with about 80 others to the Novatel Ellerslie. He heard the A’s went to Christchurch, but unconfirmed. His wife had arrived in Auckland two weeks earlier and her group had been flown to Wellington on a special flight. Their quarantine was very strict… army on each floor, etc…. unlike the Novatel Ellerslie. After finishing isolation his wife and others were flown back to Auckland on 28 July. (The expense of all this to the NZ taxpayer is massive isn’t it ?!)

Anyway, while Shawn was in Novatel Ellerslie there was a constant stream of new people arriving, from Pakistan, Japan… from all over the world, he tells me.

On the 8 August, seven busloads of Chinese people arrived at the hotel. They had flown in on Turkish Airlines flight 8722, operated by Air NZ, via Hong Kong – see photos. (I attach the photos because people on the original post were complaining that that information has now been removed from the flight tracking site. I don’t know what that is about.)

When people first arrive at the Novatel Ellerslie they are given their passports and a guy with a menu walks around. He hands the guests a pen so that they can tick their choices of what they want to eat for the week, and then hands the pen to the next person. Shawn pointed out that this was an unsafe practice, and that at least the pen should be cleaned between people, but no notice was taken.

People wander freely around the hotel and out into the smoking area. They don’t wear masks in the smoking area, obviously. There are vending machines at reception and people were touching those freely as well as the elevator buttons. Shawn used his cigarette lighter to operate the lift button but others just used their fingers of course. Guests can go outside whenever they like, 24 hours a day. There are no guards on any of the floors.

When the seven busloads of Chinese people arrived off Flight 8722 on the 8 August, Shawn says the amount of luggage was incredible. There were “trolleys and trolleys and trolleys” of new microwaves as well. The guests Shawn knew who were on the side looking down on the carpark said it was unbelievable how much luggage they had and the guard pushing the trolleys was shaking his head in amazement.

Other unsafe practices were for example… a woman, who was presumably poor, kept going through the ashtrays to find enough tobacco to roll herself a smoke.

One of the new arrivals had chewing tobacco and kept spitting it out into the communal ashtrays.

When the seven busloads arrived on the 8th August, the fellow guests Shawn had come to know who were on the side looking down on the carpark said some people got off the bus and rushed to the gates and opened them, and were kissing and hugging their friends who were waiting for them on the other side. The guards were alerted and went and brought them back but, as Shawn says, those people who had been hugged and kissed should have been made to go into isolation too.

    ************************************************

More than one person per day is arriving here in New Zealand from overseas and testing positive for Covid-19….. 68 people since June 16th. Wouldn’t it be better if people got tested BEFORE they got on the planes?!!

In Cairo, Egypt, as Joss Richardson informs me, “You have to get tested before you fly to Cairo and you have to have a medical certificate to get in.” Why haven’t we done this ?

If you look at the chart in this link you will see a woman in her 30’s arrived from Hong Kong on 8 August and was confirmed to have Covid-19 on arrival…. from Flight TK 8722?

    https://www.health.govt.nz/…/covid-19-current-cases-details…

    *********************************************

Shawn’s original comments made under Nigel Little’s post here:

“I’m currently staying in isolation here at the novatel. We were all sent into lockdown for 4 hours while they unloaded them. 7 bus loads! Only a few of them could speak English. The hotel has brought in translaters especially for them. I was in the smoking area when they were let out and what a fucking debarkle. They did not keep any distance between themselves or us. Lighting each other’s cigarettes and coughing everywhere. Dozens of them. We had our last covid test that day. So if we get it between now and when we leave on Tuesday night at 6pm we will be taking it out into the community. Things in here don’t make sense. Pens are shared when you arrive to fill out forms, not cleaned between people and things like that……… A lot of tax payer money being spent here.”

“Read my post…I’m in here and it’s all correct. 7 bus loads. Have only come across 1 that speaks English. Everyone of them bought in brand new microwaves. I saw all the boxes. Chinese microwaves too. There is something not right with this.”

“From what I have seen here, there is definitely something not right. The staff aren’t saying anything, which makes me think if it was all above board they would say so, but when you ask them they say they cannot talk about it and give you that look like I wish I could tell you but I’d loose my job if I did. The tv crews could easily come here into to carpark next door and record them all walking around the grounds in the morning as they do there exercises. But there seems to be a cover up in the media for sure.”

    ********************************

Nigel Little had written on 9 August, 2020:

“So while Cindy campaigns and tells us to be ready for a second wave like Melbourne , she keeps Quiet on 110 non English speaking Chinese arriving at Novotel Ellerslie yesterday with enough baggage for all of Auckland ( one had 180 kgs !!!!)
Are these refugee s or is the border secretly open ?
Bet neither her nor the media want to talk to the “ team of 5 million “
About this ! …. most transparent govt ever ….. yeah right !
Flight arrived at 8.15 Turkish airlines via Hong Kong.”

  29. Just to put “the cat among the pigeons”

    https://thenationalpulse.com/news/un-expert-says-covid-19-bioweapon/

“Given the many mutations of COVID-19, it is extremely unlikely that a single vaccine that blocks the virus will be found. At the moment 11 different strains have been identified: the A2a genetic line which developed in Europe and the B1 genetic line which took root in North America are more contagious than the 0 strain originating in Wuhan. I therefore believe that, at the most, a multivalent vaccine can be found effective on 4-5 strains and thus able to cover 70-75% of the world’s population.”

Coronavirus: Lack of testing of New Zealand’s border staff is ‘extraordinary’ – expert
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2020/08/coronavirus-lack-of-testing-of-new-zealand-s-border-staff-is-extraordinary-expert.html

“I was really shocked to hear the Director-General of Health say a week or two ago that they were aiming to test people [border workers] every two or three weeks, every two or three weeks frankly would be quite inadequate.

“But it now turns out that nothing like that was being achieved and I see the reports that more than 60 percent of people working at the border have never been tested.”

Weekly testing for frontline staff working at the border should have been compulsory as stringent border protection is vital for New Zealand’s elimination strategy, Skegg said.

He said he has heard that people have declined tests and some of the contracting companies declined to implement testing.

      • I think the correlation is well documented, and is in fact not even disputed by alarmists. They continue to argue for CO2 as the primary driver though, when in fact the CO2 changes are a response to the primary driver which is solar fluctuations and associated cosmic rays fluxes. Some in the CO2 driver camp even admit that there needs to be secondary feedbacks to make the CO2 forcing work. However, these are theoretical at best or actually feedback in a negative sense. The issue is that climate change is very complicated and to find the single primary driver is very very difficult. The models are crap.

  32. Irish newspaper slams New Zealand’s alert level change
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2020/08/irish-newspaper-slams-new-zealand-s-alert-level-change.html

An Irish newspaper has slammed the New Zealand government’s decision to move up the alert levels, saying it will be fatal for the economy.

“So, on the basis of four members of the one family contracting the disease, an entire city of 1.6 million people was placed back in lockdown. Is this not madness?” The Irish Times reporter Eoin Burke-Kennedy said.

Burke-Kennedy agreed with New Zealand’s policies around testing and contact tracing and supported Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s press conference communications. But he rubbished the recent change in alert levels saying it was a “recipe for economic disaster.”

Burke-Kennedy suggested that following New Zealand’s lead on lockdowns would turn Ireland’s recession into a depression and trigger a higher number of suicides.

New Zealand and Ireland have similar population sizes – 4.8 million and 4.9 million. But the highest daily cases number only reached 89, whereas in Ireland they were hitting more than 800 per day.
