Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?
Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle’s Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.
One student, however, wrote the following:
First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving, which is unlikely. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let’s look at the different religions that exist in the world today.
Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially.
Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle’s Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.
This gives two possibilities:
- If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.
- If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.
So which is it?
If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, ‘It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you,’ and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct….. …leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a Divine Being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting ‘Oh my God.’

Young people don’t need a retirement fund; they need a house-saving fund, and the best way is to put money into a high-growth fund and grow that house deposit as fast as you can. If you go to work at 18, stop spending too much and save into a fund; then by the time you want a house, you have a decent deposit.

They don’t all do that, but there is a range. Never give ya money to the govt. Try never to take the government money because once you do, some nasty snivelling bureaucrat or pollie is going to make you do something you don’t want to do. It’s the nature of the beast.
Indeed, I would suggest that for many, if they put money into even a medium-growth scenario with some of the private funds, they will beat KiwiSaver, except you lose the govt (other taxpayers) contribution, which has been halved anyway.

Te Pāti Māori’s latest proposal is unlikely to become law. However, with all the ongoing talk about the importance of the Treaty and racial preferences by the Labour Party, Green Party, and TOP, we cannot totally rule it out.
As I write, there is no parliamentary majority for it, and most New Zealanders would reject it outright.
But that’s not the point.
The real significance of this latest announcement is that it exposes just how radical Te Pāti Māori’s constitutional vision has become.
Their proposal would make Waitangi Tribunal findings binding on governments, create a powerful new Treaty Commission, and place increasing constraints on the ability of elected representatives to govern.
For many New Zealanders, this confirms what has long been suspected and what Hobson’s Pledge have been warning for a long time: Te Pāti Māori is no longer simply arguing for greater recognition of Māori interests within our democracy.
It is advocating for a fundamentally different political system, one that is not democratic.
Instead, they want power to transfer from democratically elected Members of Parliament to unelected iwi activists.
In effect, a House of Iwi Lords!
The Waitangi Tribunal was established as a commission of inquiry that makes recommendations. Te Pāti Māori wants those recommendations to become binding on future governments.
This means any future government is not actually in control. The Tribunal is!
Hobson’s Pledge have already been calling for an end to the Waitangi Tribunal. Its power and influence have gone well beyond its original purpose, and now acts solely as a voice for activists and a brake on democratic governance.
To make it the final arbiter of New Zealand laws simply confirms the need to get rid of the Tribunal now.
Our democracy is based on equal voting and equality before the law. Or at least it should be.
We already know it is not perfect, with separate Māori seats and too many examples of people being treated differently according to their ancestry to list here, be it in the health system, education, or more.
Our democracy is based on us electing people to represent us in Parliament. What Te Pāti Māori and its activist allies want is power to move to unelected commissions, tribunals, and iwi activists.
In a democracy, governments are elected by the people and can be removed by the people. The ultimate authority rests with voters.
If decision-making shifted away from voters, tribal authorities would gain unprecedented power over public policy. They already hold significant influence, but Te Pāti Māori wants even more.
Te Pāti Māori wants political and constitutional power to be based on ancestry and tribal status rather than democratic consent.
We must remain committed to a democratically elected Parliament. It is why we must also continue to call for an end to the Waitangi Tribunal as well as the Māori seats; they are incompatible with a democracy based on everyone being equal.
It is tempting to just ignore Te Pāti Māori as fringe and, on current polling, unlikely to retain all the seats they once held. But this misses the point – they are just part of a wider political landscape of parties obsessed with the supposed primacy of the Treaty and race-based decision-making.
Political parties often reveal their true ambitions when they think beyond what is immediately achievable. This policy tells New Zealanders exactly what kind of country Te Pāti Māori would like to create if given the opportunity.
For those of us who firmly believe in one person, one vote, equal citizenship, and a Parliament accountable to all New Zealanders equally, this announcement serves as an important reminder of what is at stake at this election.
It is not just Te Pāti Māori but all those parties that align with this Treaty-centric and divisive view.
TPM and their cronies need reminding that pre-1840 Maori were so desperate to be saved from each other they petitioned the British Crown to save them from fighting amongst themselves, from violent death, destruction, slavery and ongoing utu.

Chris Hipkins just released Labour’s AI Action Plan, and it confirms one of our worst fears – they want to censor your access to lawful online communication.
Labour wants a much bigger online speech regulator with a broader remit, and they’re using “child safety” and “AI” as the cover to build it.

They’re not even in Government yet, but they want to take the online safety regulator, first proposed two weeks ago, as part of the “under-16 social media ban” (the Online Safety Bill), and expand its powers well beyond children – imagine what they’ll do nine months from now!
There is no public mandate to gatekeep adults access to lawful communication – this is not a power we should hand to Labour (or to any government!) – can you imagine how tempted some parties will be to use this power to censor what they don’t like?!
Stopping a regulator that can gatekeep what adults are allowed to say and access online is one of our biggest red lines this election.
This was never about child safety As a mother myself, I worry about social media and the overabundance and access of online influences. There are undoubtedly real harms out there. But I oppose broad online regulatory powers, because I know how they end up: adults’ speech gets policed, and it doesn’t actually make kids any safer.
Labour has already shown their hand and we know where this leads. What starts with AI could easily end up with the super regulator being the “single source of truth” – and we know what damage that did to our community!
There are ways to reduce harm online, and there are targeted measures the Free Speech Union has no objection to, like resourcing and enforcing existing laws dealing with child sexual abuse material online and banning non-consensual deepfake pornography.
But look at what’s actually been proposed today,….; sweeping new territory for this regulator, with no detail on where its limits are. Their own release says it will sit inside the Department of Internal Affairs. Yet they’ve also told media it might be independent instead.
They can’t even agree on where the power will sit, let alone how it will be checked!
The “under-16 ban” and “AI risks” are being used as trojan horses for something much bigger: far greater government control over what New Zealanders can access and say online.
And once it’s been built – no government in power is likely to remove it.
The next two months have greater significance for free speech than the previous two years.

The government has announced plans to slash public service jobs by about 14 percent over the next three years in a shake-up it says will deliver $2.4 billion of savings.
The changes announced in a pre-Budget speech delivered by Finance Minister Nicola Willis on Tuesday would result in about 8700 job losses by mid-2029.
“Historically, core public service numbers have been equivalent to about 1 percent of the population. After a period of largesse under the last government it now hovers around 1.2 percent.
“We will be tracking progress towards a numerical target of no more than 55,000 full-time equivalent public service employees by July 2029. That’s 8700 fewer than were employed in December last year,” Willis said.
There are currently just over 63,000 full-time public servants, which is a slight decrease under this coalition government from the high of approximately 65,000 in the 2024/25 year.
Willis has outlined an overhaul of the public service designed to “reduce the number of government departments, increase the use of AI and other digital tools, and deliver significant savings”.
Public Service Minister Paul Goldsmith said the job cuts announced would be specific to core public services, and would not include teachers, doctors, nurses, other Health NZ staff, police, or defence personnel.
Infrastructure Minister and Hutt South MP Chris Bishop is overseeing the amalgamation of the ministries for the environment, housing and urban development, transport, and the local government functions of internal affairs.
The stand-up date for the new ministry – MCERT – is 1 July but Bishop says it will be years before the savings are seen.

New Zealand has extended its Defence Force deployment supporting Ukraine until June 2028.
Up to 70 NZDF personnel can be deployed in Europe, with most helping train Ukrainian forces in Poland. NZDF will also continue intelligence, liaison and logistics support, including specialist training in areas such as drones and electronic warfare.
Supporters say New Zealand should continue standing alongside Ukraine and its international partners. Others may question how long NZDF personnel should remain committed to an overseas conflict.
