New Zealand could learn a lot from Switzerland:
On the 27th of September, Swiss voters will decide on the popular initiative “Safeguarding Swiss Neutrality.” The proposal would insert a new article into the Federal Constitution declaring Swiss neutrality perpetual and armed. Switzerland would be barred from joining any military or defence alliance and from cooperating with such alliances except in the event of a direct attack or imminent preparation for one. It would also prohibit participation in armed conflicts between third countries and the imposition of sanctions on belligerent states, with narrow exceptions only for UN-mandated measures and steps to prevent circumvention of those sanctions. The country would instead leverage its neutrality for mediation and good offices.
This is not an abstract constitutional exercise or a merely bureaucratic formality. It is a direct response to the steady erosion of the principle that kept Switzerland out of both world wars and preserved its independence for two centuries. It is one of the core foundations the country was built on and one of the main reasons for its present success, the global trust it enjoys and its economic prowess.

Depends on a few things. Keeping it simple:
Assuming her meth is 100% pure, that’s 23000 g of meth. Meth is supposedly around $74 per gram – I can’t find information on purity.
That would mean $1.7 m worth.
But… powdered meth in NZ is apparently only 5-17% pure, so taking the higher end and making it 20% for ease, you get $8.5 m, which is the estimate in the story.
The cops supposedly value their seizures by street price but reality suggests that they must shop in the upmarket parts of town. Purity probably doesn’t influence the price greatly as sellers will “cut” it with other substances to the extent they can get away with.
But the price of meth is falling. $330/g is the going rate for a gram going by recent MSM reports but the street price will be somewhat different. A “point” bag (1/10gram) in 2025 sold for a NZ average price of $74.

Joseph Darby says rising costs have widened the gap between what a tenant pays and what their house costs to provide with the owner paying the difference. Why does the shortfall exist, and what’s the return landlords need to justify it?
Few New Zealand financial beliefs are as persistent as the idea that rent is dead money. As an investment claim, current numbers tell a different story: the tenant pays for only part of what the house costs to provide, and the owner pays the rest.
Take the median Auckland house, for example, which sold for $950,000 in August. Rent one and you pay about $650 a week on MBIE’s bond data.
Now examine what the owner pays each year. Council rates, insurance and upkeep have all inflated rapidly in recent years. The pressure on them remains upward: local authority rates rose 8.8 percent nationwide in the year to June. Home insurance premiums have risen 40 percent in the last two years and grown at three times the rate of general inflation since 2011, according to Treasury analysis. For the purposes of illustration, rates are taken as $3,800, a little under Auckland Council’s average residential bill of $4,378 because the median house sits below the average value. Allow another $2,700 for insurance and $4,750 for maintenance, 0.5 percent of the property’s value. Together they come to about $215 a week.
The larger cost is capital. Readers of this site are aware interest rates are rising again and sit closer to long-run averages than to the record lows many had come to treat as normal. Owning $950,000 of property means either borrowing the money and paying interest, or tying up savings which could be earning a return elsewhere, or a mix of the two. Paying cash for the house removes the mortgage and leaves the cost of capital in place as forgone investment return. Either way the capital has a price, and current mortgage rates are the market’s price for it. One-year fixed rates at most of the major banks sit just under five percent, so at five percent the $950,000 costs $910 a week, regardless of how it is supplied. Every figure from here is before tax, for ease of illustration.

Residents would drive south over the Waingawa bridge & transfer Burridge’s bulk beer from the brewery trucks onto trailers & haul it back for consumption on private property.
Ten kilometres south down SH2 the East Taratahi as the nearest house of the healing waters flourished. No breathalysers in those days but for those worried about taking out a few chain of a local cocky’s fence buses were laid on.
This continued to 1946 when Masterton voted to go wet with trust controls.
