Raoul Island is about 1000km from East Cape. Tsumanis travel at about 700 – 100km/h. So a useful warning should have gone out to the whole country at least 30 mins before the potential tsumami strikes. So I’d say a fail The Rauol Island seems to about 7.4 just under the 7.5 that is considered the loewer limit for a Tsunami, BUT these figures often get revised up or down… The pattern seems tobe moving South. I’d be nervous anyywhere along the main fault line for the next 7 days or so… Just saying.

As an aside, I live on the Manukau and a friend of mine said on the phone that the Manukau was in danger. When I pointed out that the Manukau is on the WEST coast, not the EAST coast, she said “They say there’s still a risk” and I thought she simply didn’t know about East and West as she went to school in NZ and therefore didn’t really have any sort of useful education.
Imagine my surprise then, when I found that the Manukau had been declared a ‘beach and marine’ risk zone by the idiots at NEMA!
What are these fuckwits on? Do they REALLY think that a tsunami can swirl all the way around the top of the North Island, then reverse its direction and cross a sandbar to shoot up a beach facing the way it came?

A request for you all. I’m having debate with a friend over Covid deaths and I said the USA data, in particular, was misleading.
I can recall, but cannot find it now, a simple summary of total deaths per year from all causes (for the USA) for the past 5 or so years which showed very little difference.
Has anyone got information saved or an idea where I might find it?

I would point out that however and whichever way you analyse the death numbers and statistics, THERE IS NOTHING ESPECIALLY ALARMING IN THE NUMBERS.
The population of the United States is 328,200,000
Say for arguments sake that a 5% death rate would be ‘alarming’. Then that would amount to total covid deaths of about 16,410,000.
The actual number (which can be disputed) is estimated at covid deaths of 518,000.
So the covid deaths is about 3% of a crisis (518,000/328,200,000)
The Black Death killed between one third and one half of Europe. One third would amount in the United States to 109,400,000 (compared to 518.000) As a % of a crisis this amounts to 518,000/109,400,000 or merely 0.47% of a REAL PANDEMIC.
