  1. FS this is premium Herald content. A 25-year old with debts can’t buy a house. Grow up you entitled cup cake. They didn’t give houses away when we were toddlers either.

Hawke’s Bay house prices: ‘Rent for the rest of my life?
Based on some personal debts, the Wellington-born man said “no bank wants to know me” when it comes to a home loan.
The 25-year-old and his partner are both in full-time employment, and have saved tens of thousands in their KiwiSaver. They have also had an $8000 Kainga Ora grant approved, however, it still isn’t enough.

  2. In my youth (OK so I am in my later years and I accept that) most friends who were saving for a house had two jobs, the weekend one either serving at weddings, at bottle stores, in bars or cleaning jobs etc. So these poor cupcakes are pathetic petulant kids who have been used to getting everything for nothing and expect nothing less for themselves. What the hell have we all become?

    • Yep or doing real hard work for 12 hour days 6 days a week.
Didn’t have a car, bikes were fashionable then, a phone, a tv even,
Sat on beer crates no big comfy wrap around furniture.
Second hand table and chairs. No carpet nor any heaters,
fuck I get sick of hearing whingers whinge.

Didn’t go the uni and rack up a student loan. Paid for everything as we went or went without.
No oversea’s trips, just stood and watched the Flying boats leave from Evans Bay.

      • It wasn’t easy but it was made harder by punitive tax rates (mine was marginally 66cents on the last $1 from overtime & my second job.) 23% interest on the second mortgage wasn’t helpful either.

        20

        0

        • You had it easy. Our second mortgage was fixed at 14%. It was the first mortgage that got up to 23% that was the killer. Can you imagine if that happened today what the house prices would be?

      • I dont call ‘no TV’ a hardship.
        Jeez.

        Put it in perspective-
        – Uni was fees free until about 1992 – Mother of all budgets
-Beer crates -a luxury. We had carboard boxes. Which doubled as a record valise.
-Pay as you went. The first credit card came to NZ in 1979 so it was the only real way.

    • My kids are pretty good kids (both now in their 40’s). They never had to go without when they were growing up. My wife and I however remember how hard it was for our parents and we did without. Hand me down clothes were the norm and cheap chicken “backs”, the part of the chicken left over after you cut off all the good bits.

So our good kids have a skewed view of life and their expectations. It’s all our fault for providing so well for them.

  3. Ok, every time there’s a crisis, Jazz Hands is front and center dishing out hugs and kindness. Except now that the Waikato DHB hacking has been declared a crisis, she’s nowhere to be seen. Why would that be?

    20

    0

    • Because its a real crisis due to her govts neglect and not some deliberatly manufactured crisis like housing. Real lives are at risk not just a bigger mortage.

I heard a few calls for andrew littles scalp yesterday, fingers crossed someone gets rolled for it.

I bet more wedding details come out in the next few days.

      20

    • The problem is deeper as the hackers are spreading hacking points further into employees, and as I noted the other day, to patients.

I was benignly asked in the ‘subject line’to take part in a survery on my “medical centre” in the past week, but I wondered why this had my e-mail address, and also considered that even if the medical centre had it, then they should not have passed it on, so I did not open it.

The other day I went into the medical centre and asked them about the “survey”.
They did not know anything about it, and a number of the clerical staff gathered, and also then told me not to open it, delete it, and have it totally removed from my computer.

So far I have heard nothing publicly about this form of contact, that may be infecting many more patient computers.

Years ago I recall that when other friends computers became infected, that then activated to send to me, that incorporated a scam.
That happened, once locally, and from another friend from overseas.
However these days these things can be much more serious.

      • As I write this, we are entering the second week of the terrifying cyberattack involving ransomware on the Waikato District Health Board’s IT Infrastructure.

To put this in perspective the deeply sensitive, private (let alone potentially humiliating) and personal medical records, data and patient files hacked in this malevolent assault on the people of New Zealand, on over 430 thousand New Zealanders, is at risk of being monetised, exploited and marketed on the dark net.

This government has let this happen.

        Series of cyber disasters

If you tuned into Parliament TV for the General Debate in the last month, you may have noticed that I have been talking extensively about my concerns for our digital borders and the impact that cyber-attacks, malware, scams and spam have had on our country already in the past year.

We saw the confidence shock in our financial institutions with the incidents at the NZX and the Reserve Bank and we’ve had a near unprecedented incident of a Crown Entity, the Health Research Council of New Zealand, being unable to adhere to their democratically mandated duty to report to the House for their Annual Review scrutiny due to the loss of data that took place.

I have begged the government to uplift cybersecurity spending to proportionately match Australia’s $1.6 billion investment into cyber resilience and give Parliament greater insight into the sector.

        Government indifferent

        They have listened.

In Budget 2021, cyber spending is scattered across portfolios. In particular, Vote Business, Science and Innovation, Vote Internal Affairs and Vote Prime Minister and Cabinet (Some may also sit within the Communications Security & Intelligence (GCSB) Vote but we do not get to know what publicly).

When I looked at these votes and the funding being provided, I saw no uplifts and, if anything, a significant decrease in support for Government Digital Services and cyber support.

In particular, the reduction from $55million to $44 million for Government Digital Services on the basis their ‘payroll’ systems were now sorted was ludicrous, particularly when I saw that Waikato DHB staff were having strife with their pay.

There is no true ‘All of Government’ approach to cybersecurity and that needs to change.

A draft report Commissioned by the Broadcasting Minister into the merger of RNZ and TVNZ cost the public nearly $400,000 dispite it containing a lot of public available information, Kris Faafoi
hired PwC to produce a 100 page business case into the public media merger.
This from a Minister that most thought was doing a great job and setting a good impression of what is expected of a Government Minister especially after taking the reins of the immigration folder after Iian Lee’s Galloways resignation after taken his lover one Government trip overseas when doing Government business.

Sure says the bartender, we’ve got a nice roast beef dinner with all the trimmings, really popular, folk travel miles for these,it’s prime beef cooked to perfection, all the traditional trimmings, roast potatoes, mash, home grown veg, broccoli, carrots, peas, asparagus, and of course huge Yorkshire puddings, cranberry sauce, and delicious home made gravy, quality mustards and condiments.
Blimey says the rep, well impressed,”sounds great, how much is it?

“The same as I’m doing downstairs to his business!! the bartender replied.

Common side effects of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine being rolled out in New Zealand include pain or swelling at the site of the injection, headaches, fatigue, muscle aches, chills, fever, joint pain and nausea.

The Pfizer vaccine has proven to be one of the safest rolled out to date, with the only life-threatening side effect detected to date incredibly rare cases of treatable anaphylaxis – about 2 to 5 cases per million doses.

  8. In Conclusion

Simply put: there is overwhelming evidence that the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein [that is also synthetically produced by the Covid vaccines] is a central part of the mechanisms of morbidity and mortality of SARS-CoV-2, and therefore is also a risk of the vaccine. In regard to clotting, that risk is greater if you receive a vaccine.

The data clearly demonstrate that the last thing you would ever want to do is make a vaccine that produces a spike protein. As the literature clearly showed, it would cause significant damage, including brain clots and death. And that literature, for the most part was available before the release of Covid vaccines to the public.

  9. Quote for the day:

“It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong.”
    Thomas Sowell

    • Indeed.

The smart man believes that he can pay a “professional” to make the decisions for him, based on the assumption that a professional will always do a better job than he can.

The smarter man thinks critically for himself, asking questions along the lines of Sowell’s quote.

    • I went to Waikato Hospital this morning for surgery just under a local anaesthetic and they have no working computers, everything has shut down. The staff are run ragged with all the photocopying and writing up everything from notes to the very many labels that go with any hospital admission, there are no records on line to go with operations that they are supposed to do, then the discharge notes then they have to photocopy everything 4 times. It’s worse than a third world hospital within a country who have not even heard of a computer service. The nurses and surgeon were magnificent to say the least, but honestly its absolutely ridiculous how they are supposed to operate a hospital without the modern services we have come to expect in 2021. It is frightening how incompetent this government and their ministers are. It’s no longer 3rd world countries we are sliding toward, but we are already there now, and I have to ask is this the plan the government have as they seemingly are a tribe of socialists? Are the government enjoying this breakdown of our hospital system. Is this all part of the plan?

      • No disaster recovery plan.
This should be in a charter.

It would appear they may not have working backups.

One of the processes in doing backups is to periodically – about 2 monthly – do a full recovery and ensure you have an operational system from recovery.
This means some redundant gear but the alternative is this.

Plus having father/grandfather backup tapes or maybe that was too sexist for the fecking petals
        Ie multiple generation of backups.

With the low cost of electronic data storage this is so much easier than 30 years ago with magnetic tapes.

A sidebar. If all your storage is on a google, amazon or microsoft service then they effectively own the data, not you.
People saw this with Kim dotcom when the servers were possessed.
If the data is worth something – or has value to a ransom-holder – then it is worth ensuring it is replicated in an accessible secure place.

  12. US now claiming to have vaccinated half of their adult population, around 129 million people.
Reports to the Vaers database of adverse reactions to 14th May lists 227,805. My calculator tells me that is 1.76% of those vaccinated.
Of course there is no way that all adverse reactions are reported with the medical profession riding shotgun, so the true figure will be much higher. Doesn’t really look like the vaccines are safe in the short term from where I sit. What will happen in the long term I shudder to think.
Doesn’t stop Cindy from saying that she is going to prove that it is safe in both the short and the long term by rolling up her sleeve and publicly taking the shot. She knows something that no one else knows?

FIFO = first in first out.
FOMO = fear of missing out.
FOGO = fear of getting out.
FOLA = fear of losing all.

With speculative bubbles, it seems like: FIFO -> FOMO -> FOGO -> FOLA

According to a promotional video posted on social media on Wednesday night, 60 Minutes Australia will on Sunday broadcast a story about New Zealand’s ties to China, which have come under intense scrutiny this year as other nations have stepped up their rhetoric towards the Asian powerhouse.

The episode will air across the Tasman on the same day Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison arrives in New Zealand for a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

The commercial, which features a dramatically deep voiceover and the type of background music normally found in action film trailers, begins with journalist Tom Steinfort asking Ardern if “you sometimes have to bite your tongue upsetting the regime in Beijing”, to which she bluntly answers, “no”.

  22. Public told to only visit Royal Bolton A&E if “absolutely necessary” due to being full of “fully vaccinated Covid patients”

Bolton has the highest infection rates in the country, with more than 1,200 positive tests in the week ending May 20 adding up to a transmission rate of 450.7 cases per 100,000 people. In comparison, the average for England is just 22.4 cases per 100,000. But don’t forget these are nothing but positive test results using a high cycle PCR test that should never be used to test for viruses.
This rise in cases has been driven by the allegedly more transmissible B.1.617.2 strain of the virus, often called the “Indian variant.” The same variant that the Indian Government said does not exist in a cease and desist sent to Social Media Companies.

Greater Manchester health leaders have confirmed that the majority of Covid patients within the hospital have had the experimental Covid vaccine.

  28. Do you reckon this type of bs will happen here? Affirmative.

Police say racist and threatening messages sent to nearly every black student at the school started a panic.

But now that an investigation has found a black student was responsible, it turns out no criminal charges will be filed.

  29. Did anyone else listen to Barry Soper and squeeze around 5pm.
Soper played a recording he had been leaked of an address given to a teacher meeting where they were being indoctrinated with marxist BS including recognising ‘white privilege’.
He gave the name of the woman giving the address so I hope she gets exposed.

  30. Regular readers of this forum will know of the utter contempt I have for the power crazed fools who run the NZTA or “Waka Kotahi” as the woke wankers prefer to be known as. My scorn has only increased since our trip to Palmerston North yesterday which included a crossing of the “Saddle Road”.

To call the Saddle Road a “road” is abject flattery. It is a goat track which winds its way over the Ruahines slightly to the north of the now closed Manawatu gorge route. Closed because of spurious “safety” concerns in 2017 despite this video showing a slip which could be cleared by two diggers & six trucks in two days!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcXCzNjezrM

In this golden age of safety we’re stuck with the Saddle route until the new road is finished. This miracle (//) of basic road-making has just started & with the co-operation of local Taniwha will be completed in about four years time. As expected the temporary detour is cracking up & recently the idiots of the NZTA decided in their wisdom to close the route for six hours a day for about six weeks for resealing.

The resealing is possibly the most shoddy, substandard 2.5km of bitumen that has ever been laid in NZ. What the fuck the contractors did during the 180+ hours of interruption to the lives of motorists is beyond me.

Waka Kotahi are a pox on society. They need to be held to account for their incompetence & arrogance.

    • Waka Kotahi translated: Utter Cunts.
Used to travel over the Saddle as a young
fella nasska. That was in the 70’s.
Roads were built properly then. The Saddle was
always winding, but as I recall, in good nick.

      • The Saddle was reasonably maintained but it was only ever a local road pressed into service when the Gorge was closed. It’s hellaciously steep & the Ford D2418 with a 180hp Perkins I drove only just made it with 32 ton all up. Nowadays most of the line haul, stock & logging trucks have north of 650hp & they near enough wind the road up on the corners.

It’s like using a topdressing airstrip to land jumbo jets!

  31. 15 State Treasurers Warn They Will Pull Assets From Banks That Obstruct the Fossil Fuel Industry

Fifteen Republican State Treasurers sent a warning that they will pull assets from financial institutions if they give in to Federal pressure to de-carbonize and “refuse to lend to or invest in” the fossil fuel and coal industry.

The letter (pdf), led by West Virginia Treasurer Riley Moore, is directed at Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry. It expresses concerns over reports that Kerry and other members of the Biden administration have been “privately pressuring” U.S. banks to stifle the fossil fuel industry.

“We are writing today to express our deep concern with recent reports that you, and other members of the Biden Administration, are privately pressuring U.S. banks and financial institutions to refuse to lend to or invest in coal, oil, and natural gas companies

“As the chief financial officers of our respective states, we entrust banks and financial institutions with billions of our taxpayers’ dollars. It is only logical that we will give significant weight to the fact that an institution engaged in tactics that will harm the people whose money they are handling before entering into or extending any contract,” they warned

Lets hope the nail one of them. Teach the pricks a lesson.

  33. Dame Cindy Kiro was born of a Maori mother and a North England father. Kiro doesn’t sound like an English name. I wonder if she changed her name to make herself seem more Maori?
Her husband is a Dr. Richard Davis, but I can’t find any photos of them both together.

Japan Ends Coronavirus Emergency With 850 Deaths and No Lockdown

Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has announced the end of his state of emergency declaration for the novel coronavirus pandemic, with just 851 deaths reported and without ever implementing a lockdown.

It’s unclear why Japan has a relatively low infection rate and a comparatively small number of deaths due to COVID-19. Abe has faced criticism for taking little action to curb the virus’ spread as many other nations implemented stringent lockdowns.
