I know that cattle put on feed lots that started in the USA, are eating very enriched feed, so much so I understand that some of them develop ulcers, from the gut, that can infect the animal while fattening..
This can show up as E-Coli and Salmonella, when they are butchered, so the ammoniun hydroxide would be one way of alleviating that problem.
It is getting to a stage where NZ seems to be accepting the world’s standards on where we actually accept meats into our supermarkets, like from Finland, Spain, the USA, which one can easily enough read.
