The next problem to solve is the charging. because unless you have a D-Series Loco parked in your back yard, or a fleet of them on a siding next to charging bays, the peak demand will never be met by the power infrastructure.
The top peak demand of charging just 3 at one time would plunge most small towns into darkness.
While the top of the line Teslas and others “can” be charged to 100% in 10 minutes, the reality is it takes closer to an hour to get 80%, at best, provided you can find a public charger of the right rating. The bottleneck is the charging rate, and power infrastructure.
Rather like installing an automated kitchen in a restaurant that can cook 700 restaurant meals an hour. If your restaurant is in Waimate, you only have 8 tables, the 700 figure is purely academic.

BREAKING: We have just introduced a bill to allow instant infringement fees for shoplifters and improve New Zealanders’ ability to protect their property with stronger citizen’s arrest powers.
If you think crime pays, you’re in for a rude surprise.
People shoplift because they see it as low risk. Even if they get caught, there’s no immediate consequence. It can take weeks or months for a shoplifter to get to court, just to receive a slap on the wrist. Now, that changes. A Police constable will be able to issue a $500 infringement fee on the spot. It’s a wonder this wasn’t in place already.
We’re also making it more likely for shoplifters and criminals to be caught in the first place. You’ve probably seen videos of people stealing trollyloads of goods, sauntering out the front doors unimpeded. Security guards stand by, helpless, because the law doesn’t empower them to take action.
Under the coming change, a citizen’s arrest can be carried out for any Crimes Act offence and at any time of day. People shouldn’t put themselves in harm’s way, but equally, they shouldn’t be punished for standing up for their business or their community.
Of course we’ve also restored Three Strikes. We’ve introduced a new aggravating factor for offenders who target people working alone, and also for offences against people working at a business connected to the family home. And under Nicole McKee MP, the courts are finally moving again.

Counties Manukau Police say they carried out “an armed vehicle stop” at Howick Beach on Tuesday evening.
Just after 5pm on December 2, police say they received a report “that a carload of young males may have had a firearm in their possession”.
“Police units responded to the area, with the police Eagle helicopter providing support overhead.”
A Times’ reader who lives near Howick Beach said he could see six police cars and the Eagle helicopter in attendance.
Police say: “Armed staff approached the vehicle at the beach, taking five people into custody without incident.
“We can confirm a toy gun was located.
“Cannabis was located inside in the vehicle and a man is being dealt with by police in relation to this.
“Charges are likely in regards to this discovery,” police say.
They add that they were speaking with all those involved.
At 11.41am today, December 3, Counties Manukau Police say: “A 19-year-old man has been summonsed to appear in the Manukau District Court in January for the possession of cannabis.”
At 3pm today, Inspector Rod Honan, the Counties Manukau East Police Area Commander told the Times: “Police take any report of people possessing firearms in our community seriously.
