  1. I unfortunately watched the performance of the day for a short while on Prime news last night. I am certain she (ptpm) thinks we are all incredibly stupid. The tone of her voice and the way she enunciates is something else, it is like she is speaking to the mentally impaired. I really do hate this col and the woman who is supposedly leading it, although she reads from a script so that does prove its not her that is in charge. She needs someone to write it all out for her. The difference between her ability and David Seymour is so remarkable. He is very articulate, intelligent and speaks with no notes. Constantly I am amazed people cannot see through her, I am sure Its only fear, as she did tell us 80,000 would die from the virus and has done so much to keep that alive in our thoughts. I do think/hope people are turning. After another three years of this bitch the whole population will be hopeful the euthanasia bill passed.

    • David Seymour came out saying ” I have not been spoken to like that since I was ….. kindergarten” ( Apologies to David, I have forgotten the name of the kindergarten you gave )

3yrs of kindy trips are not put to waste.
Cost the poor bloody taxpayer a bloody fortune to send her back to kindy!

  2. I can personally attest to the poster; my old man was a Labour supporter until his dying breath. He was brought up poor, he brought his children up poor and he died a pauper.

You could give him money, even considerable money, and he’d squander it. He could have a reasonably good income, and he’d squander it. He thought and breathed poor.

I and my siblings have never voted Labour (or for the Loonytunes party) and we lifted ourselves out of poverty. We saw, firsthand, the empty platitudes from Left-wing politicians and their cronies. Their thinking, policies and actions are ultimately designed to keep the poor poor – whilst pretending to sound genuine.

  3. Masks on public transport on monday, on the 18/10/20 it’ll be masks if you come out of your house, socialists just can’t help themselves, the old saying “give them an inch and they’ll take a mile ” was custom penned for socialists like Ardern, she craves power and adulation and its the reason she speaks in the manner she does, like your lovely old granny who’s trying to help you with one of lifes roadblocks.
Ardern sincerely believes we are children that need her divine guidance on a daily basis.

          • The way they do projects in NZ is so pathetic .
I see the Mt Eden Railway station is closed for 4 years.
            That is scheduled.
It will end up more than half a decade.
Look at Transmission gully – due to open March 2020 now on the never never.

This will discourage people from using public transport as a large hub of dwellings have been built up around there.
Personally I think busses are better for Auckland .
They can shift routes 10 years later as passenger movements change.
            Trains and trams cannot.

These long periods of building with 40 hour weeks are pathetic in NZ
Back in the 2000’s there was work at Greenlane to add one lane.
It took 3+ years and businesses in Great south Road were crippled for three years but expected to pay full rates.
            RSoles
Downtown Auckland is one long slow slog of Sloooow building projects.

On the Akl Southern motorway south of Manurewa they have been fluffing about for at least 5 years to add one lane.
            It is pathetic.

Personally I don’t have a problem with masks on public transport . It is subsidised heavily by ratepayers . Quid pro quo.
The concern is that is a gateway drug to power of the Wellington Wankers.

            9

            • Southern motorway is a friggin disgrace, over 5 years to add a extra lane on what is probably Aucklands most important road link, every day I see the stupid rock apes standing around looking up Tinder on their phones instead of fixing the road

              0

    • This is another example of the stupidity of this Govt. They came out a few weeks ago telling everyone to stock up on masks. They have extended the restrictions a few days to get the out break “under control” but then they say it is not compulsory to wear masks until the restrictions are lowered a bit. How logical is that ??

BTW. Remember the discussion about wearing burkas into a bank (ie. it is not allowed). Do the banks allow people to wear a mask into their bank ? Not much different to a burka in terms of how much of your face can be seen.

  4. Now I have that off my chest, good morning YSB bloggers 🙂

See you over at Kiwiblog posting as Doctor Sigmund Freud (Te Rauparaha has been banned there).

    • Te – I too was banned for a month for suggesting Gaylord had gone fishing for something tasty and was told not to bring family into politics so when Jethro introduced his partner at the Labour conference he became political. Still banned despite time being up, so disappointed that Kiwiblog has deteriorated as it it is a good source of information and debate.

  6. Jacinda didn’t do well on Mike Hosking.

    Impressions:
    – Mike rattles her
    – Mike does not respect her (I think he needs to dial that back a notch or two)
    – Jacinda isn’t across anything other than Covid or she’s lying and covering up
    – she bald-faced, straight up lied about the illegal lockdown judgement

    We’re in trouble.

Politics has transitioned into a religion where blind unquestioning faith in a total charlaton is going to destroy NZ.

    27

    • She doesn’t seem to have any idea of what her ministers are doing. I suspect there will be a lot of foot stamping and please explains. I have no problem with Mike’s attitude, he is tame compared to some overseas journalists I have heard.

      22

      0

    • R.O.L Mike definitely does not need to dial back on the lack of respect. I have more respect for the hedgehogs that visit to eat the cats food than I would ever have for her. In three short years she has bought this country to its knees. She does not deserve any respect from anyone. (sorry about the rant but to be honest she drives me to the point of anger and it takes a lot to do that)

      • Hi, I have a complete no see, no hear, policy. I don’t watch TV and mute the radio when she comes on ( except when Hosking grills her, and even them that can be too much). I cant afford a new TV and throwing bricks is hard on the hand. I am happy to listen to Shaw, Peters and even Porno Jones, but she creates a fight or flight reflex in me. Another one in the same category is Fuckface Hipkins. And as for Andrew (Hug a Crim) Little…..

        18

      • I have never in my life experienced the feelings of anger and revulsion about a politician that I do when Jacinda Ardern comes on the TV with her ridiculous tilty head and perennial frowny face.
(And don’t even get me started on her favourite word “Jepradize”!)
I can’t watch the news either- I Just turn it off.
There are lots of us it seems- . A ‘Silent Majority’ of New Zealanders who detest the woman and her idealogy.
I wasn’t exactly a fan of Helen Clark either but I’d just about sell my soul to go back ten years and live in that New Zealand again- At least people could go to work and go about enjoying their daily lives…
What the hell has happened to our once great little Country?

        17

        0

        • So the question – the big question CapOne. Is this. Are you a bell whether for the vast silent majority in the community who are feeling similar levels of revulsion?

Are we going to see a Brexit style ballot box revolution in rejection of the manipulative political classes and the media lackeys?

          Or

Are you and I just completely out of touch and are representative of a small hardcore of hate-filled reactionaries who are failing to see the obvious truth of the brave New World that is creeping up on us? Is YSB just a basement where society’s misfits can reinforce each others delusions and prejudices in an echo chamber?

It’s such an interesting time to be in the middle of such a crossroads for a nation. I know the stakes are incredibly high – but while I don’t want us to become Venezuela under Jacinda – I am fascinated by watching my fellow citizens sleep walk towards disaster.

    • Another bit of BS reporting from the MSM.

      https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/judith-collins-trusts-jacinda-ardern-made-right-decision-based-expert-medical-advice

When Hodsking asked Judith Collins about this she said no –it is a case of having to “trust” or accept it because the Opposition are not getting briefed or given information to decide if it is the right thing or not.
So the media are twisting it all as usual.

He is also caught the PM out again lying about about the briefings given to National’s Dr Reti . Ardern says there is a good on going discussion. Collins says as of 5.30 last night Dr Reti had not heard anything recently. So that reinforces why Hosking has to keep the heat on.

    • Pity Hoskins didn’t point out that the drudges were not asked for an opinion on if the lock down was reasonable just if it was legal which it wasn’t, time for our Politicized judiciary to do their job and stick to the Law and keep their opinions to themselves – a Herculean task for lefties.

  7. Another innocent black man shot.

“Online court records indicate Kenosha County prosecutors charged Blake on July 6 with third-degree sexual assault, trespassing and disorderly conduct in connection with domestic abuse. An arrest warrant was issued for Blake the following day.”

    https://www.foxnews.com/us/kenosha-car-dealership-riot-protest

USA is descending into chaos because criminals don’t like getting shot.

THis is not to condone unnessary shootings, but it would help if criminals actually didn’t resist arrest.

    15

    0

    • The basic underlying problem is criminals don’t consider their actions bad. In their minds, their actions are justified and the police (or whomever) are just picking on them.

This is the fundamental reason rehabilitation rates are so crap – the prisoners just mouth that they’re remorseful etc when they don’t actually mean it because they don’t consider what they did was wrong.

This is why people like Che Guevara consider themselves ‘good’ even though they commit mass murder and so forth.

Al Capone considered himself ‘a man for the working man’, and he also gave lots of money to children’s charities. He genuinely thought he was a good man.

You’ll find the same attitude with Blake.

I don’t pretend to know what the solution is but I do know giving them hugs does not work either.

      • To be fair the US Govt banned alcohol for 14 years
A completely idiotic move given it was repealed after crime went up massively as a direct result of bad law.
It made criminals out of ordinary folks.
Many public servants were compromised as a result of turning a blind eye.

To get a perspective, think about your emotional reaction to banning guns in NZ
Capone was providing a public service that the govt neglected !!!
One is not forced to purchase or consume alcohol nor marry /shack up with an alcoholic.
        Leave people to make choices.
Just as lock downs/’Home D for everyone’ is stupid here it was equally stupid in the US to appease a bunch of Karen’s who had just been given The Vote.

    • A slightly longer version, as it shows the police “kindly” following the guy around the front of the car, then to the door.

I am sure he was totally ignoring police demands, and warnings.
Would you believe he was totally deaf? and no peripheral vision?
What would you think when the guy opens the door, and reaches in?
Was it a “self sacrifice” to create more trouble?
      Suicide by cop?
      Was he high?
      Arrogance?

12 seconds of video of the 17 sec clip.

Leveraged by others, to destroy; supposedly to gain another empowering but even more imprisoning ideology.

It is not only the riots, but the judiciary system, the judges that do not follow the law, but take in ‘feelz’, and this encourages this aspect of lawlessness.

Defund the police, will soon be, what police? as they many are retiring.

I am hoping there is a city there that will hand everything over to “social justice” warriors, to be the law.
A whiff of that is still playing out in Portland,
A great job being done by journalists like Andrew Ngo, and others, and I fear it is even worse than being a war reporter.
The problem is the dancing on a pin, doubling down by those leftist ideologues, and the loss of reasoning by many.

Decision time will be early November.

Our October decision time is not as stark, yet, and far too much money swilling around, with more promises for the gullible.

I did wonder where his “inclusive” partner had gotten to, during the brawl.

I did think it would have just been better to have swiped the keys out, and then kept the door shut, until reinforcements came.
I do know that some vechicles are reset for a push-button start.

The point becomes, should one obey direction by a police officer, and what should the police officer do, and up to what point should he, if anything if ignored?

Who should be paying the insurance premiums?
        How essential is enforcement?
A social justice warrior will help make the payments? out of your pocket?

  8. National promise $200m for Napier – Taupo road.

National is pledging $200 million to fix a State Highway 5, which has been labelled a “death trap”.
    https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/national-pledging-200-million-fix-state-highway-labelled-death-trap?auto=6183943529001

There have been eight fatal cashes on the state highway between Napier and Taupo in the past year, and more than 300 accidents since 2014.

Local truck driver Tony Alexander, who’s campaigned for safety improvements to the road, has welcomed the proposal.

“Having some money thrown into some infrastructure on this road, it may make it a little bit more forgiving and, therefore, save some lives,” he said.

    • With the exception of patches of tar bleed that can be dangerous on the many sharp corners in the rain, the Napier-Taupo highway is fine, so long as you don’t drive too fast.

      • Late last year we were coming home from HB and the Napier/Taupo was closed due to a death of a motorcyclist. We had to drive over The Gentle Annie and come back to the Waikato through Taihape, a huge loop. Took us 9 hours to get home. The NT has been shut due to several more deaths since then.

  9. Hospitality, retail sectors ‘devastated’ by Auckland’s COVID-19 lockdown extension
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2020/08/hospitality-retail-sectors-devastated-by-auckland-s-covid-19-lockdown-extension.html

“We are so confused as to why there is no targeted support.”

Retail is struggling too with Retail NZ chief executive Greg Harford saying there is “significant pain”.

“Nationally sales are down about 40 percent but in Auckland it;s down about 80 percent”.

He says 20 percent of the association’s members are not confident they will last the year.

Harford is backing calls for the Government to step in and provide more help.

“We do think it’s important for the Government to start providing some additional support for retail and hospitality – there’s a lot of fixed costs that incur – rent, insurance, outgoings – we think that is something that needs to be looked at, including an extension of the rent subsidy.”

The Government has remained tight lipped on targeted support but has extended the wage subsidy by an additional two weeks – costing around $510 million.

The many, many more numerous victims of Islamic terror and bloodshed around the western world are never allowed to vent their feelings on television or in the news media. I don’t have the same attitude towards “Freedom Fighters”, but those that senselessly slaughter unarmed women and children have no excuse. ( of course this then raises the vexing question of bombing cities.. buts that’s another debate… ). Terrorists know that western civilisation won’t shoot them, so they committ atrocities at will, and then meekly surrender, knowing they will be well looked after for the next 20 or so years. A bit more of a shoot on site would maybe make some of them think twice.

    • Posted last night.
When will the unquestioned police, and the easy political system be charged & sentenced for granting a fire arms licence that ok’d arming Brenton Tarrant to complete his goal?

Why the fear of Brenton Tarrant’s political views as probably portrayed in his manifesto?
The talk of starting race wars, in NZ is laughable.
Brenton Tarrant traveled up to Pakistan, and possibly Afghanistan, and enjoyed his stay with those peoples.
He traveled into North Korea, and seem to enjoy his time there by all accounts, noting that access would have been through the Peoples Republic of China.
      .
visiting the Balkans, Western Europe, Pakistan, Turkey and, even, North Korea. ……
[+] France, Portugal, ….. Iceland, Poland, New Zealand, Argentina and Ukraine…. Hungary, [Bulgaria], Bosnia, Montengreo, Croatia, and Serbia …..
      .
In the 74-page manifesto allegedly published by the 28-year-old on social media, he acknowledges that those experiences were overwhelmingly positive.
“The varied cultures of the world greeted me with warmth and compassion, and I very much enjoyed nearly every moment I spent with them,”
      he wrote.

      https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2019/03/16/north-korea-pakistan-bulgaria-unusual-travels-new-zealand-shooting-suspect/
      .
As like many tourists he would have also enjoyed being out in nature, the eco-greenery, appreciating the beauty, and seeing first hand the pressures from people and cities.
      .
What I put in bold, that comes from a censored manifesto, that proves Tarrant is of the white supremacist ideology?
Though I do believe he is a twisted guy to do what he has done, but nor did the well studied experts say he was mentally insane.
      .
Often an “allah akbar” and every one agrees that comes from a mentally deranged person, that has caused some sort of problem to the general public. 🙁
However, every one can read what guides that “lone” / “known” wolf , that is based on the Talmud, Torah, & Bible, as he may do daily salat 5 times a day, concerned how the first 2 books, where the followers have angered God, and the 3rd book has been twisted and leads those followers astray. His spiritual advisors guiding him also read the never changing holy script.
Our experts also study this and many of them call these holy screeds benign (except kea & nasska, + 🙂 ) and should be protected.

So why can not we be able to read Tarrant’s manifesto, to probably just throw away in to the dust bin, but experts can keep on hitting the general public over the head, claiming they have the “knowledge” and know better.
They are as bad as the priests, of about 500 years ago, having only their church knowledge to interpret the language,
      .
I do wonder about the night journey Mohammad had on the Buraq (winged mule x donkey) and if it was related to a unicorn on the loose in NZ.

      • I hope I don’t get a visit from the police for this question as it is a genuine one, I seriously thought Muslims believed that Allah decided when you died to the minute, so if that is what they believe why are they so upset that their loved ones have passed? Is it due to a visitor to our shores (who should never have been given a gun license in the first place so grave incompetence there) shot their loved ones. I can understand that there would be hate for him if that is the reasons. Anything I have seen regarding Muslims beliefs admittedly on Netflix so could well be incorrect, in all the programmes I have seen death is the cause for great celebrations. I hope one of the contributors to this site can inform me. Thanks

        • Allah might know when you die.
Only the shaheed martyr in the process of dispatching an infidel or 2 is assured of atonement of all his sins, and goes to paradise.
The rest go to a form of purgatory, as the score of life is tallied up, and await until the uplifting ‘resurrection’ but it can be problematic for one who has any such doubt and can not answer the angels questions, so that it becomes a torment and torture in the grave, and so the punishments start.
If you can be sure of things, and the angels get honest answers, then it may be a sleep until resurrection time

Allah says in the Quran: “Everyone shall taste death. And only on the day of resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full.
And whoever is removed away from the fire and admitted to paradise, this person is indeed successful.
The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception.” (The Holy Qur’an:3:185)

And you are right, a good muslim is not suppose to reason or wonder why the death occurred.

The rest will have duties of continuing on in the faith, and doing what Mohammad guided them in sayings, deeds, and actions found in the koran, hadith & sira, so they can learn to be like the perfect man, Mohammad.

Realized I did not put the sarc. // on “perfect man”

As the koran says in that last line.
“The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception.”

The Qur’an openly states many times that Allah is the ‘best deceiver’.
              https://wikiislam.net/wiki/Allah_the_Best_Deceiver

So allah according to the koran, controls by deception and so creates fears.

  14. I’m a little confused. Did Ardern say yesterday that Auckland would be in Level 2 next Monday or did she say it would be reviewed again after the extra 4 days with the idea of going to Level 2. I thought it was the latter but the media are saying it was the former.
If the media are correct, which means the Government has already made it’s mind then why the extra 4 days ? What difference do they make.
Seems like a lot of spin.

    • But the extra 4 days,

wage subsidy, Collins said that should have been extended for the four extra days that the restrictions will be ongoing.

“Given that the wage subsidy is only being paid because in this time around Covid-19 has been allowed to come back into New Zealand, it is certainly at no fault of the hospitality sector or businesses in general, and it is particularly difficult time.”

She said that would have been the “kindest and most pragmatic” thing to do.

She said the wage subsidy was not sustainable in its current form, which was why the border was key to the country economically and for the public to have confidence.

      9

      • A bit more on that wage subsidy, not being extended for the extra 4 days.

Ardern;- when asked on Monday if the latest wage subsidy extension would be extended again to cover the extra four days of lockdown, ruled it out because changing the length was too complex.
“It is not a simple exercise to simply tack-on additional – it would require an entirely different process and regime,” Ardern said. “Our focus is on getting the money out the door quickly for everyone who’s already applied.”
        .
The National Party thinks that’s not fair and is calling for a four-day extension.
        .
“We’ve discussed it and have decided that it would be a much better move for the Government to extend the wage subsidy for those four days,” National Party leader Judith Collins said on Tuesday. …..
        .
……. National’s finance spokesperson Paul Goldsmith said extending the wage subsidy for the four days of extra lockdown would be “logical”.
        .
“If a Government says to businesses they cannot trade, they cannot do their job that they’re set up to do because of public health reasons, then there is a good argument for some continued Government support,” he said.
        .
…….. – we want to be getting out of this and concentrating on rebuilding and growing the economy,” he added. ……..
        .
…. But Goldsmith is not calling for cash grants for businesses.
        .
“No, we’re not at that stage yet.
But we are very much in the camp that you do need to continue to support businesses.
The wage subsidy seems to be the best way to do that in the first instance.”

  15. I’ve never been able to get a proper handle on Martin Martyn Wrongly Wrongson Bradbury.
At time he comes across as a full-blown leftard psychophant, and at others he has these extremely lucid, balanced moments of objectivity:

“Morrah’s job is to ask well researched, intelligent questions. Attacking him because some of us don’t like his answers says more about the people attacking him than the quality of his work.

And finally, for the online left activists, if you are referring to Bryce Edwards as a ‘right winger’ or Michael Morrah as a ‘biased journalist’, perhaps you need to have a cup of tea and a bit of a lie down.

Tribalism this feral isn’t helping anyone vote Labour or Green”

    • The last sentence you quoted is why Bradbury wrote what he did. It isn’t a case of being objective, it’s just that he sees it backfiring badly.

I’ve already know from reading Leftards on FaceBook that they consider any journalists asking questions of “Saints” Ardern and Bloomfield should be executed (murdered to use the actual word). This is the type of people Martyn Martin Bradbury surrounds himself with, and that type of language will put those in the centre off Leftardism.

“Does he believe in the right to life? …… ‘No.’”

“Where do rights come from? …… He says ‘Well, they don’t come from God.‘”

  19. Breakthrough Drug: Ivermectin Shows ‘Astounding’ Results Against Coronavirus

Reports Friday from multiple trials in the United States and abroad indicate a drug already approved by the FDA to treat parasitic infections is showing “astounding” results, and could represent a breakthrough in efforts to vanquishing the SARS-CoV-2 virus at the heart of the global pandemic.

The drug first emerged as a possible coronavirus therapeutic after a study to be published in next month’s Antiviral Research journal by researchers in Victoria, Australia showed the drug wiped out the virus in a test tube.

“It would mean we could go to work and not worry,” he said of the prospect of having an effective therapeutic medication. “You catch it, we treat you and we move on as a country.”

  20. A cut and paste from an overseas blog. Worth reading and thinking about.

“After nearly seven months there is still not one testing kit which has been approved by the FDA.

As far as PCR tests go they have proven unreliable in every testing procedure they’ve been put through.

    PCR
tests simply multiply the amount of antigens found in any given
specimen by a specified amount, although no regulation has been
formalised as to how much the samples should be multiplied.

No scientist or government body has isolated the COVID-19 ‘virus’ nor has anyone ever viewed the ‘strain’ under a microscope.

    Cases
around the world continue to rise according to an obscure website known
as Worldometer which has still escaped scrutiny by every government and
scientific community on Earth although they all use the Worldometer
website to report their daily COVID-19 numbers.

    The only reason
for a rise in positive cases is because of the falsities identified in
the testing kits themselves. The death rates have all declined, the
hospitalisations have all declined, and only the amount of new positive
cases remains a focus for MSM and government affiliates.

    Why?

To keep the plandemic in action, a lot of very wealthy people are making a lot of money right now.

In fact, these last 7 months have entailed the largest transfer of wealth the world has ever known.c19”

Ivermectin took off as a veterinary treatment for internal and external parasites. In fact it was, and may still be, the leading animal health product sold worldwide. With ivermectin’s research debts well and truly paid through veterinary purchases, Merck has literally given ivermectin away for human use.

Billions and billions of doses of ivermectin have been donated by the company over the past 30 years via the ‘Mectizan Donation Program’. This is used to treat parasites in humans to prevent diseases like river-blindness and elephantiasis. The names of these conditions are fairly self-explanatory, one makes you blind and the other makes you swell up till your limbs look like that of an elephant.

    • The confusion in the Biden camp, white supremacists like Richard B, Spencer (proven by leftists), on Team Biden.
Negroes can only be negro when voting Biden, and it just keeps going.
So much confusion, it is difficult to follow the convolutions, or to make head or tail of the story about Linda Sarsour.

1st ;- to have Linda Sarsour on a panel at the national convention.
[the one that gives the ISIS salute of 1 finger up, a sort of “seig heil”.]

2nd ;- “Biden’s campaign responded by denouncing and distancing itself from the Palestinian-American organiser.”

3rd ;- Biden’s “Top foreign policy adviser Tony Blinken;- acknowledged the “hurt and disappointment” that the comments against Sarsour caused.
“Historically, Republicans and Democrats have been quick to dismiss Muslim, Arab-American and especially Palestinian-American voices, and I want to reiterate on behalf of all of us our support for your communities,”

4th ;- not enough;- “Biden aides’ remarks during the meeting are not enough, and the apology to Sarsour should be issued publicly.
“A private apology, where Linda Sarsour was not even present, simply does not suffice for a very public attack on her and our community,” Zahr, who was not on the call on Sunday, told MEE.
“They allowed this to simmer for days.
And now, if they expect our community to simply accept this backroom stuff,
I’m afraid they will be unpleasantly surprised.
Apologies and retractions must occur in the same forum where the egregious acts occurred.
Linda Sarsour was not maligned in a private phone call.
      She was condemned publicly.”

5th ;- After the above;- a Biden adviser, Sanders told CNN’s Jake Tapper that the campaign rejects Sarsour’s views.
“We met to affirm Vice President Biden’s unshakeable commitment to working with Arab, Palestinian, and Muslim Americans and to standing up against anti-Muslim prejudice, and to make clear that we regretted any hurt that was caused to these communities,” Sanders said according to Tapper.
“We continue to reject the views that Linda Sarsour has expressed.”
      https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/linda-sarsour-joe-biden-apology-muslim-vote

Now what is Joe Biden, the man himself is going to say? 😉
Sadly he can not get a sniff of Sarsour’s hair under that hijab, though that would perk him up.

  22. State paid $3k a week for ‘uninhabitable’ houses

A former Harcourts property manager in South Auckland has blown the whistle on an emergency housing scheme where a group of landlords were paid up to $3000 a week by the taxpayer for “marginal to uninhabitable” private rentals.

When the landlords ran out of houses they turned to real estate agents who procured vacant properties – allegedly without the consent of the people who actually owned them.

The Ministry of Social Development has admitted the scheme made the rental crisis worse – as people took rental properties off the market and used them instead to rent out to MSD to earn thousands more.

    https://www.newsroom.co.nz/landlords-paid-3k-a-week-by-government?fbclid=IwAR0-8sRpozqnNRxFZpcTBpn6VpVnaVYH32jwr2cYGgbyQTq8HPyCGYAikhA

Minister of Social Development Carmel Sepuloni declined an interview request on the grounds she was still waiting for a briefing on it.

When Newsroom asked Sepuloni about the scheme on August 10 she also appeared to have no knowledge of it. We received a similar response when an earlier query was made to her office, in June.

Last week her office provided a 52-word statement, two days after she was reminded of the issue.

this is an appalling rip off by Harcourts and others.
Certainly needs some intense scruitiny by some legal begals or police or fraud outfit.

  24. Naaska,
    for your urgent attention.

An influential head of an ultraconservative US evangelical college has reportedly resigned amid incredible allegations about his sex life.

Jerry Falwell Jr – who Donald Trump called “one of the most respected religious leaders in the US” after securing his endorsement – was already on leave after posting a photo of himself with trousers unzipped on Instagram.

Now, a former pool boy has revealed he had an affair with Mr Falwell’s wife Becki, and that Mr Falwell liked to watch while they were having sex.

    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=12359461

In the photo, Mr Falwell is holding a cup of dark liquid and has one arm around a woman whose shorts are also unzipped. In a radio interview soon afterwards, Mr Falwell said the woman was his wife’s assistant.

He said the pair were at a costume party and “it was just in good fun,” but added he should never have posted the photo and said, “I’ve apologised to everybody and I promised my kids I’m going to try to be a good boy from here on out.”

‘Massive’ fire on Wellington’s Abel Smith Street
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2020/08/massive-fire-on-wellington-s-abel-smith-street.html

Firefighters are battling to put out the blaze with smoke rising over the Wellington CBD.

A Newshub cameraman said he could smell the smoke from Parliament.

The house at 128 Abel Smith Street has had an interesting history since it was constructed in 1898.

It was first used as a home, then a private hospital, a society headquarters and is now a community centre and the Radical Social Centre and Community Whare.

The house was also raided by armed police in October 2007 as part of the Urewera Raids.

      • You’re a font of knowledge Maggy! 🙂

How’s Duckduck or has she moved on to greener pastures with her latest love?

        • Duckduck took off a few weeks back with a Mate… I haven’t seen her since , but neighbour reckoned Duckduck flew low over her head when she was exercising her dog on Kaiti Beach. (Duckduck would have recognised the dog…)… so she is probably still in the district.

Mother mallard has managed to raise her 5 ducklings into ugly juveniles…. they’ve got little wings and are feathering up well… we’re hoping we’ll be rid of them in a month or so…

PM pushes back on description of Chris Hipkins as ‘part-time’ Health Minister

The Prime Minister has pushed back on National leader Judith Collins’ description of Chris Hipkins as an “essentially part-time” Health Minister.

“I think it does a disservice to describe a minister who is working incredibly hard to describe him as anything but hard working and with New Zealand’s best interest at heart,” Jacinda Ardern told media today.

  27. Health Select Committee to reconvene as National, New Zealand First call for scrutiny over COVID-19 response
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2020/08/health-select-committee-to-reconvene-as-national-new-zealand-first-call-for-scrutiny-over-covid-19-response.html

Health Select Committee chair Louisa Wall told Newshub she is “happy to reconvene” the committee next Wednesday, and will invite Health Minister Chris Hipkins and Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield to appear.

“I have always considered this was a matter for the committee to decide. However, there wasn’t previously a majority who wanted the select committee to resume,” Wall, a Labour MP, added.

National’s health spokesperson Dr Shane Reti has written to Wall twice now to request the committee convene and call on the Director-General of Health and Health Minister to appear.

  29. Covid 19 coronavirus: Virus can survive on frozen meat and fish for up to three weeks, study shows

Covid-19 can survive on frozen meat and fish for up to three weeks, a study has found, as scientists warn that contaminated food may cause outbreaks.

Individual pieces of salmon, chicken and pork from supermarkets in Singapore were sliced into cubes then a sample of the virus was added to them.

The meat and fish was stored in conditions which simulate those used to transport food between countries – 4C (standard refrigeration temperature) and minus 20C (standard freezing temperature).

Scientists found that infectious Covid-19 was still present on the samples after 21 days.

  30. Tauranga city council have voted 6-4 to create a Maori Ward.
Applause and haka erupted from the public gallery as Tauranga City Council voted to establish a Maori Ward for the 2022 local government election.

Councillor Jako Abrie started the debate by showing a slide show of every Tauranga City Councillor since its establishment to illustrate his point there was a representation issue.

Not one was of Maori descent, mostly older white males, and it was revealed it had been 28 years, before the City council was established, since Tauranga had a Maori councillor.

He moved the motion to establish Maori wards and said councils, as representatives of the Crown, had a right to ensure Maori were at the voting table.
    https://www.sunlive.co.nz/news/250537-maori-wards-pass-vote-tauranga.html

Of course he is wrong right from the start. The council doesn’t represent the crowmn it represents the ratepayers and the population that goes with thoise ratepyers.
Not one word was spoken of this during the election. Jako is maori (well part as they all are).
It will not succeed. Western Bay it got voted down and same for whakatane. EBOP managed to get away with it.

    • I agree, the Local Council does not represent the Crown and should be representing ratepayers. The point seems sometimes lost on Council staff in my reading of reports.

That Maori have either not stood for Councils, or not been elected in the past, cannot be a responsibility of ratepayers generally nor of Councillors who have been elected. I vote on the merits of the individual and my opinion of how they will perform the role of representation. It is a serious job and should be taken as such. I do not agree wards by race are appropriate and do not see the treaty or the Crown having any part of local council representation.

And if Parliament stopped imposing legislative and regulatory burdens on local councils, and removed those in place now, we would all be better off leaving councils opportunity to focus on the key local infrastructural issues currently often neglected or relegated below vanity projects.

It’s a great worry Australians are accepting this ‘rise of authoritarianism’

There are politicians, bureaucrats, and even police stepping over them mark and forgetting the basic freedoms, rights and responsibilities which should apply to us all, according to Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“Just have a look at what is happening with borders,” Mr Kenny said.
