FWIW, South of Hamilton it’s currently -3 degrees; sunrise always seems to result in a 1-2 Dg. temperature drop.

BUT, it’s going to be a beautiful ‘Clear Sky’ day here in the sunny Waikato.; just don’t slip on the ice…

        • I was looking at my adblocker the other day.
          Nice and clean on YSB
The fruityblog* is over 40 ads on the homepage and over 30 in an article.
          That is a lot .
          And he has patreon.

Stuffed can be over 90 on an article. That smashes bashes and can crash your browser .

YouTube usually about 4 to 6.
Basset Brash seem to have one per page.

If you want a chip in Ed let us know.

*Fruityblog for new comers is the left wing blog run by a Trump deranged, beady eyed, bald bitch from the swamp of Wellington who has been part of the campaign for the last 10 years to turn Notional into a plate of mashed potato. With fruit on top!

  1. OH Dear.
Finlayson spels it out for the Nats.

Former National minister Chris Finlayson has lashed the current National Party as a disaster, placing the blame squarely on the leadership – both in Parliament and the wider party organisation.

He says the party leadership “deserve everything that’s come to them” after self-inflicted “brand destruction” over the past couple of years.

    Will Goodfellow piss off?

      • Goodfellow is a haughty looking prick and the National Party under his stewardship is clearly not working or even competent at this stage. Time to stand down. Don’t let the door hit you on your shiny arse on the way out. That’s a good fellow.

          • Well to be fair, and I intensely dislike Turn coat, he did earn his own dough.
He had a shareholding in Ozemail where he made a decent sum on sale before the dotcom crash.
Plus he founded an investment banking firm then joined Goldman ballsacks as CEO for Australia .

Good(?) fellow is a trust fund kid to all intents and purposes.
He has never grown up .

There are some nasty stories about the marriage to his first wife esp at the end but hard to substantiate.
He then married the ex wife of Coromandel MP Scott Simpson .
She is Desley Simpson who is the Auckland Councillor for Oraki /Mission Bay area.
She is nonetheless very left leaning in her votes.
I think of her as Dizzy Desley .
Marama Davidson might describe her (and her husband) better with her special word !!

He was the only person I have ever come across who able to walk around looking full time into a hand mirror & carrying a comb whilst not walk into a closed door. A more slippery prick I have yet to find.

  3. Well the kids schools been closed the last 2 days, fuck knows why its just normal southland winter weather that happens many times this time of year.

Im absolutely blown away at how patheticaly risk averse this country has become. By this time next year schools will be closed when it rains so the poor things dont melt and karen dosent have to wait 20mins to drop them off 5m from the door.

Last year our kids were going to school with 150-200mm of snow on the ground, this year a scary forecast shut the schools for 2 days and we barely had 50mm of snow and the roads were clear and all open wtf???

  4. A question that needs answering regarding the hate law discussions that are hogging the headlines.
Has the Government or our Prime Minister silenced the Jounalists on One News Political section or has her two buddies Jessica Mutch and Mikey Sherman decided they don’t agree with the criticism that the Prime Minister is receiving on her New Hate Laws she intends to push through Parliament.
I ask this because One News online has not had a article on this since the 25th of June , while the media on a whole have condemned , criticized and generally poked fun at the Prime Ministers inability to answer Questions or even understand the law she is promoting.
    https://www.tvnz.co.nz/news/politics
It’s one thing to show your alliance to the Prime Minister over her time in charge but another to go silent on a subject that is wrong and archaic and divide New Zealander’s at the cost to the taxpayer that pay these Journalists wages.

  5. Except, threats of violence (Herald or RNZ) are already covered by existing legislation. And none of the prohibitions and controls Jacinda Ardern and other authoritarians are trying to impose on people would have done anything to stop the Christchurch Mosque attack.

And this fucks me off to no end:

Minister in charge of the GCSB and SIS Andrew Little would not confirm the SIS is involved in this case, but reiterated it has a mandate to gather intelligence on terrorist threats and white identity extremist violence.

Extremist violence comes in all colours, shapes and sizes. Enough with the bashing of white people, Angry Andy.

          • The legislation is fundamentally flawed, unnecessary and ill-defined.

But I’ve read it a few times and I don’t see insulting as being covered through it.

I guess the bit about “normalizing hatred” but is that enough?

It just goes to show how stupid this whole thing is. We can’t even clearly say whether something is illegal or not under it. That’s not the way to write legislation.

          • But let’s see what the Human Rights Commission has to say about Minister Little’s commentary.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have lodged an online complaint form during the period of Sunday 28th March to Friday 23rd April 2021 can you please re-submit it? Unfortunately, all online complaint forms lodged on our website were not received by our Infoline Team. Our IT providers are unable to provide any details of how many there were, or any content at all. Our apologies for this IT failure.

Rather amusingly, while filling in the Complaint I noticed this. Good job, Labour. Good job.

And I’ve emailed andrew.little@parliament.govt.nz, the Prime Minister and my local MP with details of this. Nothing will happen, but if we say nothing …

  6. Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert.

Government said “Someone may steal from it at night”. So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Government asked “How does the watchman do his job without instruction?” So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies.

Then Government said “How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?” So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people. One to do the studies and one to write the reports.

Then Government said “How are these people going to get paid?” So they created the following positions, a time keeper, and a payroll officer, then hired two people.

Then Government said “Who will be accountable for all of these people?” So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.

Then Government said “We have had this command in operation for one year and we are $48,000 over budget, we must cutback overall cost”. So they laid off the night watchman.

  7. Modelling from research centre Te Pūnaha Matatini indicates 83 per cent of New Zealanders will have to be vaccinated against less transmissable virus strains for measures like lockdowns and 14-day quarantine to be no longer needed.

This modelling from the same outfit that relied on Neil Fergusson discredited models and created false, incorrect models of their own. Unless there is an ulterior, political motivation (and there is), why is Shaun Hendy and his cohorts still given airtime?

National Hauora Coalition clinical director Dr Rawiri Jansen (Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Hinerangi) said border controls shouldn’t be lifted until the rollout was more equitable. … “Until vaccination rates in the order of 90 per cent of eligible Māori are achieved, opening of the borders would likely be catastrophic.”

Māori have more than equal access to vaccination and has been prioritized by race above clinical need. How the fuck do you make it more “equitable” than that, you racist prick?

    From here.

  8. https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2021/06/proposed-hate-speech-law-changes-a-total-cluster-judith-collins.html
Judith Collins says the proposed changes to hate speech laws are “a total cluster” and need to be scrapped

The National leader told The AM Show on Wednesday the Government has “no idea what it’s talking about”.

The proposals also include a new criminal offence in the Crimes Act for inciting violence against listed groups, and a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

Collins says the proposal threatens democracy, and is the Government being “opportunistic”.

  10. This was given to me to chear up my day !

    Observations from the snowman

    I Made A Snowman
    It snowed last night.
    8:00 am – I made a snowman.
8:10 am – A feminist passed by and asked me why I didn’t make a snow woman.
    8:15 am – So, I made a snow woman.
8:17 am – My feminist neighbour complained about the snow woman’s voluptuous chest saying it objectified snow women everywhere.
8:20 am – The gay couple living nearby threw a hissy fit and moaned it could have been two snow men instead.
8:22 am – The transgender man…women…person asked why I didn’t just make one snow person with detachable parts.
8:25 am – The vegans at the end of the lane complained about the carrot nose, as veggies are food and not to decorate snow figures with.
8:28 am – I was being called a racialist because the snow couple is white.
8:31 am – The Muslim gent across the road demanded the snow woman wear a burqa.
8:40 am – The Police arrived saying someone had been offended.
8:42 am – The feminist neighbour complained again that the broomstick of the snow woman needed to be removed because it depicted women in a domestic role.
8:43 am – The council equality officer arrived and threatened me with eviction.
8:45 am – TV news crew from BBC showed up. I was asked if I know the difference between snowmen and snow-women? I replied, “Snowballs” and am now called a sexist.
9:00 am – I was on the News as a suspected terrorist, racialist, homophobe sensibility offender, bent on stirring up trouble during difficult weather.
9:10 am – I was asked if I have any accomplices. My children were taken by social services.
9:29 am – Far left protesters offended by everything marched down the street demanding I be beheaded.
    Moral:
There is no moral to this story. It is what we have become!

  11. A funny thing happened when David Parker, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, wanted a fast $26.6 million to put cameras on commercial fishing boats.

The funds weren’t on hand but the cameras for catch surveillance were a Labour Party election promise and dear to the heart of Minister Parker, who is both Fisheries Minister and Minister for the Environment.

And as Environment Minister, Parker happens to have a bead on some ready money … from here.

Where do you think Labour has a slush fund stored for all their pet projects?

Hint – it is the same one our children and their children will be paying the debt for to keep Jacinda Ardern elected.

    • Back in the 80s when we did a big trip in a V8 for a couple of months we had the long drive From Chicago to Yellowstone.
It was over 2 days driving on the interstate 90.

The speed limit then was 55 mph from ‘da oil crisis’
Open road and all; we were doing 75+ mph.
A cop picked us on radar and stopped us.
      Gun drawn
Get out of the car, hands on bonnet and all.

We got a $40 fine. USD in 1980s.
The cop said ‘you have a month to pay this’ .
‘You are not leaving the State are you?’
      Us. ‘No Sir’

Two hours later we were out of the State, never went back and never paid.
      That was wishy washy Minnesota.
I’m kind of glad about that now.

        • ‘wishy washy Minnesota.’
          It was U the S and the A .

As much as one might dislike Dotcrim -and he is rather odious unless you are a bit ‘gangsta-techie’- his deeds were commercial and not criminal and I think this is an overreach to imprison and deport him for that.
He will end up with 80 years in prison, there will a bias and not a fair trial .
All on behalf of the Hollyweird scum.

When you compare it to the NZ situation where for example Mark dirtbag Bryers got 80 hours communidy service- which he never did – for his Blue Chip scam that cheated hundreds of NZers out of their savings in their last 25 years and no way to make it up, there is a benchmark.
Alan Hawkins and about 3 years jail.
The Chase Corporation scuz bags were burning down buildings in the 1980s when the owners would not sell.

A long convoluted discussion could follow but JohnKey was a coward that yielded to his sponsors in the US and had his wanky spectacular helicopters swoop in. What a dick.

  12. I recently picked a new GP.
After two visits and exhaustive Lab tests, he said I was doing ‘fairly well’ for my age (I’ve just reached seventy).
A little concerned about that comment, I couldn’t resist asking him,
“Do you think I’ll live to be 85?”
He asked, ‘Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer, wine or hard liquor?
‘Oh not much grog these days and don’t smoke’ I replied. ‘I’m not doing drugs, either!’
Then he asked, ‘Do you eat rib-eye steaks, fatty roasts and barbecued Ribs?’
‘I said, ‘Not much; my former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!’
‘Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, boating, sailing, surfing, hiking, or bicycling?’
    ‘No, I don’t,’ I said.
He asked, ‘Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lots of sex?’
    ‘No,’ I said…
He looked at me and said,.. ‘Then, why do you want to live to 85?’

Friends, family and ‘middle-aged white dudes’ blamed for spread of misinformation in NZ
    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2021/06/friends-family-and-middle-aged-white-dudes-blamed-for-spread-of-misinformation-in-nz.html

Half of all Kiwis believe in at least one piece of widely debunked misinformation, a new survey has found.

And that might be because many of us are more likely to trust information we get from friends and family than the news media.

The Chief Censor’s office surveyed more than 2300 Kiwis, and found one in five Kiwis believe in at least three high-profile examples of misinformation about topics including COVID-19, QAnon and even the Christchurch terror attack.

    • One Podium of Truth

It sounds like a new ministry will have to be established for what is to be a “Discourse Consensus” conversation, the new discussion & debate, over a cup of tea, where that decides WHICH TRUTH can be said on the “only podium of truth”.

That very important Ministry, will be known as the “Ministry of Truth” and will impart its knowledge to everyone.

That will remove dissension, strife, dissent & hatred, so no one can be blamed.
Not only will people accept “Big Brother”, they will come to LOVE him.

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears.
It was their final, most essential command.”

  25. Machines(A.I) already taking control.

Amazon is reportedly using algorithms to fire Flex delivery drivers.

Amazon’s contract Flex delivery driver fleet already has to deal with various indignities, and you can now add the fact that they can be hired — and fired — by algorithms, according to a Bloomberg report.
To ensure same-day and other deliveries arrive on time, Amazon uses millions of subcontracted drivers for its Flex delivery program, started in 2015. Drivers sign up via a smartphone app via which they can choose shifts, coordinate deliveries and report problems. The reliance on technology doesn’t end there, though, as they’re also monitored for performance and fired by algorithms with little human intervention.

However, the system can often fire workers seemingly without good cause, according to the report. One worker said her rating (ranging from Fantastic, Great, Fair, or At Risk) fell after she was forced to halt deliveries due to a nail in her tire. She succeeded in boosting it to Great over the next several weeks, but her account was eventually terminated for violating Amazon’s terms of service. She contested the firing, but the company wouldn’t reinstate her.

“Whenever there’s an issue, there’s no support. It’s you against the machine, so you don’t even try.”

The reports of sudden death and harm are becoming too hard to keep up with, especially in the last couple of weeks.”

  28. Government puts brakes on ‘insanity’ bill after Chief Justice intervenes

A private member’s bill replacing the verdict of “not guilty by reason of insanity” with “proven but insane” has been stalled after an 11th-hour intervention by Chief Justice Helen Winkelmann.

The sponsor of the bill, Taupō MP Louise Upston, says she is offended by the late intervention after the justice committee had worked hard on refining the bill and unanimously supported it.

Had it not been for the Chief Justice’s intervention, the Rights for Victims of Insane Offenders Bill would have passed its committee stages two weeks ago and would have been passed into law today.

      • Honourable Justice Helen Winkelmann

“Her Honour is recognised by her peers and the profession for her superior intellect, her judicial instinct and experience, coupled with strong leadership, qualities that I am sure will make an outstanding Chief Justice,” Jacinda Ardern said.
While judicial appointments are made by the Governor-General on the recommendation of the Attorney-General, the Senior Courts Act provides that the Prime Minister makes the recommendation for appointment of the Chief Justice.
There is no statutory process for the appointment. The Solicitor-General Una Jagose QC conducted a consultation process to inform the Prime Minister’s decision

          • I wish I knew. Just pointing out, not a lot of blokes in positions of power anymore.
The corridors of power and inluence have shifted so much now it’s like a new face pops out of the wood work, makes a shocker of a statement, and slinks back into the shadows, un-opposed.
It might just be the’ look at me’ syndrome infesting the country rearing it’s ugly head again.

      • ….”How can a judge interfere in this.
I thought the parliament was the highest court in the land?”…..

The Chief Justice’s role was set out in 2016. Partly described thus:

…..”Liaison between the Judiciary and other branches of government – The Chief Justice is the principal point of contact between the Executive Government and the Judiciary. In particular, the Chief Justice liaises with Government on policies or practices that impact upon judicial administration and the discharge of judicial responsibilities. “……

I suspect she informed parliament that there would never be a conviction because the Judges didn’t like it. The cloistered ones don’t like being told what to do. Witness the opposition to David Garrett’s three strikes legislation.

  30. The best analysis of NZ’s descent into ethno-nationalism that I’ve read.

With the sudden emergence into our political life of the revolutionary report He Puapua, it is clear New Zealanders are at a crossroads. We will have to decide whether we want our future to be that of an ethno-nationalist state or a democratic-nationalist one.

  32. WHO Stops Recommending Widespread COVID-19 Testing of Asymptomatic Cases
    By Meiling Lee
    June 29, 2021 Updated: June 29, 2021

In updated guidance on COVID-19 testing strategies, the World Health Organization (WHO) says it does not currently recommend widespread screening of people without symptoms, citing the cost of such a strategy and its ineffectiveness.

“Widespread testing of asymptomatic populations, including through self-testing, is not currently recommended, based on lack of evidence on impact and cost-effectiveness of such approaches and the concern that this approach risks diverting resources from higher priority testing indications,” the guidance stated.

  33. One night a guy takes his girlfriend home.
As they are about to kiss each other goodnight at the front door, the
guy starts feeling a little frisky.
With an air of confidence, he leans with his hand against the wall
and smiling, he says to her, “Honey, would you have sex with me?”
Horrified, she replies, “Are you mad? My parents will see us!”
“Oh come on! Who’s gonna see us at this hour?” he asks, grinning at her.
“No, please. Can you imagine if we get caught?”
“Oh come on! There’s nobody around, they’re all sleeping!”
“No way. It’s just too risky!”
“Oh please, please, I love you so much!”
“No, no, and no. I love you too, but I just can’t!”
    “Oh, yes you can. Please?”
    “No, no. I just can’t”
    “I’m begging you.”
Out of the blue, the light on the stairs goes on, and the girl’s
older sister shows up in her pyjamas, hair dishevelled, and in a
    sleepy voice, she says:
“Dad says to go ahead and have sex with him, or I can do it… or if
need be Mom says she can come down herself and do it.
    But for
heaven’s sake, tell him to take his hand off the intercom!”

Water reforms: New entities proposed to take responsibility of infrastructure

“Without this change, communities are going to either face very large bills for water services; or infrastructure will continue to degrade with ongoing health and environmental consequences. Both of these outcomes are unacceptable,” she said.

The downside for councils was they would no longer be able to include billions of dollars worth of infrastructure paid for over decades as an asset on their books.

While they would technically own the infrastructure, there would be no financial recognition of this ownership and this would limit their ability to borrow against it.
