7:00am – Keith produced some methane. It came from his rumen, where specialised microorganisms convert lignified plant matter into usable nutrition via fermentation. The methane is biogenic. It came from carbon that was in the atmosphere, which the plants captured via photosynthesis, which Keith ate. The methane will return to the atmosphere and break down in twelve years into CO2 and water vapour. The CO2 will be absorbed by the next generation of bramble. Keith will eat the next generation of bramble.
Keith has been doing this on a loop.

The loop has been running since goats were domesticated ten thousand years ago.
8:00am – Keith escaped into the road. This was unrelated to the methane situation. This was about the gate.
8:11am – Keith was back in the field. He had eaten Steve’s bindweed. He came back through Dave’s gate and went directly to the bramble.
9:00am – Keith ate bramble for two hours. Bramble is an invasive scrub species that outcompetes wildflowers, reduces biodiversity, and creates dense monoculture thicket. Keith has no conservation qualifications. Keith has a rumen and a complete indifference to thorns and has been doing this since Tuesday.
2:00pm – Dave counted the clearance. North section: finished. East hedge line: 60% clear. Wet corner: improved. Dave has been meaning to deal with all of this since spring. Keith has dealt with all of it.

📰 Iranian Navy Requests Captain Of HMNZS Manawanui For Advice On Turning Sunken Ships Into Tourist Attractions
TEHRAN / WELLINGTON — Following reports that several Iranian naval vessels have recently been sent to the bottom of the ocean, Iranian officials have reportedly contacted New Zealand seeking expert guidance on how to “make the most of a perfectly good shipwreck.”
The request specifically asked for assistance from the crew involved with the HMNZS Manawanui, which sank off Samoa in 2024 after running aground during a reef survey.
Iranian naval spokesperson Rear Admiral Amin Abooat said the country is keen to explore “positive opportunities” arising from ships that are now resting permanently on the seabed.
“We understand New Zealand has successfully demonstrated how a modern naval vessel can transition into a thriving underwater attraction,” he said.
“This is the kind of innovation we’re looking for.”
According to defence sources, Iranian planners are particularly interested in the “marine reserve approach,” where a destroyed vessel is reframed as an artificial reef and premium scuba-diving location rather than an operational mishap.
“They’ve basically said, ‘If the ship’s already down there, you may as well sell dive tours,’” one Western analyst explained.
Early proposals reportedly include:
• “Guided Revolutionary Reef Tours”
• Underwater missile-shaped coral gardens
• A souvenir kiosk on the nearest coastline
Back in New Zealand, defence officials declined to comment on the request but confirmed the wreck of the Manawanui now lies roughly 30 metres underwater after the vessel struck a reef and sank during survey operations.
All 75 people onboard were safely evacuated during the incident, which investigators later attributed to a series of human errors including confusion over the ship’s autopilot system.
Reaction on the West Coast has been mixed.
Local resident Lou Sarsoul said he was impressed the country’s naval mishap had achieved international recognition.
“Look, if Iran wants tips, we’ve clearly got experience,” he said.
“You don’t see many countries accidentally inventing a reef with a $100-million boat.”
Meanwhile fisherman Mike Ockhurtz said the whole situation sounded familiar.

In our keyless lock vehicle when the driver leaves the vehicle leaving behind passengers the central locking locks the doors with no apparent available exit. Having the spare key fob in the car is not a deterrent to the computer taking charge of the central locking.
Physically pressing the unlock on the spare key fob will unlock the doors. Being held captive is a bit freaky 😳
