Found SB’s brother last night.

A left-wing podcast host says he was arrested after being removed by security from an event hosted by ACT election candidate and broadcaster Paul Henry during the latest stop on his nationwide speaking tour.
The podcast host, Mike ‘Chewie’ Bennett, says he waited until a Q&A session at the event in Dunedin last night before asking Henry a question in a “respectful” manner. But he says he was suddenly frogmarched out as the exchange unfolded.
Henry told Media Insider that Bennett started yelling during the exchange at The Glenroy Auditorium, “accusing me of lying,” and was removed from the event when he did not comply with security’s request to leave.

its an interesting journey and shows how even a supposed powerhouse like the usa is extremely reliant on china.

all very true and quite obvious the consequences of it…. but the big question is how do countries combat it?

the current way seems to be hobble and hogtie industries by over regulation, emmission scams, high energy costs and letting unions run amok. then act all suprised when factories and mills etc close and jobs go offshore.

the playing field is massively tilted, mostly self inflicted too.

Houthis not only seeking to choke shipping, but in particular buggering up oil refineries.

Just thank goodness NZ is not paying a high cost in refining oil in NZ;
So many other countries have agreed, “No problem” that they can do it all so much cheaper. …. yeah right …. 🤑

Houthis Capture Red Sea Port In Bid To Choke Saudi Arabia

9 mins : 09 Sept., 2026 : India Global Review : The Palki Sharma Show

The Houthis have captured the strategic Red Sea port of Mokha after weeks of intense fighting on the ground.
The takeover gives the Houthis near-complete control over Yemen’s Red Sea port and levers to choke Saudi Arabia.
What will Riyadh do next?

The full show here:–

: Houthi Missile Barrage Hits Saudi Arabia | Oil Facilities on Fire |
https://youtu.be/mPv6VoGFqXU
55 minutes : 9th Sept,, 2026 : India Global Review : The Palki Sharma Show.

Saudi refineries and other oil facilities were ablaze after Yemen’s Houthis fired a barrage of missiles and drones at the kingdom.
The escalation comes amid renewed fighting in Yemen, where both players are on the opposite sides.
How will Saudi Arabia respond to these strikes?

The Straits into the Red Sea narrow down to a Strait of about 20 km wide, to compare with the Hormuz Straits being at 50 km.
The Houthis even took a small military island in the Red Sea.
It is almost as if the Suez Canal can be blockaded.

Then to consider the Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Turkey Pact to support each other.
Really, to put blood on the line or take money;– then run?????s

Or open another front, like for Turkey to Cyprus, maybe into Syria, or some Greece island.?
For Pakistan to give India another poke?.
That way every-one keeps being pinned down. 🙃 🥴 😎

Or is it?; who is funding who? If you can figure the money flow.
Bottom line, they always merger to empower Mohammad’s willing soldiers to gain global power & ‘peace’ for Allah.

no, its just a proposal at this stage. then a few years to build and it wont take near as much oil as crude tankers currently do.
theyre limited by port capacity at the other end.
itll pretty much be a buffer but not a full replacement to traditional shipping.

Yes.

Recently the IRGC sent some of their army? or IRGC to assist the Houthis, as they probably getting bored with shooting Persian protestors & hanging Mossad spies. while waiting for USA troops on the ground.

So many Persians are tik-toking how happy they are with the price rises, little food, & the mile+ long petrol queues.
After all they will be instantly shot if saying anything other wise.

As much as I detest Hipkins, to be fair to him he probably pays his ex a fuck ton in child support. I know because even on my income, which was probably half of his, the payments were eye watering IMO. And I’d guarantee she extracts every dollar she can from him “for the child”.

So I can understand why he was bent.

Child support needs urgent reform IMO. I’ve been meaning to write to relevant MPs for some time, but don’t anticipate getting anywhere, anyway.

What needs to happen is the shitcanning of the legislation that allows a woman to claim half of all a male’s assets regardless of who amassed those assets before the relationship clock started ticking.

Suddenly women demanding divorce because of feelz & trivia would become far less common. Kids could have two cohabiting parents as nature dictates & their development demands.

Few would go back to the days when people who hated each other were stuck together for life in violent relationships but the current situation is unsustainable.

Agreed. That too.

It should be a simple matter of proving one’s assets at the time and registering them in some way – maybe with a lawyer or the Public Trust.

The alternative is an opting out agreement – which is expensive, harder to do after the fact, and subject to challenge as soon as the relationship situation changes – with the arrival of a child for example.

The Taxpayers’ Union is welcoming New Zealand First’s policy to introduce a 10-year welfare stand-down period for visa holders, with an Official Information Act request showing that this policy would save at least $19.19 million in Auckland Metro alone.
New Zealand First’s policy would make all non-citizens ineligible for jobseeker, accommodation supplement, or any other benefits during their first 10 years in New Zealand.
The OIA request shows that:
– Over four years, the Ministry of Social Development granted $1,270,574.06 in Special Needs Grants to visa-holder categories in Auckland Metro, excluding protected persons and refugee categories.
– A further 1,008 Emergency Benefit grants to visa-holder categories had a combined gross weekly rate at the point of grant of $344,584.61, equivalent to $17,918,399.72 per year if annualised.
– MSD says the total amount paid through Emergency Benefits is not centrally held and would require officials to manually review individual client files.
– The request does not include permanent residents.
Taxpayers’ Union Investigative Lead, Rhys Hurley, said:
“A 10-year stand-down would protect taxpayers from becoming the backstop for immigration settings that bring people into the country before they can support themselves.”
“In Auckland Metro alone, taxpayers have funded at least $1.27 million in Special Needs Grants to visa holders, and that is only the part of the bill MSD can centrally identify.”
“The Emergency Benefit grants recorded for visa-holder categories add a further $17.9 million in Auckland Metro. Spread across the whole country and across every available benefit, the true cost could be many millions more.”

for naaska.

the other day about “the Passing of the Drovers”. Can you remember the names of any Martinborough Drovers we have not mentioned below? Droving is the task of gently moving a herd of livestock along a road or across country. Move them too fast and the livestock will lose condition and flag. Move them too slow and no one is happy because time is money. It was a difficult balance to keep, and a good Drover always hit the “sweet spot”.

Another factor was that the livestock were getting a free feed of grass from the “long acre” along the road. This might be helpful if the farmer who owned the livestock was short of grass or “feed” say at the end of winter or a long hot summer.

Droving was an important part of the Wairarapa farming landscape from the start of pastoral farming in 1844 up to the mid 1960’s. At Mukamuka rocks just past Corner Creek on Ocean Beach, the sheep originally had to be carried through the surf, one at a time. Te Ara notes that for roughly the next century, seeing a drover and a flock of sheep travelling along the east-coast beaches was commonplace. Large herds of cattle and sheep were shifted from property to property after sales or to the meat works at Waingawa, Masterton, Gear at Petone and also to the Ngauranga meat works. Drovers took livestock both over the Remutaka Hill road and around the wild south coast to Eastbourne and beyond.

The various Roads Board and Councils purchased “Holding Paddocks” at strategic intervals, so that the Drovers could rest stock overnight with somewhere to get them off the road. Many of these little plots are still owned by the District Council today. The Councils also had metal “borrow pits” at strategic locations to get metal for the road formation. Sometimes they were used as holding paddocks also.

At Lake Ferry records in the 19th century, the pioneers drove stock around the coast. If the Lake Onoke outlet was “open” to the sea, the hotel licence-holder was obliged to provide boat to transport the drover and his stock across the lake. That is where the name “Lake Ferry” came from. The ferry charges board is on display in the South Wairarapa District Council offices.

About February 1923 a herd of 120 bullocks accidently swum out to sea when being driven around the Whatarangi bluffs in Palliser Bay. Four of the beasts drowned but the rest made it back ashore ok. There were rumours that they were “put through the works as corned beef” averaging 975 pounds (442 kilograms) per head. The “Devils Mile” between Pahaoa and Te Awaiti on the east coast was so named by the early drovers, because of the risk of loosing their livestock charges to the sea.

A Drovers “Plant” consisted of:

  • a pack horse; a saddle and working gear; drovers whips and a cash box
  • A good dog or two
  • A tarpaulin or tent and swag or sleeping blanket for sleeping on the job with the livestock
  • Billies for cooking, eating plate/utensils and maybe a Thermette or kettle for making tea
  • And his ability to get work moving stock

It sounds like a fairly hard existence.

There was a transition from drovers to moving livestock in trucks. This seems to have been happening from the 1920s onward. By the late 1960’s trucking was becoming more efficient at moving livestock and droving gradually faded out.

There is a fascinating 1923 Wairarapa Age article headed: “MOTOR LORRY v. DROVER”. It compares fat lambs transported to the freezing works under the care of a drover with those carried by motor lorry. The article records a comparison involving 209 lambs sent under a drover against 211 transported by motor lorry. With the conclusion that the lorry did a better job. I bet the Drovers of that time disagreed!

SoSome of the names older folk might remember are William J. Gray of Whatarangi, Arthur and William Allsworth from Masterton, Harry Charles Barton and Stanley Roberts from Pirinoa, and Tex Charteris, Neil McLaren, Geoff Diederich, Ewen Bruce, Buster Rolls, Roy Amos, Jack Rawhiti (Rafferty), Derek Orchard, Freddie Bird, Bub Salsbury , Les Briant, Terry & Eve Youngman, Webb Harris, Tex Charteris, Bob Buick, Dave Harris, Bob Sargent, Webb Harris, Bob Madden, Link Campbell and Ian Moffitt are still remembered with respect in the Martinborough district. Peter Youngman remembers “My dad Terry Youngman was the droved in 1960’s he drove from White Rock to Martinborough all-round the place

According to Ewen Bruce Jack Rawhiti drove the last herd of sheep to the Featherston Railway yards in about 1965. Ewen had some great stories from the Droving days – has anyone got any stories we can add to this developing article?

The days of droving had vanished into the rear view mirror by the time I started chauffeuring livestock. Although i was taken on as a yard boy in 1966 it was three years before I turned 20 & could obtain my heavy trailer licence. My experience with stock moving started then.

Although I knew people in Masterton & the South Wairarapa I was based further north & it was Woodville down to Eketahuna & out to the East Coast that was my stamping ground.

Anyone who wanted to learn about droving days in the Lower Valley would be best advised to talk to descendants of Garrity Bros in Greytown or Trevor Hawkins who founded Martinborough Transport. Even then most of their recollections would be secondhand.

Time races past.

Dubai is an iconically wealthy city – but its wealth is built on vulnerable foundations, and right now, those foundations are facing a potential crisis due to the growing instability in the Strait of Hormuz. And as you’re about to see, the possible solution Dubai is now considering is nothing short of extraordinary. The city owes much of its success to Jebel Ali, one of the largest and most important container ports on Earth. It connects Dubai to factories in Asia, to customers in Europe, and to supply chains spanning almost every continent. But here is the vulnerability: every ship entering or leaving that port must first pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Having to rely on a narrow gateway outside of its control is a risk Dubai has been able to manage for decades. But now, escalating conflict has transformed the risk into an immediate and serious threat. Ships have been attacked, traffic is disrupted, and the trade routes supporting one of the wealthiest cities in the world have suddenly begun to look dangerously fragile. So, faced with seemingly no other choice, Dubai is turning to radical propositions – and perhaps the most radical of all is to simply build a new port altogether. In this episode of Looking 4, we’ll be traveling to the opposite side of the United Arab Emirates – beyond the Strait of Hormuz, facing directly into the Gulf of Oman – where a potentially transformative new port could give Dubai something it has never truly had before – its own front door.
