  2. I am just a small town South Island country boy but am noticing a lot more people are waving their phones at the Covid thing and more notices about it outside shops here in the North Island. We were camped at a small camping ground, Ashhurst, and a youngish woman walking a dog by herself signed in after using the toilet.
    The logical conclusion is that should someone come in from overseas and wander around with it and was to say they had been here and there all these good people would be willing to be tested and then self isolate for 10 days.

  6. Every now and then i go for a scroll through trademe jobs, had a nosey last night and noticed a heap of dhb positions of all sorts on my region. Usually theres one maybe two listed but this time theres was heaps and all highlighted as “listed today”,  anyways i typed “dhb” into trademe jobs and was quite suprised at the amount of search results (1100+) and the majority listed in the last week or so.

    Has money finally trickled through to somewhere in real need or have a shit ton of our medical staff had enough and quit?

    “Disgusted” is the word he uses. “My business is finished. You can’t run a business if you can’t get the workers. And that’s a problem this Government just isn’t interested in.”

    Of his roughly 26ha of productive land, Heap has sold about a fifth (the sale is now unconditional and settles later this month), and he’s in the process of sowing the remainder in grass to run as a lifestyle block with a few dozen head of cattle.

    Heap is 78 and had hoped to pass the business to his son, now in his 40s, a mechanic, who’s been working with him since roughly 2016.

    “Instead, he’s just finishing his last week,” Heap says. “I’ve had to make him redundant.”

    In recent years, Heap’s spring courgette crop has topped 400 tonnes, making him one of the country’s most significant growers of the vegetable.

    He’d expected to rely on about 11 Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) scheme workers from Thailand, but that changed when New Zealand closed its borders in March.

    When the labour-intensive harvest rolled around in September and October, Heap says he simply had “no hope” of getting experienced workers familiar with the arduous work.

    “The few RSEs who were here didn’t have the experience I needed and hiring local workers has just been chaos. It was a shambles.”

    Heap says he had a young woman who turned up to work with a boyfriend who followed her around the field all day: “He couldn’t keep his hands off her, I wasn’t employing him, he just showed up. I had to ask him to leave.”

    He had a teenage boy so nervous and aggressive he couldn’t accept simple picking instructions without tensing for a physical fight: “It turned out he came from a lot of violence at home, no dad, and an uncle who was beating him.”

    Heap says he had workers who left without notice; workers who failed to turn up; and workers who tried the tiring, repetitive job of walking, stooping and cutting for a few hours only to call it quits.

    All up he says he employed close to 50 pickers in the season, and he still lost about 20 per cent of his crop because of the shortage of productive workers.

    In November and again in the new year, Heap says he contacted the local constituency office of his Northland MP, Willow-Jean Prime, looking for help. “That was the last straw,” he says, “I never even got a response.”

    • I’ve just flown Auckland-Brisbane and back and both Auckland and Brisbane overseas terminals were absolutely deserted. Empty. Vast glittering areas of lights and polished floors with less than half the shops open. I have pictures on my phone and they’re ghostly and unreal.

      I can’t see how international travel will recover from this madness. Even worse, those few travellers who are allowed out of their home detention are compelled to be muzzled and they can be seen wandering around with their frightened zombie-like eyes peering over their masks. In Brisbane the public address system was repeatedly announcing – like Big Brother – that masks must be worn, even though there was almost nobody there.

      The infrastructure still exists because it has already been built; but there won’t be any new development of aircraft or facilities in the future and the whole industry will fade away and die. It’s already happening.

      • I read a detailed investment report on AIA- Auckland International Airport- in 2019.
        It was basically projecting that by 2040 it would be 2.5 times more people volume than 2018.

        Two and half times.
        Within 12 months that looked a hairy projection.
        However, the AIA share price is holding at present.

        What was interesting was they were predicting large revenue from car parking which is already a good revenue spinner.
        They don’t want a tram from the central city but it will not affect them much as it would be basically for backpackers – so Auckland ratepayers would subsidise cheap arze backpackers.
        At present these people – although not happening in 2021 – have used the Airporter Bus which has run for over 15 years down the very Dominion Road they intend to cannibalize.
        Business people would still use taxi and uber.

        Similar to Brisbane. I used the BNE train service about 20 years ago to get to central city.
        It was for a 3 days training session starting about 9am. I did not need a vehicle while there.
        I got dropped off for the return trip.
        The 95% of Aucklanders that will not be serviced by a tram will do what they have always done.

        Why the retarded fools want a tram down an already busy thoroughfare instead of extending the rail line 3 km from where it is and having a better capture area I guess lies with every other retarded thing they do.

        • In more populated countries the domestic airports/terminals are still operating at some sort of level due to domestic travel not being quite so fucked as international. The Sunshine Coast, for example, was buzzing.

          But here with a tiny population and our tourism previously dependent on overseas tourists paying inflated prices to see tribal war dances or jump off a bridge, I think domestic travel is going to be in trouble for a long time to come.

    It is a sutra-genre text with terse aphoristic verses that have survived into the modern era with different bhāṣyas (exposition and commentaries). The text is a mix of prose and anustubh-meter poetry verses. The text acknowledges the Hindu concept of Purusharthas, and lists desire, sexuality, and emotional fulfillment as one of the proper goals of life. Its chapters discuss methods for courtship, training in the arts to be socially engaging, finding a partner, flirting, maintaining power in a married life, when and how to commit adultery, sexual positions, and other topics. The majority of the book is about the philosophy and theory of love, what triggers desire, what sustains it, and how and when it is good or bad.

    The text is one of many Indian texts on Kama Shastra. It is a much-translated work in Indian and non-Indian languages. The Kamasutra has influenced many secondary texts that followed after the 4th-century CE, as well as the Indian arts as exemplified by the pervasive presence Kama-related reliefs and sculpture in old Hindu temples. Of these, the Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh is a UNESCO world heritage site. Among the surviving temples in north India, one in Rajasthan sculpts all the major chapters and sexual positions to illustrate the Kamasutra.

    According to Wendy Doniger, the Kamasutra became “one of the most pirated books in English language” soon after it was published in 1883 by Richard Burton. This first European edition by Burton does not faithfully reflect much in the Kamasutra because he revised the collaborative translation by Bhagavanlal Indrajit and Shivaram Parashuram Bhide with Forster Arbuthnot to suit 19th-century Victorian tastes.

    The NZ National Party could learn from this. The progressive/ left mainstream media is freedom’s greatest enemy, and the US Republican party may at last be understanding the need to fight them with more vigour than they fight the Democrat Party. A Repub PAC group is running an ad targeting CNN. The National Party should also wake up to the fact that the real Labour party in NZ is the media who daily protect and run interference for Jacinda and her comrades. All the Nats need to do is substitute any media outlet in NZ for CNN, and they’ve got their localised version of the same ad.

      One of the reasons I like posting James O’Keefe of Project Veritas, that takes on & exposing CNN policies.

      • Dr Shiva will win his case easily and I have great hopes for the others.
        I don’t think any of our ‘people of influence’ have a spine, or the inclination to go against the propagandistic narrative, for whatever reason.
        The lone voices are not gaining the impetus they need to crack the facade.
        We need another Winston, who is not Winston. Someone with charisma.

    Dear Editor

    I have never in my 72 years seen a Prime Minister such as Jacinda Ardern. This is the same lady who famously said, “I will govern for all New Zealanders,” a statement about bringing the country together.

    Now she has set about dividing the country in a racial way.

    I won’t go on about all the promises made and how she has never been asked to explain why they haven’t fulfilled them.

    Now with Grant Robertson, she is giving people money when they get work. They then quit the job $5,000 better off after not working a week and our country goes further into debt.

    She is always saying that this government will be transparent. I wonder if she can even spell the word? This government is the most underhanded I have ever seen in my lifetime.

    My grandfather stood for Taranaki many years ago and I have been very loyal but she has just lost my loyalty. I won’t start on the white privilege she’s starting in schools. Apart from telling lies is she also too blind to see that there are many underprivileged whites as well?

    Good luck to National and ACT as I will certainly be voting for one of you as it takes more than a mouthful of teeth to run a country.
