I live in Upper Hutt and Hipkins is my electorate MP.
I was out at a cafe with the family a few years ago and Chippy, his Mrs and baby child plus someone who thought was the au pair came in and sat at another table. I thought how plastic and performative he was at the time. I just ignored him and have whenever I pass him in public. I think he lives local as I saw him walking around a couple months back. The ex’s comments just make me think he’s a typical sociopath politician. Parliament is full of them. We should never vote for them as they will just say what we want to hear and do what ever they want.

Im old enough to remember the Iraqi-Iranian war of the 1980’s. Tankers got shot back then too, but the world didn’t collapse and prices settled into risk based value. What we have at the moment is that insurance firms (mainly London based) refusing to underwrite any ships going through the straits of Hormuz. From what I have seen, most if not all the ships hit so far by the Iranians have been hit outside the straits including all the way by Kuwait. International shipping locators show many are parked up either side of the straits. They make easy targets just sitting there.

years ago one of my dairy farm bosses BIL on the coast had an exploration company drill for oil on his farm, they found the stuff pretty easily but i guess like most oil and gas prospects in and around nz they arent economically viable to warrant the huge capital outlay to develop.

There were stories about some of the internal pipes being filled with concrete. I have seen no evidence of this and I have spent a fair bit of time down there. I think Trump is not just setting up a withdrawal from NATO, I think he is setting up a withdrawal of our military presence around the globe, and will eventually begin the process of consolidating US MIL presence to the Western Hemisphere, once we are done with Iran and the war in Ukraine is over.
I think the end goal is normalized relations with Russia and China, and thus the permanent end to the Cold War that never really ended. This is only possible by removing US military presence off of China and Russia’s doorstep, as well as ending Russian/Chinese meddling in our hemisphere, via places like Venezuela and Cuba, which is already happening.
What if the US, Russia, and China, just agreed to stop the espionage, weapons of mass destruction, proxy wars, and meddling in each other’s regions? What if the superpowers were on the same side instead of against each other?

While my preference is for the Left never to get its grubby, incompetent hands on the levers of power ever again I retain sufficient sanity to realise that a Labour lead government is inevitable sooner or later.
It is for that reason that I endorse McAnulty as Labour leader. Yes, he comes across as arrogant & yes, he’s an unscrupulous arsehole.
