  1. Just heard Biden on the news, you don’t have to pay backache covid loans and you can be a criminal to receive them, then what is with his voice???? So that will be wonderful for the American economy won’t it? He sounds like he has an odd type of impediment just like, but a different one to our ptpm. What is with leftists and their speech?

  3. Save the smelter, save the jobs… https://www.msn.com/en-nz/news/national/smelter-stockpiles-100000-tonnes-of-hazardous-waste-near-beach/ar-BB1dSO1K

Ive hated the way both national and labour handed wheelbarrows of cash and discounts/subsidies to this scum corporate,  not only do we give them welfare but like a slow motion trainwreck you know how its going to end… a billion or 2 more of taxpayers money to clean up the tiwai legacy,  i know they say 250mil but seriously the govt will get taken for a ride and itll cost far more.
The govts over the last 10years when making deals with them should have included a clause to force them to clean up first,  cant do it now then they arent going to do it once theyve packed up and left are they.

All for a few overpaid jobs…

    • Both labour and national understood that you want to keep in the country a business like this that was bringing substantially more money into the economy. Part of their contract is that they have to clean the area up and return it to how it was before they came.

      • Bwahahaha are you saying a corporate is going to keep their word and rehabilitate?
Go look at their track record in other countries, your more likely to get blood from a rock.

NO big business should get corporate welfare, the fuckers make billions their profit is more then nz surplus on a good year!!
Name 1 business that performs well in all areas, always some aspect that underperforms but the rest props it up and other years itll boom while other areas crash.

If theyre intent on cleaning it up after theyve bleed nz dry then the rio tintos board will have no trouble signing their names to the dotted line to be personally liable for any cleanup costs the govt has to undertake.

Garuntee the faceless corporate will ditch it and leave a mess

    • I assume you mean the drink? Not personally, all i know is that it suppsedly tastes shit and the island folk dont waste their time and just go straight for bourbon or rum instead although that could be purely because theyre lazy and kava takes time and work to make rtds not so much.

      • Does the drink make you ‘high’? Is it a dangerous drug like crack cocaine? Does it drive girls into prostitution in order to fund their vice of kavakava? Does it make you stupid and lazy?

If the answer to any of the above is ‘yes!’, where can you buy it?

  4. Shame Aussie! Their GG office gone woke with a staff ‘white privilege walk’. Staff divide themselves depending on their level of privilege. How does highlighting the achievement and hinderances of life between staff achieve anything but division and resentment? A walk of shame for some and approved elitism for others.

  6. Mental Health Foundation you cannot criticise the government – precious darlings are taking us to North Korea style culture.

    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2021/02/ministry-of-health-accused-of-trying-to-gag-mental-health-foundation-for-criticising-government.html

The Mental Health Foundation’s boss Shaun Robinson told Newshub they are not alone and that many other providers are just too scared to speak up for fear of losing their funding.

“I was told that we were going down a very dangerous road, and the only implication of that can be that there was some threat to our funding,” Robinson said on Monday.

    • It is amazing how the super-rich and the aristocracy so pump all the left-wing fads, such as “anthropogenic climate change,” “the great reset,” “socialism,” and other woke-ness.

Do they really think this will make the “little people” love them more? (It wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t for their Bill-Gates-sized multi-billionaire hypocrisy.)

Seriously, the elite must really be out of touch. But then, why would they need to be? I guess they just follow the guidance of their publicity and media managers.

      • O-Sen
        you say
‘the elite must really be out of touch.’

        That is extreme naivety
        The elite control and direct.
People like Ardern, Biden and Obummer are mere puppets.
People like Killery Clinton are mere lieutenants, not Generals.
Players include Piglosi and K Harris.

It is the majority of the great unwashed who waste time watching TV1 and such shite and think they are informed. Say What!!!
They are told what they need to be told.
They are told to fear ‘the weather’ and a normal flu bug.
They watch reality TV (?) and get directed by puppet master Simon Cowell as to what they should think is entertainment and talent.
They waste endless time arguing about who is a better first five or which is a better soccer club.
While the real stuff is done around them.

Fear the weather and an average flu bug.
Get all jizzied up about a black chappie in the USA who was high on drugs who died not complying with the cops.
Feel guilty about all the white mans achievements of the last 150 years and check your privilege at the door. (and you Toyota and Honda makers)
Worship stone age peoples who yearn for the stone age.

The great unwashed are not told to fear the elite who are doing a rapid reset and when the NZ DPM gets asked about it he ghosts the interviewer.

          • More “intelligent minds”? to have control?

            Put it another way.
Who did not have an “intelligent mind”
            Lenin?
            Stalin?
            King Henry viii

            Hitler?
            Saddam Hussein?
            Genghis Khan?
            etc..
            All well educated.

Do we have an intelligent mind?
Are we “well educated”, but by according to who?

              • For the past 4 years in the USA, the lobbyist hit a drought, as they could not work for their industries, corporations, NGO’s (green, sustainable, UN, etc.)

The lobbyist, more so than the legislators were the ones who drew up the laws.
The legislators (wined, dined, traveled) just moved, 2nd and voted for the legislation.

It was one of the reasons, that Trump ruffled so many feathers in the USA,

The pay-dirt in the new Joe Bama, Biden administration as appointments of influence have even got closer, to moving and enforcing their own laws.

                “Influencers”?
The power of educated, intelligent men, that decide they know best, and it is for “your good”.

Why should they have a conscience, be held a accountable, as it is absolved for “your good”, the “planets good” the “greater good”?
Are you a prisoner of yourself, for your good?
                Freedom? Choice?

“All care is taken, but no responsibility” as it is for “your good”,

                Is this what “democracy” means?

          • I never said you are the puppet
            YOU are the audience.

The puppets are the likes of Biden and Obummer as I stated.
Add in Treason May, ‘Ranjiv’ Trudeau. Mitch McConnell

            Trump was not a puppet.
            He was wrecking the show.
Her had to go. By fair means or foul.
            It was the latter.

The puppet masters are like any good puppet show.
            They are seldom seen .
Try Davos, WEF, Trlateral Commission, Fabian.

Simpleton has covered a lot of this in recent times.

  9. I call bullshit on the latest figures there is no way child poverty is improving when record breaking numbers are seeking food parcels and help. And since this only takes into account t the 9 months up to March 2020 then this is fake news, not showing all the poverty increase that has occurred since covid

    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/child-poverty-more-than-twice-as-likely-to-affect-maori-pasifika-disabled-children-as-pakeha/7ARXL2Y5O3XP2SP3FZIUOSCKBE/

Māori, Pasifika and households with disabled children are more than twice as likely to be experiencing poverty compared to Pākehā, the latest statistics show.

The new poverty figures show while the Government is on track to meet two out of three of its child poverty reduction targets, those gains are being unequally felt.

The data released by Statistics NZ today also show housing costs continuing to have a strong impact on the number of children living in poverty….

In a statement after the numbers were released, Prime Minister Ardern said the figures showed a “broad improvement” in child poverty rates.

“Today’s numbers demonstrate our actions to reduce child poverty are making a real difference in children’s lives, and they are a promising indication our goal of halving child poverty within 10 years is on track.”

  10. Someone should bring this interesting article predicting Earth Temperature changes using solar-planetary theory ( Prof Valentina Zharkova) to the attention of the Climate Change Commission because it seems likely they have been mis-informed or have wasted their time.

    Part of the conclusions:

Naturally, on top of this increase of the baseline terrestrial
temperature, there are imposed much larger temperature oscillations
caused by standard solar activity cycles of 11 and 350–400 years and
terrestrial causes. The terrestrial temperature is expected to grow
during maxima of 11 year solar cycles and to decrease during their
minima. Furthermore, the substantial temperature decreases are expected
during the two grand minima to occur in 2020–2055 and 2370–2415,
whose magnitudes cannot be yet predicted and need further
investigation. These oscillations of the estimated terrestrial
temperature do not include any human-induced factors, which were outside
the scope of the current paper.

    https://tallbloke.wordpress.com/2019/06/25/zharkova-uses-solar-planetary-theory-in-new-paper-predicting-earth-temperature-rise-to-2600-following-imminent-grand-solar-minimum/

How will Greta explain that every year for the next 35 yrs it’s going to be bloody cold?

    8

    0

    • Unfortunately there is nothing new in this. Zharkova is absolutely correct and is repeating science that has been known for years. But it doesn’t fit the agenda of the climate scaremongers so it will not be allowed to gain any publicity.

It’s a story you’ve heard before from anyone foolish enough to still live in Wellington.

While the Wellington CBD has always been priced higher than most other university towns, the issue used to lie mostly with the lack of supply (something that is still a huge problem – ask any student or young adult.)

Price has now come to the forefront, with $610 a week for a two-bedroom shoebox of an apartment considered normal. My landlord told me it was still significantly under market value – and he’s not wrong.

So my rent has just gone up $100 a week.

A closer look at U.S. deaths due to COVID-19

After retrieving data on the CDC website, Briand compiled a graph representing percentages of total deaths per age category from early February to early September, which includes the period from before COVID-19 was detected in the U.S. to after infection rates soared.

Surprisingly, the deaths of older people stayed the same before and after COVID-19. Since COVID-19 mainly affects the elderly, experts expected an increase in the percentage of deaths in older age groups. However, this increase is not seen from the CDC data. In fact, the percentages of deaths among all age groups remain relatively the same.

“The reason we have a higher number of reported COVID-19 deaths among older individuals than younger individuals is simply because every day in the U.S. older individuals die in higher numbers than younger individuals,” Briand said.

Briand also noted that 50,000 to 70,000 deaths are seen both before and after COVID-19, indicating that this number of deaths was normal long before COVID-19 emerged. Therefore, according to Briand, not only has COVID-19 had no effect on the percentage of deaths of older people, but it has also not increased the total number of deaths.

These data analyses suggest that in contrast to most people’s assumptions, the number of deaths by COVID-19 is not alarming. In fact, it has relatively no effect on deaths in the United States.

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/timaru-herald/news/124317731/timaru-school-teaching-pupils-to-be-more-independent-at-zebra-crossings

Grantlea Downs teacher Sally Guthrie said the school had phased out the lollipop system – where two Year 8 pupils, posted at either side of a pedestrian crossing and under adult supervision, lower stop signs to halt traffic and give their peers a chance to cross safely – starting this term.

Instead, children gather at a designated assembly point near the pedestrian crossing and once the group is big enough, a pupil “ambassador” leads them to the other side of the road.

“They’re becoming more independent. It will just become ingrained in how they cross when they’re in town,” Guthrie said.

        • On history in NZ.
          well written.
In our schools, general history is not taught systematically. Certainly not at the primary and intermediate stages of education, and it is possible to largely avoid the subject at secondary school. You can spend 13 years at school without ever encountering the Roman Empire, the Ming Dynasty, the American Revolution, let alone the Cold War.

For young New Zealanders without knowledge of such past events, the world must be a bewildering place. Even with a compulsory New Zealand history curriculum, knowing New Zealand’s place in space and time would be hard. How could you understand the turning points which shaped humanity’s fate, the ideas that formed our societies and the people who promoted them?

          https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/oliver-hartwich-dont-know-much-about-history/J2ZMYKKOBORFHQMOHVZU2BW3AY/

International surveys of millennials and Gen Zs (so everyone born since 1980) record a resurgence of sympathies for ‘socialism.’ ‘So what’ you might say.

However, the problem is that the same surveys then also reveal that many of these young people are unacquainted with the actual meaning of the term, let alone its historical expressions. These young ‘socialists’ know little of Marx and Engels, let alone of Lenin, Stalin and Mao. They would also be unfamiliar with the economic consequences of socialism and its totalitarian tendencies. They would probably not even know what totalitarianism means.

That kind of historical ignorance is widespread. It results directly from our failure to teach general history at school. The most basic ideas, events and people are unknown to many of our students.

Is this to gain power & control, to live the dream?

            • Frankly I can’t blame then about Pearl Harbour if their ‘source’ was the Bennifer Affleck/Michael Bay movie in 2001 !!
Even I was confused about who loved who and who was saving who.
To be fair, I never got to the end.

D-Day as a ‘rapper’ …. i do kind of understand that one too.

              The question is
Are they being educated properly and if not then whose fault?
If the education system is delivering then why are the kids not learning.

We already know they cannot be held back as it might hurty hurt self esteem and who needs education when there is the DPB, Dole, and food stamps.
              Or become an instagram ‘influencer’

A kid who was 6 ten years ago is now 16 and has ten years of garbage Karcrashian stuff pushed down their throat.
              More crap from media.
Reporting it is if it is gnews.
The kids get a lot of crap thrown their way and dont have the capacity to filter it all.
This is all pushed by the filthy Tech oligarchs like Gates, Bezos, Suckerberg as part of deliberate distraction and dilution from reality.
I mean, who the hell came up with the label ‘reality TV’ for something that is not even close.

I suspect schools are marking off ‘lack of absence’ than ‘present and learning’

Also you have to be careful that media garbage do ‘surveys’ on the street and ask questions that are not pertinent to that demographic/geographic then gleefully ‘report’ the results of their fakery.
              Another page of fake news.

              • In New Zealand for ANZAC day it has a blurring.
How people felt, the feelz, how would “you” feelz about the noise, death, wounded.
Imagine ‘Your’ family hearing about the wounding or death.

Sure people felt, and families and then, particularly the returned with such a vasts range of feelings & understanding, but they also had the big picture too.

But the big picture of understanding, just how many “causalities” in a battle, ground won or lost, the positioning in hope for future benefit, or a sad sacrificial lesson, hopefully learnt from.

Appreciating it was over 3 years of causalities & losses until the Al Alamein turning point, and for Churchill, it was a hope, that it was the turning point.

Strange how wars now last decades, and never seem settled.
The claim casualities are lower, but the numbers of affected, refugees seem to have become another tool to be used.

                The contrast
…. Reporting it is if it is gnews. ….
…. deliberate distraction and dilution from reality. …
                …. Karcrashian …..

Creating other issues to be so important in peoples lives, based on unproven theories.
The academia and the media like wolves on the flanks, pushing, and herding, scaring with a new crises, a mob of sheep that will surprise, surprise, be stampeded into a swamp of horrors.

Eisenhower sure warned of the industrial militarily complex, but he spent more time picking up about the funding to researchers, universities, academia who in turn point their fingers at the military part, and convinced many, that is where the problem is.

          • Post 1980
            Yes.
            DPB Came in for 1973.
ACC about the same time .
At that time the Govt Depts soaked up ‘unemployment’.
Eg Post Office. Lots is ‘make work’ schemes .
Several of my Great Uncles left school at 15 and had a job for life at the post office, first delivering telegrams then later shuffling about looking busy.
They could retire on Public service pension at 55 after 40 years.

It all looked sweet around 1973.
            NZ’s warmest day ever.
Then everything started to cool down.
Reality struck, and struck, and struck again.

            Britain joined the common market.
There was a bloody big oil shock; followed by another one.
Inflation went to double figures eroding the savings of the ‘Wars generation’
Those long haired rock bands were about saying drugs and sex is fine …as long as it with rock n roll.
Extra TV channels appeared and had to be filled with something ..so they were filled with crap.
            There were many changes .

It is said there are transformational changes around every 50 years.
            When 2 generations has passed.
The third generation has not experienced the hardship nor seen the effort required.
1880s were tough financial times around the world. Vogel reforms in NZ
The 1930s repeated. First NZ Labour Govt
The sting was in the tail in the 1970s and we were going backwards.
1980s called for big changes and these happened.

Nonetheless the new parents after 1980 decided to have less children and could do it with reliable contraception.
This meant a lift in the standard of living for the family. Middle and upper class.

There is the reliable Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.
            https://www.simplypsychology.org/maslow.html#gsc.tab=0
Basically those born into the middle class and above post 1980 had the bottom two of the 5 levels catered for so never had to struggle.
Safety and Physiological needs were covered.
This was not necessarily the case in the 1930s nor the 1940s and NZ fared better than even Britain in the 1950s.
Few people born in the 1890s to the 1930s ever achieved the top level of — self actualisation.
They were often just ‘too pooped’ to chase it.

The kids now are fresh and have an easy start and are chasing idealism (Maslow level 5 Self actualisation) without understanding what it took to get through level 1 and 2.

            Well said above Viking.
            I agree.
In approx 400 words I have tried to give a synopsis of why this is.
Understanding the Maslow Hierarchy is important to understand this situation.

  16. No surprise there

    https://www.oann.com/reports-biden-admin-colluded-with-iran-to-derail-president-trump/

New evidence has revealed a likely collusion and conspiracy between Joe Biden and Iran’s Ayatollah regime. According to The Washington Times on Sunday, top Obama-era officials Robert Malley and John Kerry established a back-channel with Iran in July 2019 in an apparent violation of the Logan Act. The two now hold top positions in the Biden administration.

The report found Kerry and Malley spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif to normalize U.S.-Iranian ties and lift U.S. sanctions. Separate reports said their efforts may have been aimed at derailing the Trump administration’s foreign policy on Iran.

  17. LEAKED: A DIARY ENTRY BY RICARDO MENENDEZ MARCH MP (possibly satire)
Gracefully returning from Mexico, the third most deadly COVID-19 hotspot, suddenly I am confronted by a border guard demanding all this paperwork about quarantine, isolation, and contact tracing that apparently I, a busy Member of Parliament, should have filled in “months ago”. “Months ago?” – who can understand such bureaucratic jargon?
Responding to the frontline staff, I point out the obvious absurdity in his argument. “Next”, I quip, “you will be saying that Kiwis should not travel to Mexico at all.” He produces a piece of paper from the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade saying exactly that. However, I spot that it is almost a year old. I cannot be expected to keep up with these historical edicts about the country of my birth and intended destination. I am a list MP.
This will not stand. I fix the guard with my most smoldering Central American gaze and confidently ask: “Do you know who I am?”
Turns out he has absolutely no idea who I am, and no one in the growing and increasingly restless line behind me can help him. Someone quipped that I might be “Cliff Curtis’ less famous brother” which was the best of a bad bunch.
I decide to go over the guard’s head and ask my old comrade Chris Hipkins for an emergency MIQ slot. Problem solved, so I return to Koru Club for a free-range soy latte with a twist of GMO-free lemon.
Well, it seems that Minister Hipkins (as he insists I call him) either does not know who I am, does not care who I am, or does not consider backbench Green list MPs to be essential workers during a pandemic.
Over a leisurely dandelion and bog myrtle muffin in the lounge, I realise this situation could actually look bad from a PR perspective. Even the tamest of journalists will occasionally latch onto stories about Green MPs who preach carbon neutrality constantly topping the frequent flyer miles, or members of the most principled party in Parliament trying to use their status to jump the queue.
I call in our communications “big gun” – though the Greens’ musterer insists he/she/they are referred to as “the sizable inclusive conversation”.
It is Clint. He may have a surname, but everyone calls him “Hey Clint” for some reason. Probably a cultural title… Hola Ricardo has quite a ring to it. Will write to the Speaker and see what he/she/they think of my plan.
“Hey Clint” has come up with a great strategy for when the opposition and media find out what I have done. I should say that I never wanted what I applied for. You know, that application that used up time and resources from officials, the head of MBIE, party leader James Shaw, and Minister Hipkins. I am sure they relished a bit of excitement during these quiet days of summer.
He – and I now have written permission to call him he – suggested I mention family illnesses and my long-term partner as often as possible, but not mention I go to Mexico at this time every year.
On reflection, this might actually be good for my career. I should go on holiday more often.

  18. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/return-the-favour-nsw-premier-calls-on-jacinda-ardern-to-open-borders/EO6LXABD2UKJATJHGVRNSGWJBQ/

The NSW Premier has called on New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to “return the favour” and reciprocate Australia’s transtasman bubble with New Zealand.

In a press conference today, Gladys Berejiklian said Kiwis now need to “return the favour” to Australians after Scott Morrison resumed allowing New Zealanders to enter Australia quarantine-free.

She said they’ve been accepting of New Zealanders for some time and it’s time Ardern and her Government “pull their weight” in creating a two-way transtasman bubble.

  19. The Labour Party has agreed to support a National Party member’s bill that aims to strengthen the way apartments, townhouses and other types of high-density property arrangements are managed.

Associate Housing Minister Poto Williams today (Tuesday) wrote to National’s housing spokesperson Nicola Willis confirming Labour will support the first reading of the Unit Titles (Strengthening Body Corporate Governance and Other Matters) Amendment Bill.

However Labour will try to tweak the Bill during the select committee process.

Noting all the “meritless inclusive diversity” sidekick ‘hire’ parrot on the job too.

The cops were not going to wait, to see the evidence in a court.
Probably realized they would have to drop the court case, so a bit of revenge & intimidation as well.

  21. So on ZB this afternoon when Hipkins denied this and said he didn’t have that information he was lying out of his arse

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/300237685/covid19-two-more-community-cases-announced–siblings-of-papatoetoe-high-student

Two more community cases of Covid-19 have been announced.

They are siblings of a Papatoetoe High School student confirmed as a positive case earlier on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Health said the siblings were a teenager and an infant. The teenager, who is also a student at Papatoetoe High, works at Kmart Botany in east Auckland.

    • Why the sudden change from 1pm releases to drip fed covid cases throughout the day?
Is it so theyre less publicized? Cindy thought she was in for a quick save and now it looks to be a drawn out fuckup likely due to her failings.
Do you think theyre drip feeding so it looks better 1 here 1 there rather then “Breaking news 3 communtity cases”???

“Does any YSB have experience or knowledge of kavakava?”

    BGR…just catchin’ up with today’s HYS….
Have had a wee bit of exposure to this dish water tasting potion (been some 65 years since I tasted dish water though)…it’s classed as a narcotic and is non alcoholic..

A Tongan explained to me that the high was like walking backwards in slow motion…I never experienced this on the occasions that I had tried it and have had more of a buzz from second hand cannabis smoke reeking from the nearby tables of an East Coast pub.

I note that you have called it Kavakava, rather than the ‘kava’…In most Polynesian languages, if you swap out their “v” for a “w”, you get some thing pretty close to the Maori equivalent…eg Kavakava would be Kawakawa.

I was in Vanuatu one time and I asked a local to point out the tree that kava was made from, and lo and behold it looked pretty much like our Kawakawa. (pepper tree family)
    (Macropiper excelsum = Kawakawa)
    (Piper methysticum = Kava)

Kea posted a link a month or two ago explaining that early Maori did not have a predisposition toward alcohol…the article mentioned a mild alcoholic brew made from Kawakawa that was used in pre European times….

BGR…don’t go out and buy that instant Kava that you just add water to….dry out a few Kawakawa leaves and roll up yourself a big fat one…

  24. The UN which has a strategic agreement with the World Economic Forum, WEF to aid the plan of the “Great Reset” set out by Klaus Schwab and Davos supporters.

“White supremacy and neo-Nazi movements are more than domestic terror threats. They are becoming a transnational threat,” he told the Geneva forum. Without naming states, Guterres added:
“Today, these extremist movements represent the number one internal security threat in several countries.”

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-un-rights/white-supremacy-a-transnational-threat-u-n-chief-warns-idUSKBN2AM0NX

I sort of get the feeling that through their many organisations like “strong cities” that align to the UN and to network setting up enforcement’s as “being a positive Actor for change”.
    https://strongcitiesnetwork.org/en/tag/police/

A sure sign of the UN aligning all the allies of the UN, coordinating those NGO’s to be on target and to increase the barrage. 🙁

  25. More than 200 staff at the Whakatane Mill have this evening been presented with a proposal to close the mill.

General Manager Juha Verajankorva said in a statement that, faced with the loss of its biggest customer, the plant was no longer economically viable.

“We have begun consultation with staff on a proposal to wind up the business and close the mill,” he said.

The mill employs just over 210 staff and has produced paper and packaging products, latterly mostly for export, for more than 80 years.

Under the proposal all staff at the mill would be made redundant, the plant decommissioned, and the site remediated.

    • It looks terminal, no business can survive without customers, much as they want to keep operating.
Many other large factory operations are under review and I expect some major closures or scaling back over the next months.
