  1. Good morning all.

Ed: Concerning the meme: It’s creator should possibly have added ; ‘After removing the $7.00, you then charge the ‘cleaners; for the materials they used’ .

All very ‘fair’ (and ‘Democratic’) of course,…

        • That is such a waste of time for the Notionals to call a vote of No Confidence in Mallard.
This means they start the year off with a loss.
          All for petty point scoring.

They have had 3 months holiday to come up with a good idea.
          This is not one.
It wont change anything and shows the clowns chasing lost causes.

          Notional.
          W.O.F.T.
Will an early loss be an omen for the year?

          • Its true the Nats will more than likely lose, but I think the point is that it exposes Labour’s careless attitude to flushing taxpayer’s dollars down the toilet. All the Kiwis who are outraged they have to pay for the Duck’s legal defence will take note. It won’t convert the voters from Labour, but it’s another brick in the wall.

            • Agree Magoo. It will be on the news tonight and the semi braindeads who watch one and three will take note. Nats will get it up the bum from Mallard all year after this but its the right course of action. Mallards an outright cunt. Shine the light on him.Watch him squirm like the worm he is.

            • Yeah, and it puts his actions back in the public eye, after most folk forgetting about it over the hols. The Bish is going to have a bit of an uphill battle in question time this year, but good on him for taking one for the team.

            • I disagree.
              It is about handling optics.

They will lose and the bought$ and $paid$ for media filth will tell the ‘story’ in an unfavourable light (as they will be instructed) meaning a double loss.
This shows the naivety of the Gnats; which is on display enough already.

This payout is chicken feed compared to $50 million pre election to the media filth then post election Oct 2020 there is a further $25 million p.a. for 3 years ($75 mill) allocated in bribes to media filth.
This is $125 million in Govt bribes to a failing, unproductive – in fact, counterproductive, sector.

Going on about Winston Peter’s $158k for the next 13 years made no difference to his electoral results.
              The converted remain converted.
It is not another brick in the wall.
Notional are so far behind electorally they cannot see the Wall from where they are.

-What has been the spend on MIQ facilities …$600 million plus ?
Is it a good use of money?
-Which employers took Wage subsidy as a business subsidy and not pay it on to employees?
-How many of the foreigners are getting the $3100 refunded on application?

These are where the Gnats should be looking.

-Giving a new holiday in the middle of winter 3 weeks after Q Bday wknd when the cost will entirely be borne by employers is room for hounding.
              – Holding lying Bloomfailed’s feet to the fire for all his lies should be what an opposition does.
Don’t give me the crap about not attacking pubic servants. Bloomfailed has transgressed over into politics. Fair and square.
              Burn the lying bastard.

M.O.H. has been massively remiss and will remain so under that lying critter.
The nasties drove Grainne Moss out of town for nothing compared to what Bloomfailed has done.
Lying about vaccines. His whole history since his commencement in 2018 is failure.
              Measles and Meningitis.
Is 81 dead Samoan babies not enough for this bastard?
Things will remain a mess with Ashen B/fail at the lectern.

Harking back on last year is pitiful attempt at point scoring
2020 is a year the Gnats should move on from.

I was talking to my cousin in the weekend.
My uncle, her father, was very high up in the Notional Party.
Kiwi Keith used to attend their house for dinner.
She said it is ‘ a good thing Dad is not here to see Notional today’

    • Komata ,The CCP have perfected this scenario ,they often take a man to trial on fake charges then take him out the back and put a bullet in his head, but here’s the good commie bit they then charge his grieving family for the bullet,,wow that’s perfect socialism dont you agree ?

      • Revtech@0600

It’s certainly ‘socialism’ Jim, but not quite as Marx et al intended because, in true ‘Capitalist’ fashion, the amount paid for said bullet then goes into the Leader’s pocket, to never be seen again by the adoring masses.

And should said adoring masses ever ask about it’s whereabouts, then the cost of the bullet (after allowing for inflation and ‘ greed’) will be…

  2. Happy Birthday Ed, I hope you have a great day, and would like to take this opportunity of once again thanking you for the opportunity of being part of this great blog. The information provided by yourself and many others and opinions are stellar. Thank you, I hope you have a wonderful day. You can thank your lucky stars your big day is not 6th February or close enough to it that you have to pay koha to the local tribe for the fortune of being born on such an auspicious day//

Biden is stopping US military assistance as well despite the fact that he was responsible for the secret bombing and murder of hundreds of Yemeni civilians along with his Nobel peace prize winning crack smoking president , Barry Obama.

He goes into the shop & asks how much it is.

    “$100” says the assistant.

“That’s a bit steep, how come it’s so dear ??”

“Well its a tenner for the video & $90 for the Betamax recorder!”

The reason I am posting this is because I have to ask: When WE are accused here in NZ of ‘white privilege’, or ‘heterosexual privilege’, or ‘male privilege’ or ‘financial privilege’ or ‘Black Lives Matter’ ‘whatever privilege’, ARE WE IN FACT BEING ABUSED???

  6. Robertson teases Covid- focused budget;
    Pledges first home buyers support.
Finance Minister Grant Robertson made the announcement during a BNZ breakfast in Wellington, where he laid out his priorities for this May’s budget.
New figures reveal our net debt now is forecast to reduce to 36 5% of GDP 2034/2035 , Robertson said, representing about $60 billion less debt than before the 2020 Election.
“While these are only projections they show progress that we are making,” Robertson said of the new numbers.
    https://thespinoff.co.nz/politics/09-02-2021/live-updates-february-9-robertson-teases-covid-focused-2021-budget/
Well if people are like me it doesn’t paint a very good picture for my Children who are middle aged now and their children with their children that will still be paying this debt long after Grant Robertsons predictions , his predictions on our economy are now starting to prove him wrong with business now they can’t survive on turnover they have now.

  7. I see Golly G is bleating about an Air N.Z contractor doing work for the Saudis who she is accusing of causing a humanitarian crisis in Yemen. Predictably Greg Foran has folded like a house of cards basically apologising for poor judgement. Here comes another example of go woke go broke. I own shares in Air NZ they aren’t exactly stellar performers. By this afternoon I will probably jettison them. Mr. Foran, you are employed by your share holders to run your company efficiently not pander to some unelected fake refugee who has a record of defending someone who was found guilty of genocide and then trying deny it. I realise this isn’t a crime but taking a selfie with him is probably the most stupid thing she could have done. Why not grow a pair and say something to that effect ? I’m sorry Mr. Foran but you are a dick and should be replaced by someone who is a real manager rather than a gutless apologist.

Peter Williams was discussing COVID vaccine safety this morning. There was some pushback from Ardern sycophants who still won’t hear anything against her or the Labour parody.

    • Yes, WG. Without the Duck she’s toast. She has confidence in him shielding her from accountability and honest questioning. Defending the indefensible, however, won’t go unnoticed as his actions are contrary to her agenda of kindness and virtue. Especially given that this all played out with a backdrop of them supposedly making parliament a bully-free environment. She can’t denounce bullying while defending the bully. And this isn’t name-calling at the water cooler; Mallard has ruined a man’s career, and permanently affected his life.

  10. Hundreds of UK academics investigated over weapons links to China

The individuals could face a maximum of ten years in prison if found in breach of the Export Control Order 2008. A source told The Times that the government was preparing to send enforcement notices to up to 200 UK citizens working at more than a dozen British universities. The individuals are suspected of transferring world-leading research in advanced military technology such as aircraft, missile designs and cyberweapons to China.

  11. BFD has a great post questioning the competence of Matthew Tukaki as the Chair of the Oranga Tamariki Advisory Board.

    https://thebfd.co.nz/2021/02/09/why-does-the-abusive-matthew-tukaki-still-have-his-government-appointments/

So what are Matthew’s qualifications you might ask? None, if a 2019 interview by Dale Husband is anything to go by.

Embarrassed by his family’s lack of money and failing School Cert, he left school before he was suspended. To self-educate, he read the newspaper, the business section of the Dom Post and the Turf’s Digest. Seriously. CNN informed his geography. Having lied to his mother to gain a computer, Encarta gave him his knowledge of important Maoris.

Failing the NZ Certificate of Business twice, he landed a job shredding paper at Social Welfare, eventually becoming a Case Manager. Uninspired he got a job answering phones for the BNZ, incredibly becoming a personal banker. Perhaps this was the genesis of his belief that a lack of qualifications should be no barrier to a good job? Realising he was ‘out of his depth’ (were others catching on to his bs?), he decided to leave for Australia.

What to do about a job there? No problem, Matthew had a cunning plan. Choose a mark and make your play. Justin, an Australian recruitment officer was selected. Matthew called him from NZ claiming a fictitious pub meeting. Despite being one of the oldest tricks in the book for recruiters, Justin secures Matthew a sales job earning $65,000 pa instead of the $25,000 he got in NZ. Matthew was pinching himself. ‘I had this amazing job gifted to me because I have used the same techniques that Maori have used for a long time, which is the art of storytelling. I told a story to get myself a job that I had no skills or qualifications for.’ The real world calls it dishonest Matthew but what do we know?

His dishonesty aside, to illustrate what a GC Matthew really is, Justin soon became his ‘best mate’. Unfortunately, Matthew was always too busy to meet Justin for a beer. Even so, Matthew was very angry with himself when Justin committed suicide. We’re not privy to why Justin killed himself or whether finding out your ‘best mate’ has been lying to you all along had any consideration. Did Matthew ever confess his mendacity to Justin? Perhaps not and Matthew’s lies paid no role at all? More questions are raised than answered but we already know Matthew has become a master of spin ie a liar.

Lying to get a job is one thing but bragging of your dishonesty is narcissistic. It displays complete unawareness that dishonesty is bad. Matthew’s honour is up for grabs depending on the rewards. Why would anyone in Maoridom, let alone his fellow Advisory Board members, see him as a worthy Chair or assign him anymore than than the paper-shredding role of his first job? Why is the least qualified member of the Board its Chair? Why is he even a member? I expected more from Mark Solomon at least.

    Pat Condell @patcondell 1d·
“The new American oligarchy believes that democracy’s failures are proof of their own exclusive right to power—and they are happy to rule in partnership with a foreign power that will help them destroy their own countrymen.”

    This is absolutely essential reading.
A clear and damning summary of why we are where we are.
Read it to the end if you want to understand everything that has happened in the last year or so.
If it doesn’t fill you with fury, you’re dead.

    https://gab.com/patcondell/posts/105690297435494297

A glimpse of some ancient history, in the first 3 paragraphs, but the real story of how China & American systems are becoming joined at the hip.

….. a nexus of public and private sector interests that shared not only the same prejudices and hatreds, cultural tastes and consumer habits but also the same center of gravity—the U.S.-China relationship.
And so, the China Class was born.

Connections that might have once seemed tenuous or nonexistent now became lucid under the light of Trump’s scorn, and the reciprocal scorn of the elite that loathed him. …..

…. Trump saw decoupling the United States from China as a way to dismantle the oligarchy that hated him and sent American jobs abroad, he couldn’t follow through on the vision.
After correctly identifying the sources of corruption in our elite, the reasons for the impoverishment of the middle classes, and the threats foreign and domestic to our peace, he failed to staff and prepare to win the war he asked Americans to elect him to fight.

And because it was true that China was the source of the China Class’ power, …..

  14. I reckon the share and property markets will collapse soon. I also reckon they have to. Because I believe market reality will prevail even in a rigged artificial game of fake money.

I think Mikey will be comparatively okay, as will anyone who lived within their means. Comparatively.

Why? Easy. We are spending more and producing less. Money is issued as debt based upon future earnings. We spend ahead. That’s fiat currency and fractional reserve banking defined.

We are also divided socially. It’s a perfect storm.

I invite readers to share their thoughts…

    9

    • Certainly divided socially and politically. As a South Islander I feel we have, in general, a totally different view of our Country. We do visit our northern island every so often, next time in March/April this year and we note the whole demographics always appear quite different, not so much in the small towns though. It’s been 3 years since last time, I am feeling we are going to see quite a difference from then.

    • Through one way or another, the money is being sprayed around,
      https://www.debtclock.nz/

Wednesday, 14 October 2020, The date the clock was started?
      https://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/BU2010/S00208/official-new-zealand-government-debt-clock-launched-at-debtclocknz.htm

I do not know if that money tree has been slowed down, still the same, or sped up?

Where does that money go to, like from beneficiaries, then to paying the rent, to an rental housing investor?
Just how does this money track? as by now one would think there are some well worn tracks.

But the government then turns around and spouts on how great NZ recovery and growth is better than ever.
That the government credits itself that all is in balance.
Once the taps are turned on, everyone near the government seems to forget this is based on borrowing.

      6

    • Cindy “refudes” that! She says NZ “GDP” is run on kindness not productivity. //

I heard a US economist comment a few weeks back that their inflation failing to rise even with all this money printing just proves how dead their economy is.

Same for NZ, I would have thought the crash would have already happened… it’s coming. When the last crash came in late 2008, it had been predicted for 2-3 years. When it happened everyone seemed surprised, as they will be when it happens again.

      7

      0

    • You are right that money is mainly created through debt by commercial banks Kea.. but also can be created by Fiat from central banks.

The reason that we have not had runaway inflation from all the central bank money creation is the commercial banks are sitting on the. money and not lending it (velocity of money is low).. the “great reset” will be a completely different system where the central banks will bypass the commercial banks and give people money directly to create this velocity.

The new system will not be a debt based system, cash will be done away with, and the power of the central banks to control your behavior will be massive.. for example extreme negative interest rates if your don’t spend your UBI payment. The stimulus cheques are a exercise to get the population use to the idea.

Also one scenario is that the commercial banks will collapse under the mountain of debt, central banks will take over all outstanding mortgages and let the people stay in their houses as long as they meet certain conditions.. a neo-feudal system.

Absolutely agree there are some very smart and well respected economists who are saying it’s all going to turn to shit within 3 to 4 months ,apparently it’s all Tricky Dickies fault for installing a temporary hold on the necessity for the US dollar to be backed up by gold etc, this became permanent and 50 years later the USA on its last legs.

As far as social outcomes ,my guess is if you have worked hard and achieved something including some level of wealth you’ve got a fricking big socialist target on your back.
If on the other hand you have been and still are a useless bludging drain on society things are looking up for you in Cindies 2021 NZ.

    • Many happy returns Ed.
Probably too late in the day for this but,
      Economy prediction.
      Facts :
Growth in the money supply this year is 20% or one fifth of all the dollars already in existence or in the existing money supply.,This is widely spread throughout the economy. Broad money supply includes household debt and asset values among other things. Some businesses households are flush with cash.
      But:
Productivity in NZ is struggling to achieve 1% as usual.
Too many dollars looking at too few goods. An exchange rate based on a dream!
So we are looking at an outcome that could likely be inflation of a virulence not seen this century.
Already house prices import prices, land prices , minimum wage, food , new and used vehicles and many other items are all rapidly increasing in in price. Inventories and supply of goods are decreasing.
NZ urgently needs sound management to minimise these occurrences,
And the new RB act seems not likely to fit with that description.

I sincerely hope these predictions are totally wrong.

Recent FBI files released indicate as much.

September 1959 Visit Of Soviet Premier Nikita S. Khrushchev To The United States
    by Federal Bureau of Investigation
    https://archive.org/details/September1959VisitOfSovietPremierNikitaS.KhrushchevToTheUnitedStates/page/n1139/mode/2up

Politifact and Snopes are lying about it’s validity.
The fact checkers, when fact checked recently were found to be spreading large quantities of manure.

BUSTED: Politifact Caught in Major Lie on Early Morning Ballot Dump at the TCF Center in Detroit
    https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2021/02/busted-politifact-caught-major-lie-early-morning-ballot-dump-tcf-center-detroit/

This was Khruschevs entire quote :

“Your children’s children will live under communism, You Americans are so gullible. No, you won’t accept communism outright; but we will keep feeding you small doses of socialism until you will finally wake up and find you already have Communism. We will not have to fight you; We will so weaken your economy, until you will fall like overripe fruit into our hands.” “The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.” Remember, socialism leads
to Communism. So, how do you create a Socialistic State?
There are 8 levels of control; read the following recipe:
    1) Healthcare – Control healthcare and you control the people.
    2) Poverty – Increase the poverty level as high as possible, poor people are easier to control and will not fight back if you are providing everything for them.
    3) Debt – Increase the debt to an unsustainable level. That way you are able to increase taxes and this will produce more poverty.
    4) Gun Control – Remove the ability to defend themselves from the Government that way you are able to create a police state.
    5) Welfare – Take control of every aspect (food, housing, income) of their lives because that will make them fully dependent on the government.
    6) Education – Take control of what people read and listen to and take control of what children learn in school.
    7) Religion – Remove the belief in God from the Government and schools because the people need to believe in ONLY the government knowing what is best for the people.
    8) Class Warfare – Divide the people into the wealthy and the poor. Eliminate the middle class. This will cause more discontent and it will be easier to tax the wealthy with the support of the poor.
He also said “We will bury you”.

The organization has been accused of conflicts of interests with private pharmaceutical companies and mega-philanthropic organizations such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, as well as being riddled with political alliances, ideologies, and profiteering motives.

“Over 2020 as a whole, 39,420 new dwellings were consented, the highest number since 1974. 2021 is highly likely to prove even stronger.”

And yet the economists say this building boom is coming at a time when population growth has “plunged” to its lowest level in a decade.

“Net migration has been close to zero since Covid-19 struck, a far cry from the 70,000 net migrants the country received in 2019.

    https://www.interest.co.nz/property/108941/westpac-economists-say-severe-housing-shortages-have-been-dogging-new-zealand-are

“But the economic effect of building so far in excess of population growth could become apparent sooner.
“We expect to see rent inflation easing within a year.

Watch out Auckland and Tauranga, Taupo.
Taupo seems to be there. Not a lot of new builds and a couple of subdivisions on hold that I noticed.

    • Mate Westpac couldn’t forecast Christmas. They’ve been blowing on through 2020 that house prices were going to fall by 10%.. yada yada..and look what happened. Granted, covid turned up but anyone with an ounce of grey matter can tell that returnees are turning the housing market upside down. Throw in FOMO plus low interest rates and that will see it continue increasing this year despite what the naysayers squeal. NZ looks very appealing and inviting from an outsiders point of view. Clean, healthy and secure with the bonus of being surrounded by vast amounts of water. Chuck in the loon PM who everyone loves..buckle in, enjoy the ride and enjoy your increasing wealth.

      • The truth is Mikey most economists are useless at forecasting. But in this case even someone like you can do the simple maths.
The RBNZ has just upped the game as they are in crappers creek with their leak.
All majors have now or are about to up the deposit requirements.
They are also being a lot tougher on where the deposit comes from and the icing on the cake is your mate Robbo. He is going to pull a few useless stunts.
Add in the HNZ has been carte blanche to build like madmen and so have the brown fellas and there will be a lot ofhouses around soon.
Not the first time. It’s all been done before.

Oh and the longterm swap rates are going back up.

        HIGHER LVRs
RBNZ is to require most property investors to have at least a 40% deposit when buying a new property. Most owner-occupiers will require 20% deposits. These new regulator standards come after the banking industry has already adopted such levels.

SWAP & BOND LONG RATES STILL RISING
Long rates are still moving up. We don’t have today’s swap rate movements yet. If there are material changes when the end-of-day swap rates are available, we will update them here. We expect them to reflect a rising long-end market. The 90 day bank bill rate is up +1 bp at 0.29%.

        • Viking, investors @ 40% deposit. No biggy unless you are a first timer.
20% deposit for owner occupier property. Nothings changed there.
If you live anywhere but Auckland and can scrape together a deposit, hold a job and have a long term view..you’d be silly not to buy property. Oh, and lock in for 5 years @ the going rate of around 3%. Thats a filthy good rate.
          As usual, DYOR.

    • 100% agree on that Rissole. My wealth has come from sheer hard work and determination. I worked like a chinaman from age of around 11 years old holding down multiple jobs and I carried on that habit through my adult working life. Nothing was handed to me, not even inheritance.

  22. Commentary

Discussing the Democrats’ impeachment trial in legal terms is a ludicrous waste of time. Anyone literate in the English language can see that the concept of impeaching a post-president is entirely absent from the U.S. Constitution.

Removing someone from office who is no longer in office in the first place is a serio-comic oxymoron straight out of the Theater of the Absurd.

What is actually going on is Trump Derangement Syndrome taken from a neurosis to some kind of bizarre psychosis with overtones of obsessive-compulsive disorder.
    https://www.theepochtimes.com/moral-narcissism-and-the-show-trial-of-donald-trump_3690218.html?utm_source=newsnoe&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=breaking-2021-02-08-4

Although nearly pervasive in the Democratic Party, moral narcissism is not exclusive to it. A number of Republicans fit the description as well and you can almost be certain they will be among those voting to convict Trump in the Show Trial.

New Zealand cuts off all high-level political & military contacts with Myanmar, as tens of thousands protest military coup

New Zealand has severed all ties with the Burmese military government, announcing a travel ban on its leadership, as protesters turned out in force in Myanmar against the overthrow of de-facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
New Zealand doesn’t recognize the military junta as the legitimate representative of the Burmese people, Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta stated on Monday, demanding the military “immediately release all detained political leaders and restore civil rule.”

In addition to the call to reverse the takeover, New Zealand said it would not engage with the military government, led by General Min Aung Hlaing.
