And a very good morning to you ma’am. It’s foggy in the Central Waikato as I speak, so NIWA’s ‘drought’ has reappeared.

No chance of the govt stopping anything about Matariki, or indeed anything else, since ‘All hat no horse’ luxflakes hasn’t got the courage of his convictions.

Despite that (And the ‘drought’) have a great day, keep safe and DLTBGYD.

  4. Here’s a truly heart warming story about the bond formed between a little 5-year-old girl and some construction workers that will make you believe that we all can make a difference when we give a child the gift of our time.

A young family moved into a house, next to a vacant lot. One day, a Construction crew turned up to start building a house on the empty lot. The young family’s 5-year-old daughter naturally took an interest in all the activity going on next door and spent much of each day observing the workers.

Eventually the construction crew, all of them “diamonds-in-the-rough” more or less, adopted her as a kind of project mascot.

They chatted with her, let her sit with them while they had tea and lunchbreaks, and gave her little jobs to do here and there to make her feel important.

At the end of the first week, they even presented her with a pay envelope containing ten dollars. The little girl took this home to her mother who suggested that she takes her ten dollars “pay” she’d received to the bank the next day to start a savings account.

When the girl and her mum got to the bank, the teller was equally impressed and asked the little girl how she had come by her very own pay envelope at such a young age.

The little girl proudly replied, “I worked last week with a real
construction crew building the new house next door to us.” “Oh my goodness gracious,” said the teller, “and will you be working on the house again this week, too?”

The little girl replied, “I will be, if those pricks at Bunnings ever deliver the fuckin’ timber…”

  5. Māori law expert says tikanga progress in the judicial system is unstoppable

Māori law and tikanga expert Mamari Stephens says judges are looking at the application of ture-tikanga, or Māori law, in cases before them.

That trend is set to gather momentum from next year when the general principles and practices of tikanga Māori become a compulsory subject in law studies.

“There’s got to be some kind of understanding that tīkanga Māori is its own system and its own kind of relational basis. So you can’t just apply it willy-nilly to get people off stuff. There’s got to be some integrity and that’s going to take time to work out what integrity looks like,” Stephens says.

She says like the common law it will take decades for the two systems to fuse together into Aotearoa-New Zealand law – but that’s how it should be.

  6. https://www.1news.co.nz/2024/06/17/central-state-highway-blocked-after-truck-rolls-south-of-taihape/
State Highway 1 just south of Taihape is blocked after a truck and trailer rolled earlier this morning.

Police said a heavy truck and trailer unit overturned on the highway around 5am.

“There are no injuries but the highway will remain closed for some time until the truck and trailer is removed,” a police spokesperson said.

New Zealand Transport Agency advised motorists to delay their journey or avoid the area.

“There is no detour available, however SH4 could be considered as an alternate route,” it said.

The next update was expected later this morning.

23 comments so far and mostly calling horseshit on Fruity farrar
Each time with valid, reasoned counter arguments vs the emotional giggly girly-man drivel from farrar.
      —————

This gentleman giving Fruity a succinct synopsis

      David Campbell said…
“Read the NYT article on the leaked peace accord in 2022 and its obvious that Russia don’t want the whole country. They asked the Crimea be Russian. Donetsk and Lugansk be independent states and Ukraine be neutral. All agreed by to by Ukraine but shut down by the visit of Boris Johnson. It’s the war machine in the west that keeps that war going.”

I guess fruity farrar’s masters don’t pay him/her/them to read the comments.

          • Fruity farrar is a bit like the one-eighth maori folk.
They only live for the (minority) maori bit.

farrar is a little bit of jew as he spelt out years ago, but that is his dominant focus.
So much so that he would be a NY Jew Demonrat voter in the US
One needs to understand this when he spouts anything.
His TDS is fully on board with this status.
He is very dumb about realpolitik and totally naïve about US politics.
He is both low IQ and Low EQ.
He does/says what he is told.
Possibly handed whole written scripts to publish on his blog.

I would pick there are more than 10 AIPAC operatives in ao tear zooland.
Key will have one who may be the same as farrar’s .
Key was groomed in the US late 1990s before coming back here.
I have understood there was something like this in the US for over a decade,
It was good to have it spelt out, clearly.
            Thx Beorn.

People like Obama and farrar are low IQ.
They are useful idiots that can spiel out the approved lines .
See the way farrar orbited Key in the period. 2008 to 2016.

  9. The irony here
    ————————-
The Christchurch Anglican Synod, the diocese’s governing body, will consider the future of the project at a special general meeting this weekend, including a downsized option.

The quake-damaged cathedral’s restoration has been under threat since costs soared to $248m, including a forecast $114m shortfall. The initial total was $103m.

In April, Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement Ltd (CCRL), the charitable company formed to run the project for the Anglican church, said the building could be mothballed if another $30m could not be found by August. CCRL chair Mark Stewart described it as “an incredibly challenging position”.
    —————————-

The earthquake(s) that damaged this were, and are defined as, “an Act of God”
Surely their god was sending a message that the Cathedral – made of glass, wood, stone and mortar by mere mortals, on shaky ground – had reached the end of its life.

Should these Anglican church people be excommunicated for ignoring the wishes of their god, or was it the act of another god from the heathens’ brigade?
    Sinners, repent !!

  14. Finally found it.
Was looking for this for ages.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Out_(magazine)
Time Out was first published in 1968 as a London listings magazine by Tony Elliott,
who used his birthday money to produce a one-sheet pamphlet,[6] with Bob Harris as co-editor.[7]

The first product was titled Where It’s At, before being inspired by Dave Brubeck’s album Time Out.[8]

Time Out began as an alternative magazine alongside other members of the underground press in the UK, but by 1980 it had abandoned its …
…….original collective decision-making structure and its commitment to equal pay for all its workers,
leading to a strike and the foundation of a competing magazine, City Limits, by former staffers.
By now its former radicalism has all but vanished
    ———————-
Interesting for those who know of it.
Time Out was a magazine in London you could purchase weekly to see what was on where.
    With 8 Million people at the time there was a lot going on with local bands in pubs, big concerts, plays and so on ;
all the info in one place.
    a good product.
Still going as online and free- presumably from advertising revenue only.

So in (up to ) 1980 the staff were all paid the same. AFAIR it Was GBP 8000 each per annum in 1980.
Whether editor, journalists, cleaner, junior, whatever.
It was true, heavenly equality with free water and the ability to ride unicorns at lunchtime.
    It was the communist ideal.

Then Orwell’s Animal Farm kicked in.

  16. English born , US-favoured Chappie who claims Scottish roots upsets the fans in Germany.
Dont go full retard on the Germans, Rodney !

    ———————————-
    RT
Elderly UK pop icon Rod Stewart has apparently met with fan backlash at a concert in Germany for making a public display of his support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.

The 79-year-old Stewart, renowned for such hits as ‘Maggie May’ and ‘Da Ya Think I’m Sexy’, has been proclaiming his backing for Kiev since the crisis in Eastern Europe began in February 2022.
However, the theme didn’t go over well at a sold-out performance on Friday in Leipzig, where concert-goers booed when a giant image of Vladimir Zelensky was shown behind Stewart as he sang “Rhythm of My Heart” as a tribute to Kiev.

A clip posted on social media showed fans jeering and whistling as the picture of Zelensky came on the screen.
Germany’s Tag 24 news outlet reported that Stewart dedicated the song to the Ukrainian people and military, then shouted a profane insult against Russian President Vladimir Putin before beginning to sing.
He donned the Ukrainian colors, including a yellow shirt and a jacket with blue sequins.
The massive slideshow behind him also included images of the Ukrainian flag and the country’s troops.

  18. Govt proposes allowing ‘granny flats’ builds without resource consent
    https://www.1news.co.nz/2024/06/17/govt-proposes-allowing-granny-flats-builds-without-resource-consent/

The move – proposed in a new discussion document open to submissions today – would mean law changes to make it easier to build structures of up to 60 square metres.

It proposes that those dwellings can be built in rural and residential zones without a building or resource consent, so long as they meet certain criteria, aimed at reducing the risk of structural failure, fire and its spread, weather tightness failure and insanitary conditions.

It would require the dwelling to be built by “trusted workers”, to a “simple straightforward design”, and be notified to councils.

He said granny flats were a great option for seniors but they were also “increasingly popular” with other families.

    9

    0

      • It’s not huge at 60 sq/m which equates with about 650 sq/ft but certainly enough for a couple & possibly a child. I have some sympathy for those who point out that nowadays anything smaller than 150sq/m with a couple of garages is considered sub standard by new home buyers.

        5

        0

    • 60 metres is quite big.
Could get a decent 2 bedroom from that with smart use of space.
I would think 45 to 50 metres better. 60 metres takes up a bit of room.
      Allows for multigenerational living
With the way Councils behave (as total pricks) they will ferret away to throw a spanner in the works .

      The concern is –
….Final policy decisions would be made later this year, with the legislative changes expected to be in place from mid-2025….

So this is dragging the feet again and in reality these things are announcements of announcements.
      ..in the future.

The important thing is to own your own home. Then worry about how spacious it is.

  19. The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment is seeking feedback on a Government proposal which would allow property owners to build granny flats without consents.

Many district plans already allow granny flats without resource consent, but there’s a lack of consistency and different standards across the country.

A discussion document released on Monday suggests small, self-contained and detached houses meeting certain criteria should be able to be built without application.

To avoid needing a consent a flat would need to be smaller than 60 square meters, one story, and cover less than 70% of the site area in residential zones, with appropriate setbacks.

Granny flats will be able to include plumbing, cooking and sleeping facilities, and more safeguards will be needed to manage risks associated with these features.

  20. Our erstwhile Ministeress of Finance doesn’t like the low income earners.
Giving with one hand, and taking with the other

How someone earning $42,900 could have a marginal tax rate of 165.6%

The RIS relating to the increase in the In-Work Tax Credit to $25 per week highlights an issue which I actually raised with the Minister of Finance in the Budget Lockup, and that’s that is the interaction of abatements and low thresholds. Currently, the family income threshold for those receiving Working for Families’ tax credits (WFF) is $42,700. This threshold has not been increased since 1st July 2018. Above that threshold WFF are abated at a rate of $0.27 on the dollar. As I told the Minister of Finance, this means that people on very modest incomes are on a higher effective marginal tax rate than her. That did not go down well, to be honest.

As the RIS shows the effect of the abatement regime for the 170,000 families benefiting from the package is that though the Government might talk about an increase of $25 per week, on average the net amount received will be $16.97 per week. The difference is the the effect of abatement.

The RIS also notes that unless something is changed the minimum family tax credit threshold, which is increased annually, will soon overlap the threshold at which WFF abatement starts. On present settings this expected to happen on 1st April 2027. As the RIS notes this will result in WFF customers “facing effective marginal tax rates of well over 100%.”

How someone earning $42,900 could have a marginal tax rate of 165.6%

  22. Spotted this while looking for Greenpeace success stories.

Greenpeace brought solar power to Dharnai, India, in 2014, constructing a renewable micro-grid that would supposedly make the tiny village “energy independent” and be a model for the rest of the country. Consumers in the West were regaled with stories of this novel concept at the time. Now, the solar micro-grid is defunct and being used as a cattle shed. The Dharnai project is one of many failed attempts by groups, like Greenpeace, to force renewable energy on the developing world. Similar projects failed in Africa. The batteries the systems require wear out and are not repaired because the developing world does not have the expertise to repair it. With no maintenance and a high tariff for the electricity, Dharnai lost trust in the solar project and switched to thermal power (fueled by coal) as soon as it became available on the grid beginning in 2016.
