A great opinion piece in Stuff (for once)
https://www.stuff.co.nz/opinion/113430953/the-rate-of-maori-incarceration-is-a-crisis-we-must-start-asking-the-right-questions
Damien Grant rebuffs Chester Borrows report for Andrew Little on Maori imprisonment.
I agree with Damion Grant. There was a Country Calendar programme Saturday about a couple with a small and uneconomic farm block. They had overcome the situation. To survive and to educate their children, both worked away from the farm while continuing to run the farm. Years of hard work for both yet they have persisted.
No suggestion of welfare from the state. They will have paid tax probably to support welfare beneficiaries unwilling to work.
The welfare blanket may be a causative issue for Minister Little to look harder at. I doubt Chester Borrows considered that aspect. I reject the colonisation is a cause argument. It does not work for me.
But all Farmers are lazy fat cats who chomp cigars and laugh while they destroy the environment! Aren’t they??
Mr Grant writes a good column and comes to a brave (for a Stuff writer) but correct decision.
I do wonder, however, if nature may play a part in the problem addressed.
Up until two generations ago childhood often ended around to age of puberty.
A very large percentage of 12 and 13 year olds had to take on adult responsibilities and, often literally, lived or died based on decisions made at that age.
I wonder whether the fact that now, suddenly, young people who nature has made ready for that responsibility are now being refused it by society is not the cause of so much teenage angst.
Whether, rather than put up set barriers between childhood and adulthood, we should recognise when an individual is ready and allow that person to grow at their own speed.
Maybe Maori, having a relatively recent history rather harsh and brutal, develop in this way quicker (mentally) than other races in NZ.
Maybe, in fact, one size doesn’t fit all!
When you worship welfare and American black ghetto thugs, what do you expect? In town I see young Maori men in the middle of the day wandering around with hoodies on and looking like complete slobs, just like their heroes. They don’t want jobs- that would be acting “white”. Prison is hip don’t you know? Get “woke” brotha!
The other day I was reading a story on myths and they mentioned the myth of carrots making you see in the dark.
There, dutifully, was a picture of a bunch of carrots (obviously for the edification of the average recipient of NZ education).
Today I read a story on a competition in Finland
https://www.apnews.com/89b5c4de6b31463186148afa8cdb14ed
For once a story that needs photos, many photos, and not a bloody one to be seen.
I object!
Good to see a blogger that gets up before 8am.
We just need it to load MUCH faster, and to be able to edit typos.
It would also help attract readers if it was easier to navigate on a ‘phone.
Not so many long columns one must traverse in full but putting much of the column behind a link.
YSB, however, is still by far the best NZ political blog out there.
it’s coming. they have assured me that the speed will increase by 80 – 90%. Good things take time. AND your uptick will change colour to show that it has already been used.
Add wp touch and that will sort you phione images.
You can edit now , just refresh your screen and wait a second. You have got 7 minutes to edit your comments
Wow I just requested editing and two hours later its here!
Can I also request that Ardern resigns?
It’s always been here. You old duffers just need to look around a bit. If I had that power re Cindy, I would have done so months ago.
Have you downloaded Grammarly, it highlights the errors first before you post? Not that it and I always agree. Then you still have the edit function as a backup.
I always try and spell right the first time, so I don’t forget how to. Too easy to let a machine do it.
Chris Froome, one of a bunch of Pom cyclists with a rather suspect lineage, is in hospital after riding full bore into a wall.
You decide what this says about cyclists.
Froome says, from his hospital bed, that he intends to work hard towards returning to his previous cycling form.
Keep taking those pills son and you’ll be there in no time.
Apparently he took his hands off the handlebars to blow his nose and his bike was caught by a gust of wind. Really?
Yep, it was a big tailwind gust and it just blow him in the wall. Like been jet propelled!
Now tell me, where does a cyclist carry his hanky?
It is the suspicious bulge in their lycra. A fanny pack.
Bum bag?
British, noy American.
I have.
The nearest motorist would have been given an instant fine and imprisoned if he objected.
If she has been teaching for 12 years, surely resources can be used in subsequent years. Why isn’t Engish taught in the Islands before people come here? Pacific Island schools in the Islands should be bi-lingual too.
If the teachers have done all of this hard work with the resources then they should sell their work to the government and print the books off?
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/education/113433061/pasifika-teachers-painstakingly-make-course-materials-by-hand
Most countries in the world now teach English as well as their own language. Eg in Germany its compulsory.
I’m sorry but teaching languages such as Pacific Islands ones is basically useless, as they have no written culture and a very limited vocabulary.
They need to get into the real 21st century world!
Their languages will no doubt survive in the Islands, but are useless in NZ. She ain’t doing those kids any favours in the long run, but for an 18 grand pay rise- hell give me a pair of scissors!
She seems to be wanting the government to fund her hobby to desecrate publicly funded books. After all, she could just teach them English rather than pander to them.
More strikes, this one after only two days of negotiations?
https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/money/2019/06/care-workers-go-on-strike.html
Cindy said ” No strikes on my watch”. Yer right!
Must be strike no 73 by now! She also said she don’t “lie”!
Oh God I just saw a link on FB- It’s the Messiah Baby’s first birthday this week.
Anyone want to go bush with me for the week? And avoid all the Media gushing?? ‘A Nation Celebrates’ etc etc
Yup, the hagiography continues.
I was bemused with the idiot ‘journalist’ behind one of the articles (Stuffed) bemoaning about how Neve was been focussed on because she’s the prime minister’s daughter. Talk about ironic. If people like that idiot ignored Neve then there wouldn’t be such focus. Stupid is as stupid does.
The PM and partner push the baby to the forfront to take the heat of them selves!
“Child Abusers”, I say!
Me thinks squirrel is being used as a sacrificial goat to take the heat off the Mad Queens continual stuff ups.
I see Jethro the kept man is still hanging around to hoover up any scraps.
Hoover… How apt.
New knickname?
OH goody a birthday strike!
That’ll please Queen Big Ears!
A shame to disrupt the child if she is happy, but is this a consequence of Maori insisting on their children being essentially fostered out to Maori, as cultures are distinct. Apartheid coming to you in 2019. Where is the child best catered for?
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/113479211/samoan-couple-told-they-cant-be-permanent-foster-parents-to-pkeh-child
No longer Wally but Wallace Haumaha, is that a deliberate shift?
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/392153/muslim-leader-urges-special-training-for-police-to-handle-hate-crime
Maybe now “Wally” is more a description than a name.
Getting invited inside the tent!
Wallace… FFS. Next we will be calling Mike Bush, Michael.
Wait until you have to call the drunken dwarf, “Sir Drunken dwarf”
Talking NZFirst succession?
Who would be best for the country? Interesting that a ‘sign’ of future favour could come out of the reshuffle.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/113499486/the-man-who-could-be-kingmaker-shane-jones-in-pole-position-to-replace-winston-peters
I suspect Winston Peters has a zombie clause that will trump any succession plan. After all, he has stated he can do his job whilst asleep this year. It stands to reason that he could do the job dead.
Jones certainly has Peters’ bluster. He even skirts corruption similar to Peters. While I detest Peters, I will never claim he isn’t intelligent. Jones OTOH is a bit of a moron.
I’d collect them.
https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/world/2019/06/shop-s-attempt-to-shame-plastic-bag-users-backfires.html?__twitter_impression=true
Bloody oath, same here! I would get everyone.
Collectors items. Frame them. Show your grandkids, these were plastic bags!
There is a headline on Stuff: Melania Trump is no Jackie O.
Do they mean the Melania Trump is not a short-time First Lady of a President who, when not trying to start WWIII and obliterate the World, was plugged into whatever doxie was the flavour of that particular month?
Or maybe that Melania is not the type of First Lady that is simply a well dressed arm ornament brought out for public occasions?
Or even that Melania won’t go on to marry a rich old man after marrying a rich young man didn’t work out?
I admit I won’t be reading the story to find out.
Melania is her own person, what is it wilh people wanting or expecting others to be clones.
It is all a means for the caring, honest, Leftie media to attack Trump by harming his family. The media, across the world, is scum.
Interesting headline. Unexpected sentiment.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/opinion/113493549/why-jacindamania-might-have-been-a-rogue-poll
Labour pollster saying Colmar Brunton poll, that had worse results for Labour was wrong. Yeah, okay. Not.
That seems like a fair and balanced piece by Mike Williams, polling for the Labour Party and former Labour Party present. He even gets more space than current, non-Labour politicians to make his point.
How graceful of our corrupt, one eyed trouser snake of a media.
Is David Farrar a sulky poor loser, where YSB is concerned?
While, I don’t comment any more on KB, I do from time to time browse the content (the comments are no longer the most entertaining part of the blog as most of the fiesty, literate, informed commenters seemed to have migrated to YSB).
However, as I was scrolling through, his “Links” section caught my eye and I noticed that YSB is not included there!
Bearing in mind that this blog is now catching a fair volume of traffic and (seemingly) more than most of the other politically leaning blogs listed – it seems anomalous (there that was polite wasn’t it? that Farrar hasn’t added a fast-growing, free-speech blog to his list of links.
A little bit of sour grapes from Mr Farrar, looks like his slightly left of centre politics are mirrored by his subjective committment to supporting absolute free speech.
(Hilariously, when I just checked KB’s links, I noticed that one of the blogs Farrar links to “Your Say” had a promo for YSB – courtesy of the seemingly ubiquitous Rachael Membery – you go girl!)
PG asked me if I would post a link on his blog, and I said It would be better if he did it. Hence his post about YSB.
Thank you Pete for doing that. Free speech is too important for personalities to get in the way.
Sounded quite gracious, it seems a sad time to be calling it a day when there seems to be more need than ever.
I got the impression David Farrar is paranoid one of us is going to get him in trouble or something. Seems to take 2 hours for a comment to come through on KB. It is free speech or not? I haven’t been on there in a couple months. YSB is great- I only wish I had more time to bullshit with the good people on this blog! I have to eat, bathe, work, and spend some time with the family too lol
It would be interesting to know who was pushing him to change his blog, but will we ever know?
Someone must have had a big stick!
We may never know. Just as we won’t know who controls the media and why the Minister for Open Government had secret meetings with them, who arranged for the Chief of Police to front up to quell rumours, who paid off Ian Lees-Galloway to grant Stroubek residency and who is ensuring the youth camp sex assault trial is being delayed disproportionally.
I suspect that Farrar’s main customer
Labour LiteNational didn’t like the anti-Soimon tone that was coming through from comments and he was told to do something about it. Lord knows it’s not like we’ve seen anything from National this term that suggests that they’re supportive of free speech or their listening to their base.Excuses, excuses, excuses ……….
If he was receiving threats to his blog, DPF should have used Ed’s technique with the Fieldays bloke who ripped his sign off the fence, and told whoever gave him a scare to ‘stick his opinion where the sun doesn’t shine.’
But he did not out them in public on his blog, for everone to see!
He snuck around the back and closed down comenting!
That’s what I don’t understand. If anyone made any sort of threat to me, it would be on here soon as.
He does make his money polling for politicians though and is closely enmeshed in the political machine. I would imagine it is difficult for him, especially with a young family.
Fair do’s with a family to support. Still doesn’t condone the slippery snake in the grass who put the thumb screws on DPF to moderate free speech!
I would have thought KB was the National bell weather!
On any day you had instant poll results of what matters in NZ.
Whether it was politics, govt depts, and what the public is concerned about, on any day, it costs nothing!
But then what do I know?
Well if it hadn’t happened maybe Holysheet wouldn’t be having his turn, it is all about birth, renewal, death.
This free speech matter needs to be a many-headed hydra, as one is cut back then there needs to be a proliferation that appear.
Snowflakes are losers
So the NZ women have lost another game at the World Cup and now sit on the bottom of their group table
There is hope if they can put a cricket score on Cameroon in the final game, but laughably they’d have to qualify for the next round as one of the best losers.
But at least, while one of our national teams performs embarrassingly badly on the world stage, we can console ourselves that the coach won’t dare say anything negative to the poor little professional snowflakes. It doesn’t look like there is any upside to the team’s performance given the review on bullying and the hounding of the previous coach out of the country – could it have been that Andreas Heraf was right and the players prefer a “family, fun culture” to high standards?
Against Canada this morning, they certainly didn’t look like a team with high standards, it was like donkeys running around ‘eeyooring’ all over the place.
But they don’t have to worry, earlier this year they scored a historic diversity deal by gaining pay parity with the men.
Perfect example of how the application of theoretical ‘something for nothing’ socialism fails dismally when it crashes into reality.
Maybe I’m wrong and the football Ferns will lift the trophy proving how diversidy is liderally the best thing evah – but I think KiwiBuild succeeding is more likely.
Yes I saw some of the game live, and the Canadian girls had complete control, they just passed the ball between each other.
Why we have a Bookmarks page.
https://www.spectator.co.uk/2019/06/diversitys-valued-unless-its-diversity-of-opinion/amp/
I stole the link from Kiwiblog but don’t let that put you off.
In the words of Forrest Gump, “stupid is as stupid does”. When are we going to be free of these diversity idiots. Whatever happened to the right to earn a living, and showing goodwill for ALL mankind, including us ordinary folk?
“Valuing diversity”= record number of stabbings and murders in London. “Valuing diversity”= only white people who self-loathe are welcome in our society.
Singham, however, denies news reports that commissioner, Sir Anand Satyanand, fell asleep during witness testimonials.
“Look, I have to say that our record shows that he did not fall asleep. Having said that, we have to remember Sir Anand is an eminent New Zealander. He was the governor general. He was an ombudsman and a district court judge. All of these roles require careful listening skills.”
But journalist Aaron Smale who appeared beside Sammons on Newshub Nation said he had two accounts by survivors of Sir Anand falling asleep. He said the denial was unfair on survivors who had a history of not being believed.
https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/shows/2019/06/alone-in-a-room-with-no-support-abuse-survivor-slams-royal-commission.html
Not sure why he ranted on about the pensioner as the rant had nothing to do with the accusation.
Seems that Winston is not the only old person who gets well paid to sleep on the job. Wonder if Sir Michael Cullen did that as well?
Getting older I can tell you its very easy to fall to the temptation.
Edit works fine.
When you have finished your rant or whatever, refresh your browser, wait a second or 2 and the edit field is shown. You then have 7 minutes to edit your post.
I’m far too busy nursing the bruised fingertips for that sort of nonsense.

Is it any wonder that the media is so despised. Stuff deleting anything negative said about JA.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/parenting/113463696/the-important-legacy-of-prime-minister-jacinda-ardern-having-a-baby-while-in-office#comments
Wow! That is incredible- Every second freaking comment says ‘This comment has been deleted’
RIP Freedom of Speech in New Zealand!
*We all know Stuff are desperately hoping to be purchased by the Government- But that is so blatant it is just ridiculous
It’s all about how the narrative can be spun. It’s why government and local governments spend so much on spin doctors.
Same reason they stopped the uptick/downtick. It was very obvious how many conservative opinions and anti-JA voters were out there, and they just can’t accept that. The climate change columns ban disagreement. Pathetic little worms they are.
Of every second comment has been deleted as it is anti Adern then that is a lot of comments and a lot pissed off people. I’m happy about that.
Sounds 50/50 then?
Good God those comments are SO nauseating. Who are these people, are they really New Zealanders?
I didn’t go look but I am happy to take your word for it, from previous exposure.
Or are they bots churning out positivity? There is nothing saying the popularity of Jacinda has to be by real people.
Act Party relaunch to focus on Education:
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/96435946/act-party-launches-campaign-with-focus-on-education
They must have had a change of heart as I’m sure David Seymour said at the Act meeting last week that the relaunch would focus on freedom of speech. Perhaps I mis-heard and he said, ‘one of the things’?
You’ve always got to be careful with the Lamestream Media. If they’re fixated on a particular subject, they’ll ask so many questions so they can get the answer they want (the answer may or may not be related to the question posed).
Avi Yemini even caught one of them deliberately editing him as an example of this journalist work ethic:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odCQhAezB_Q
And they ask “what is going on down there” meaning in Christchurch, but show protests with Australian flags, obviously filmed in Aussie. Pack of lefty shits. Lefty msm are the scum, not the average Kiwi Joe.
Who’d a thought the media was crooked……….

Flat tax, flexible education fund: David Seymour rolls out new ACT policy platform
If ACT gets into power, New Zealand faces a flat tax, regulatory reform and a superannuation age hike.
Party leader David Seymour announced the plans at the party’s annual conference in Auckland on Sunday.
https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2019/06/flat-tax-flexible-education-fund-david-seymour-rolls-out-new-act-policy-platform.html?fbclid=IwAR0DCZgd6IA1nGammkungQSk9jRR2JRfcoTRBqLSzJW8miVL1c_gRS7_v80
Good video.
Perhaps the lofty aspirations were set after the party saw a 30 per cent increase in membership and “several thousand” in donations, during in past few months.
The ‘re-ACT’ conference opened with a video address from former leader, Richard Prebble, who launched straight into the party defending the “fundamental right” of free speech, lauded the leadership of Seymour and called for 14 MPs in the next election.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/113521522/more-colour-no-surprises-in-act-party-rebrand-but-hairy-goal-set-of-14-mps-at-next-election?cid=facebook.post&fbclid=IwAR0GyMTHYtw4gdzdQb_ZbmfE17nVKvLP3yzOUz6PfdAvJQWrbcHB-z7MujM
So people are joining up. Cool.
$20 minimum I believe.
Just signed up for ACT.
Worth looking at !!!!
I’m really pleased that ACT is also re-focussing on flat tax. My main reason for ACT is they seem to be the only party interested in protecting our freedoms.
A flat tax rate of 17.5% is a great bonus!
I’m not entirely sure how their education reform will work on the other hand. Still, it’s probably better that the rubbish that passes for education these days.
I’d pay attention if they went topless…
David Seymour? Possibly showed some chest on dancing with the stars?
You realise that the original “snowflake” were men stealing womans underwear.
They only came in white those days. Except for randy red!
Now that is just being greedy meth and fake bank notes?
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/113481166/three-patrol-cars-rammed-following-three-separate-police-pursuits-in-christchurch
Hahaha. Stuff has a “diversity” reporter? We are so screwed.
Man, Neighbourly is terrible. It started nicely for our community here, but I recall the great Fish and Chips incident of 2016. Never again.
Why is it not the government’s fault, it is on their watch. I assume that none were semi-automatics or it would have been boldened and headlined.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/113025353/increase-in-firearmrelated-homicides-enormously-concerning
Superintendent Jill Rogers …..
… “increase in volume of firearms that are in the community illegally” …
“But we [police] would encourage people to please have trust in us. We need to get these firearms out of the community.” …
…. “This behaviour that this small number of people are willing to carry out, will not stop, until we remove these firearms from the community,” she said.
So the guns are not legally possessed by firearm licensed
holders.
It would seem the legality of acquiring a firearm would be quite illegal, like through burglary, and that which the police often do not even bother to attend or after so many days to look for leads.
Then there is intimidation, smuggling, etc.
“It isn’t gay love, it isn’t natural, it isn’t acceptable in the eyes of the Lord, it isn’t a right……it’s sodomy”, thundered the priest from the pulpit.
“And it isn’t my turn this week”, yelled an altar boy from the back of the church.
Welcome aboard o’feathered one. But I agree. Unless the New Conservatives can pull one out of the hat we’re heading for Bishop Brian as the only religious lunatic & party leader for the 2020 election promising gays an eternity of immersion in a burning lake of shit. Mind you rumours of Israel Folau standing for God & apple pie can’t be dismissed lightly & Colin Craig must be due for a come back.
Something that will drive the more delicate petals of the Left gibbering incoherently into the bush for a month or two would be welcome. 🙂
Helen?
Why aren’t the current government’s policies to blame for worsening stats?

Stop talking to yourself Kea. It is definitely a sign of madness or serious old age.
Kea in captivity have been known to live to 50 years of age V2 though the median is much lower. Mostly because the dozy buggers, eat lead flashings, attack lambs & rave out of control on internet forums about evil “Joos”. 🙂
One ting is for sure it’s never going to be boring! I thank you!
Just a warning Kea, You can only have one persona on here. No other kea like identies please.
Love it.
Now you two, play nice. I am not as dumb as you might think when it comes to ip numbers
Just a quick hello. Got a little frustrated at kiwiblog today with the lengthy moderation and the “smacks” for my persistent habit or referring to ardern as a less than honest person. This was my post today which got me “sorted” by the mods… and a few snowflakes. Apologies for the length…
“And yet we have been seeing a restriction of free speech right here on the blog and quite a few have made statements in favour of that.
A moderation process has been implemented but not to stop foul language but to weed out statements that may offend our political masters.
The excuse has been given that this is to avoid litigation and that I think is the point that David Seymour is trying to make, restriction of ordinary speech because “someone” doesn’t like it.
This week we have seen the headlines laughingly referring to the “Schnapps Election”. This headline alludes to the opinion that Sir Robert Muldoon was pissed when he called the election. Those of us that saw that clip on the “telly” at the time would almost certainly agree, but… others may not and see it as a slur against a man who cannot respond.
We regularly see comments on this blog referring to “what’s in it for wynston” being pissed, probably correct. My “tag” for him is also allowed, possibly because we are well aware that the “tag” probably describes him accurately.
And yet, we have mods that baulk at references to ardern being a liar, jimmy having 2 mums and “golly”.
None of those epithets are going to incite anyone to violence and at no time have I or any other commenter on this site ever suggested that either. But, they are banned…. why?
I have had other commenters tell me that using those phrases is childish.. do I now need a safe space?
I just want a clear understanding and explanation about what the hell is going on.
And yes, I know it is David’s blog and he gets to set the rules and I am grateful for the opportunity to comment on this blog but, what is the difference between the rules now in place regarding political/personal comments and those that David Seymour seeks to have either removed or not implemented?”
You can do both or as many other ones as stick around.
By saying Cindy is a liar is not anything to be moderated for. You are welcome to say the truth as often as you like here. I will now say it again. Jacinda Adern is a bald face liar. I think everyone on this blog should come out and say the same.
…..”Nanny Ogg had a pragmatic attitude to the truth; she told it if it was convenient and she couldn’t be bothered to make up something more interesting.”…….
A quote from the works of Terry Pratchett. I wonder what he would have made of PriNZess.
Tallman, welcome to sanity at YSB. I’m not offended by anything you wrote and can’t understand why the moderators removed it from KB. As for Cindy, she can’t lie straight in bed.
She does have a mean resting bitch face and a pretty bad pissed off one as well!
Jacinda Ardern is a liar. Her first lie was that there wouldn’t be lies under her government. And it got worse from there onwards.
BTW Tallman, just come comment here. There’s already comments by 8am on a Sunday and I have a vague suspicion there hasn’t even been a reported comment, or has there Mr Editor?
No serious comment has been reported.
There was some playing with the report button in the beginning
Thanks for the thoughts.
The main issue with kiwiblog is the delay so the comments/replies get all out of kilter and it just become too hard to actually work a thread. Removing the words “ardern is a liar” or references to the “fisherman” are just childish imho.
I find it very difficult to contain my contempt for her and her supporters to be honest.
Cheers
Meghan Markle being berated for not attending D-Day or Trump. But not our Jacinda for D-Day.

What a gorgeous Sunday. Up at sparrows’ fart to prepare the pork shoulder, built a snake with some hickory smoke and slow roasted it from about 6am through to mid afternoon, when it got nicely wrapped up to rest for a few hours. And discovered making apple sauce is a lot simpler than I thought! It’s good when there ‘s a day with no work, just the smell of smoke from the braai, a beer and a good book. And with Mana Bear working and running open homes and the kids out to visit their mom it was a quiet day as well with just me and the dogs at home. Thank you for days like that, New Zealand. Reminds me of what makes it all so special.
