  2. Secondary school teachers who refuse to get vaccinated against COVID-19 are being warned they shouldn’t expect their union to fight for them to keep their job.

The Government on Monday said all school and early childhood education staff and volunteers “that have contact with children and students” would have to get their first jab by November 15 and be fully vaccinated by the year’s end. In the meantime, anyone not vaccinated will be tested weekly before they’re allowed to go to work.
“It’s a common-sense decision,” Principals’ Federation president Perry Rush told Newshub. “We have to accept that teachers and students are in close contact with each other for six hours every day, and that situation warrants some pretty stringent expectations around safety.

“I think it isn’t a surprise the Government has mandated vaccinations – the devil really is in the detail though, and a lot of that detail is yet to come.”
    https://www.msn.com/en-nz/news/national/union-warns-anti-vax-teachers-they-shouldn-t-expect-to-keep-their-jobs/ar-AAPo4hS?ocid=winp1taskbar

So as predicted the teachers union followed the govt. line and shat on their members.
That should lower their fee intake and make a lot more teachers support Charter Schools or private schools.

Unions should have been destroyrf by Key when he had the chance. He failed.
    what a surpirse.

  3. With the new era of people being declared sick or a “case” without symptoms or medical assessment, I was looking at what other pandemics we could use to increase compliance of those pesky sheep.

So the next Pandemics de jour is caused by the Menegacocol bacteria. This deadly disease is carried in around 15% of the population at any one time. That is 750,000 cases in New Zealand who would test “positive” today. In 2019, 10 people died of meningitis. That is 5 times the deaths of people who die with a positive PCR test. Worldwide 300,000 people died. It is a horrible disease most prominent in the young with 10-20% of cases dieing withing 24-48 hours. The onset symptoms are similar to flu.

With these appalling figures and a virilance much higher than Covid19, surely we need to declare a pandemic and lock everyone down for 6 months.

    But we don’t. Why I wonder….

If finalized, the advice for older adults would backtrack on recommendations the panel issued in 2016 for helping prevent a first heart attack and stroke.

Older adults without heart disease shouldn’t take daily low-dose aspirin to prevent a first heart attack or stroke, an influential health guidelines group said in preliminary updated advice released Tuesday.

Bleeding risks for adults in their 60s and up who haven’t had a heart attack or stroke outweigh any potential benefits from aspirin, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force said in its draft guidance.

LOS ANGELES (NewsNation Now) — There are a near-record 146 cargo ships off the California coast either anchored or at berth with billions of dollars worth of merchandise — and not much can be done about it.

About half of all imports come into Southern California, but it’s now a major choke point in the global supply chain.

  7. OM Goodness.
What can one say to this.
Its good but really it’s a sad indictment on the society.
    Mums and babies.

MAUMELLE, Ark. — There’s a new Safe Haven Baby Box installed at Maumelle Fire Station #1. The boxes are equipped with alarm systems that immediately notify staff all around the station, both inside and outside.

The boxes lock from the outside once a newborn is placed inside it and feature automatic heating and cooling systems for newborns that are dropped off.

‘”That’s a safety feature of this box so that someone can’t come up behind a mother and take the baby out,” said Monica Kelsey, founder of the nonprofit Safe Haven Baby Box. “Also, we don’t won’t mom to take the baby out of the box still in a state of crisis. She’s more than welcome to come inside and get assistance. That at least gives us the option to assist her.”

The Arkansas Safe Haven law allows a parent to bring a newborn that’s 30 days or younger to any medical, fire, or law enforcement department that’s staffed for 24 hours.
    https://www.thv11.com/article/news/local/arkansas-unveils-sixth-safe-haven-baby-box-in-maumelle/91-c851cb03-ae51-47b8-b319-fbd597c5841b?fbclid=IwAR0tHkQkiuLrLiHaQsR-RA_gU-D3l7SZgU9xdAcXdXWPC5uDUQvSpJcE6pg

n the past 4 years, 12 babies have been surrendered using the boxes. Half of those babies were surrendered in 2020 during the pandemic. One of those babies from last year was actually an Arkansas boy at the baby box in Benton.

  8. Rising infectious cases in the community ‘a sign outbreak is worsening

Well colour me surprised. apparently they don’t follow oversea’s data but just slosh out millions to stupid epidemiologist and broken arsed uni spread sheet calculators. like Hendy and Baker and Wiles and Planker the wanker.

The number of people with Covid-19 who were infectious while in the community is growing as restrictions have loosened, which an expert says is a “concerning” sign.

On average, 65.7 per cent of cases reported in the past seven days – during Auckland’s first week at ‘step 1’ of alert level 3 – were infectious while in the community, leading to exposure events, Ministry of Health data shows.

This is up from an average of 52.4 per cent the seven days prior, Auckland’s second week at the stricter alert level 3 settings, and 44.7 per cent in the region’s first full week at level 3.

    • Viking,

      Given that the ‘Vaccine’
      (a) Contains the same spike protein pathogen as the Covid-19 virus; AND
      (b) Contains the same or similar blood cell parasite as in Covid-19; AND
      (c) Contains Graphene Oxide; AND
      (d) A mechanism to disable existing specific anti-bodies, in order to get around vaccine resistance:

It is a Given that the an test for Covid will test positive if you have had the vaccine, and that you will develop side effects and/or death as a result of the vaccine.

If it looks like dog shit.
If it feels like dog shit.
If it smells like dog shit.
If it tastes like dog shit,
      If IS dog shit.

      The Vaccine:
If it has a spike protein,
If it has a blood cell parasite,
If it attacks using the same methods as the virus,
If it replicates like the virus,
It IS the virus, and the body will go capitulate in the same way.

Man charged over search for father and children in Marokopa, Waikato
    They always want revenge.

He didn’t ask them to “waste their time and resources” they decide don that. It was their choice
They need to take responsibility for their choice.
But thy won’t they will attempt to bankrupt the guy.

    Arseholes for ever.
And for sure he should have told someone but every week we see them looking for boaties, fishermen , trampers and so on.

    Power corrupts.
Well of course unless there is something we haven’t been told about.

    • I was thinking about this yesterday while it was being discussed on magic talk, the majority wanted to crucify the guy and i did think the same at the start when he first reappeared but then within a short period drew the same conclusion as you.
The guy went on a break/holiday, he wasnt in danger and he didnt call the police or SAR.

Its now a crime in nz to not tell someone where youre going 🙁 i hope the charge every runnaway teen in nz too…

      • IAASB, The guy parked his 4wd hilux where he knew the tide would cover it and told nobody about the plan ,seriously you would hear all hell breaking loose if the police did nothing after finding the ute submerged on the beach and 3 little kids missing..

        7

        0

        • Revvy, police havent said if the guy left the ute there he couldve parked it up and the natives of the area had a joyride.

Even so that would only justify a sea search for bodies why the waste of time and resources scouring the bush? If they suspected he went bush then that would indicate he didnt want found so why persue it?

My first thoughts at the time were send him the bill and charge with child endangerment but when you start to think about it he deserves neither, the kids werent in danger and he didnt ask for assistance.

The last 18mnths the whole country and the world has vern in over reaction mode and this is just an extension of that, leave the guy alone he just had some time out/ holiday with his kids as i said his crime was not telling someone where he was going.

  10. Good morning everyone, in the time it took to read the above posts the sky has gone from almost blue to a whiter shade or dark grey so rain could once again be on its way at least the winds have died down. This weather is like our DL relentless in pissing us off. Has our Brigadier slept in this morning? He is usually bright eyed and bushy tailed nice and early or has Fanny kept him occupied in the scratcher this morning? Have as good a day as you can people, Only one more day and we can find out if restrictions in lockup will be toughened due to us not getting the jab. I wonder how many more cases will there be today, and are these people really unwell who are tested????? Oops raining again, oh how lovely.

October 6, 2021 [Follow up supporting letter]
Dr. Lee’s clinical observations are particularly troubling because,
as she explains, “it appears statistically improbable that any one physician should witness this many Covid-19 vaccine injuries if the federal health authority claims regarding Covid-19 vaccine safety were accurate”

  11. Morning Troopers,

Well Cindy got up on the Podium of Tooth yesterday and told us our vaccination rates where better then the US, Germany and the UK. The problem is, she was comparing our rate of eligible punters vs their rates over total population. The fact is, we are behind all of them.
Looking forward to her getting up there and correcting this “mistake” today. And a little apology for misleading us would be nice.

  13. FYI:

I live in the Waipa area and today (Via my local community’s FB page) received a ‘Lets get the jab’ video (Issued under the name of the Waipa District Council) from the Mayor appeared, together with this klittle homily:

‘Mayor Jim has something to tell you — he wants you to save the date for Saturday and get vaccinated! ✔️
Waipā District Council are proud to support Super Saturday: a nationwide push to get Kiwis vaccinated before summer’

Unfortunately, I can’t post the vid here, but you get the idea.

No doubt ‘Mayor Jim’ will be suitably-rewarded by DL for his efforts. and although politically the district has traditionally been a Nat’s stronghold, I expected better, but will now know who NOT to vote for at the next local body elections.

No doubt ‘Mayor Jim’ will be suitably-rewarded by DL for his efforts…

Since the start of the Delta outbreak, 8500 more people have ended up on the benefit, Ministry of Social Development figures show.

While job losses have been nowhere near as severe as the first lockdown in March last year, many thousands of whānau are still struggling to make ends meet, as COVID-19 restrictions remain in place.

But it was not just rising rents.

  17. Jethro and Cindy are visiting a family farm just outside Morrinsville. It is apparent that the two of them are not getting along on this particular morning so the handlers thought it best to separate them to keep things under control.
Cindy starts the tour along with the farmers wife and they come across the chicken coop complete with rooster. Cindy asks the farm hand standing by “How many times can the rooster perform in a day?” to which the somewhat surprised (and embarrassed) man provides a number. Cindy then says “You be sure to tell Jethro that.”
A short while latter Jethro approaches the chicken coop and the farm hand says to Jethro, “Cindy told me to tell you that the rooster over there can perform several dozen times a day.” To which Jethro asks “Same hen every time?” “Oh no Jethro, a different hen each time” replies the farm hand. Jethro now says “You be sure to tell Cindy that.”

  18. Small businesses in Auckland say Minister of Finance Grant Robertson has failed to read the room when it comes to the dire realities they are facing.
    https://www.1news.co.nz/2021/10/12/small-businesses-concerned-govt-has-no-pathway-out-of-auckland-lockdown/

Final accounts for the year ended June show a deficit of $4.6 billion compared with forecasts in May of a deficit of more than $15b, and the previous year’s $29.6b shortfall.

“It’s fabulous to hear Grant Robertson so optimistic but I wonder who will be left to share his optimism. I don’t think they fully grasp the enormity of what individual small business owners are suffering right now.

Auckland Chamber of Commerce chief executive Michael Barnett told Checkpoint it was particularly small to medium size businesses that were hurting the most.

Government books did not often take into account smaller sized businesses when they were looking at a broad picture of the economy, he said.

“It’s the small end of town that are really being punished by not being able to operate.

“They can’t see a plan, they can’t see a finish line, and that’s frustrating for them because if there is no plan for the environment in which they’re going to operate in, they can’t make a plan for what they’re going to do.”

The intensity of the campaign to get vaccinated has my bullshit meter off the scale. Never in my seventy odd years have I witnessed such force, coercion, brainwashing & censorship of opposing viewpoints on anything.

If compliance has to be pushed so hard the end goal is certainly not of benefit to me or my family.

I meet lots of people in the park all of whom are jabbed, they have the front to ask everyone if they are and I keep quiet about that, but listen to them all moaning about being locked up by DL and how they wish it were not so. I make lots of snide remarks but as they are a bit of a lifeline at the moment I certainly do not wish to piss them off. I have no idea what the IAN etc means sorry could you elaborate? And I hope you feel better tomorrow.

      • Lizziep, thank you. I’m not surprised you don’t know what IANAN IAAFM means. It is from the 1967 television series, The Prisoner, well before my time, lol. Komata introduced it to me. The letters stand for “I am not a number, I am a free man.”
        https://www.rutherford.org/publications_resources/john_whiteheads_commentary/the_prisoner_i_am_not_a_number_i_am_a_free_man
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nW-bFGzNMXw (first episode).

I’m feeling better now knowing I am not alone – I am with like-minded thinkers. Maybe that could be the YSB motto – IANA-IAWLMT. Although, on further thought, it’s a bit of a mouthful. 😉

The main thing is for us to remember we are not alone – and to reach out when we have bad days. For me, most of my old support network has disowned me, so now it’s time for me to build new ones. What is ironic that NZ has just had Mental Health Awareness Week but the Government of Kindness lockdowns, vax bullying and mandates does nothing to promote Mental Health and everything to destroy it – but only IF we let it, and damned if I’m going to let the bastards grind me down.

  26. Has this been posted yet? It is well worth reading:

    JACINDA ARDERN’S COVID TREASON
Has the New Zealand Prime Minister been using COVID-19 to engage in a deliberate attack on New Zealand and the New Zealand people on behalf of powerful global interests? The evidence is unfortunately stacking up against her. As difficult as this concept is for us to accept, the actions are increasingly speaking for themselves and it is getting more and more difficult to find other reasoning for things.

    • I’ve had a few people mention the “T” word to me for some time, Alice. It’s taken a bit to get my head around that concept. But yesterday it all clicked into place. JA and the rest of the elected and unelected (i.e. employed) public servants have all taken an oath to the Queen and the law. But the key players, at the very least, have demonstrated actions that they have broken their oaths, and this is indeed an attack on the people and the country they swore to protect.

From my understanding the “law” in the oath is Common Law, Rule of Law (put in place by the Commonwealth Sovereign – the Queen), which is higher than any Contract Law (i.e. piece of legislation) that the parliament of the day put in place. The only thing higher than Common Law is Natural Law – our inalienable Human Rights we were born with.

Most importantly, all public servants have been delegated limited authority to act as our trustees, and we the people expect them to act as our trustees and not our masters. When they step outside of the limited authority we have delegated to them, they are breaking their oath to the Queen and the Law, which is not only a crime, but would therefore make it treason.

Disclaimer: I have zero legal background, but I have been involved in legal cases that have required in-depth knowledge of various Acts, including the Crimes Act, and been won on the Principle, Rule of Law (Common Law). I believe that once we get our head around what our rights are, it is easier to protect and defend them. I’m still researching into and clarifying my understanding of the above, and recommend people seek legal advice before quoting my above opinion.

    • Sums up the situation exactly.
At least more people are waking up to the treason but we need to stop it.The longer they have the more legislation they will change and the more they will destroy this country.
Electoral Law reform, three waters and emissions bs will be followed by more legislation.
While we are all locked up,distracted ,opposition MP’s bewidered, they will contue to wreck.
It’s serious and some how we need to stop it.

      • The opposition is not so much bewildered as complicit. They like the idea of tyranny, they just think they should be the ones running it. See for example Collins and Seymour – fully supporting the narrative – “safe and effective”.

    • Tarquin, i feel for you and all the other strangled business owners its utter bullshit what the govt is putting them through.

I only see mass civil disobedience as the way out, theres 2 ways it can be done…
1, band together give the govt the middle finger and just open up and stand your ground.

2, band together go to wellington and shut down the government. If govt can shut us down we should be able to shut them down!

Unfortunately from what weve seen so far theres not enough good ppl with courage to undertake either of those options

    • How can the Mad Queen have her wedding this summer? She will be busy stamping her feet in an insane rage and still trying to stamp out delta. Auckland will still be locked in level 3 until Waitangi Day if her and her chosen advisors continue to pursue elimination, which they obviously are.
Her track record of complete failure in the past predicts the insanity will continue until she crumples.

She is a US born Prof of Economics from Sydney University. She is with us on how the whole issue has been greatly mishandled. A lot of time is spent talking about crowds (or “group thinking”).
Well worth the hour listening to it (podcast 152)

In the email sent out to subscribers he says he has sent it to a number of “friendly” media outlets but has also been contacted by Associated Press and he thinks they are extremely worried so I suppose they will try to do the “fact check” smear.

  32. Herewith a great article on the origins of covid and Boris’s handling of it Well worth the read.
Just a small part “Do you know what really got me questioning what was going on, right at the beginning of this? The one thing that made me realise, there and then, that we were being played. It was all those videos of people dropping dead in the streets of Wuhan. Not going down like a sack of spuds, but cartoonishly keeling over, stiff as a board, as they went shopping on the mean streets of Wuhan. Anyone who has had the flu will tell you that the last thing you feel like doing is a bit of shopping.

Most of these videos have been wiped from existence. Thankfully I managed to find a few, just to remind you of how utterly ridiculous they look.
But the really ridiculous thing, Boris, is the complete absence of reports or videos of anyone similarly keeling over anywhere else on the entire planet . . . and that just doesn’t make sense. The Chinese were yet again helping to prime the rest of the world, just like they helped in creating the virus.

Those videos put the fear of God into so many people. And even with that famous video of Wuhan citizens shouting from their tower blocks that it was all a sham, the Italians locked down next and Neil Ferguson realised that you’d get away with it here.

    • Exactly. I remember talking to my GP during that initial period of the China virus outbreak and telling him I was keeping an eye on what was happening. The Wuhan people collapsing was so disturbing with bodies being left in the street because they were so infectious. I smelt a plan as cunning as a weasel when soon after infected bodies were not being collected from the streets of other infected countries,

      11

    • Viking many good points in that article.

This has never been about saving lives, it’s about scaring people witless, to the point that they’ll accept an experimental drug no thinking person would have even considered taking just two short years ago.
And you have suppressed cheap and effective treatments that would have saved hundreds of thousands of lives, if not millions, in order that your clot shot could be ‘legally’ approved.
      .
If you were genuinely interested in saving lives, or even the sacred NHS, you’d have provided every man, woman and child in this country with a course or two of antivirals such as ivermectin (in conjunction with zinc, vitamins C & D), which has been shown time and again to reduce death by up to 85 per cent.
But pretty much every course of action you and Matt Hancock took in the early days appeared engineered to compound the problem, not cauterise it.
      .
Right at the beginning, when people started getting ill, they were given the useless PCR tests only when they were exhibiting symptoms and being admitted to hospital.
Over the following few months, this remained the situation; of course, as the inventor of the PCR test clearly attested, it is a pointless test if people are not exhibiting symptoms.
Over that period, it was drummed into the mainstream media-watching public that a case equated to a positive PCR test.

Ditto for Ardern’s blind Kindness of Freakery Control.
      Never did care!

  34. Everybody over 30 will have lost 100% of their entire immune capability (for viruses and certain cancers) within 6 months.
30-50 year olds will have lost it by Christmas. These people will then effectively have full blown acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and destroy the NHS.

“Latest UK PHE Vaccine Surveillance Report figures on Covid cases show that doubly vaccinated 40-70 year olds have lost 40% of their immune system capability compared to unvaccinated people. Their immune systems are deteriorating at around 5% per week (between 2.7% and 8.7%). If this continues then 30-50 year olds will have 100% immune system degradation, zero viral defence by Christmas and all doubly vaccinated people over 30 will have lost their immune systems by March next year.”

  36. From Kiwiblog:

“Labour’s internal polling must be indicating that they are totally tanking, by the looks of things. Ardern’s sending out Robertson and Hipkins to do all her bidding at the moment. All the about face/panic stations stuff. Hipkins just indicating to HDPA on the Drive show a total about face on Miq and considering home isolation now. About bloody time. How ridiculous is it that they are considering home isolation for covid positives yet carrying on with Miq of vaccinated people?

Hipkins sounds totally shattered. I’d say he’s about to hit the wall from being under the pump for so long and having to lie so much. And he’s the minister of education as well. That Ardern’s a bit short on the ground with talent would be an understatement. Anyway I’d say Labour is about to reach a tipping point with their covid response and totally implode very shortly. Their actions will be all over the show soon. Even more than we’ve seen of late, if that were possible.”

    • Why is there no autopsy done, on any one who dies after being vaxxed.
      Should be automatic,

Facts become binary, the tissue samples are either Yes or No, as being in the Normal range.
Testes, Ovaries, Brain, Heart, Liver, lungs, and Blood, plus any closer inspection of what caused the death, like blood clot, heart for pericarditis or myocardium or bowel problems.

Take whatever necessary photos, those samples, then bury or cremate the body.

Instead of the reading, arguing how to interpret what ever the medical notes are of the deceased to declare the cause of death.

Should come up with a result one or the other, and that should also help sift whether the vaccine triggers or creates co-morbidity, that may have been under control.

  37. PANDEMIC UPDATE
In Australia Delta cases in Victoria have risen to 1571 cases reported there today, and that wasn’t exactly expected. Deaths rose there to 13 yesterday. There are now 19,627 active cases in the state. In NSW there were another 444 new community cases reported today with another 309 not assigned to known clusters, and another unexpected rise. They now have 6,044 active locally acquired cases which is lower, but they had a sharp jump to 13 deaths yesterday. Queensland is reporting zero new cases again. The ACT has 58 new cases. Overall in Australia, more than 63% of eligible Aussies are fully vaccinated, plus 19% have now had one shot so far. There were zero new cases in New Zealand at the border, and 55 more in the community. So far, 59% of eligible Kiwis now have both shots, another 23% the initial shot. So far the New Zealand vaccination effort is faltering (82.7% of Kiwis nationally aged 12 and over and only rising slowly) and the Australian rate is also slowing with theirs now at 82.8% of all 16 year olds and over.

Thames Coromandel Mayor Sandra Goudie admitted to Stuff on Wednesday that she wasn’t vaccinated.

She twice hung up on Stuff, but said she is waiting for another Covid-19 vaccine, Novavax, not yet approved in New Zealand. She refused to say why she had made that call.

A KKR-led investor group are closing in on a deal to buy a song catalogue spanning hits from Lorde and The Weeknd for US$1.1bn (NZ$1.59bn), the latest sign a private equity-fuelled land rush for music hits is gaining pace.

Indie music company Kobalt is in advanced talks to sell the catalogue to a consortium led by KKR, which will take a majority stake, and the family office of Stephen Hendel, a former Goldman Sachs partner, according to people familiar with the talks.

Negotiations were advanced and a deal could be announced as soon as this week, these people said. The catalogue had also attracted bids from an Apollo-backed consortium and Todd Boehly’s Eldridge Industries.

The deal comes as private equity groups have invested billions in the music industry, as they search for places to allocate capital in an ultra-low interest rate environment.

Oregon state Sens. Kim Thatcher and Dennis Linthicum, both Republicans, have petitioned Acting U.S. Attorney Scott E. Asphaug to launch a grand jury investigation into the measurement of COVID-19 statistics by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

  43. Interesting video just popped up on my Youtube feed, which sychronistically aligns with what I need to hear on this challenging day: it was made on Aug 18 – Let Everybody Disown You – The Darkness No Longer Has Control of You. Kyle Cease. He talks about how the world energy is changing fast and more and more people are waking up. If you are a believer that the battle going on in the world is between dark and light, etc. and that you have inalienable rights it’s worth a watch!

  44. 911 System In Jeopardy As First Responders Reject Jab

“The magnitude has really blown up over the last few months,” AAA President Shawn Baird told NBC News.

“When you take a system that was already fragile and stretched it because you didn’t have enough people entering the field, then you throw a public health emergency and all of the additional burdens that it put on our workforce, as well as the labor shortages across the entire economy, and it really has put us in a crisis mode,” Baird said.

  45. Seattle Police May Fire ‘Devastating’ Number of Officers Over Vaccination Mandate
    By Jack Phillips
    October 12, 2021 Updated: October 12, 2021

The Seattle Police Department could be forced to fire up to 40 percent of its workforce when the statewide COVID-19 vaccination mandate goes into effect, according to data posted by the department.

Last week, the department released its current figures for officers’ COVID-19 vaccination status, showing that 292 sworn officers out of about 1,000 haven’t received the shot. However, Seattle Police spokesperson Sgt. Randy Huserik told Fox13 that about 111 additional officers are awaiting the results of requests for exemptions to the vaccine.

Would I benefit from a vaccine? What impact does the new variant of the COVID-19 virus have on vaccines?
Is the COVID vaccine effective against the new strain?
    Is the COVID vaccine safe??
This is the COVID vaccine clinical trials, explained.

Is the vaccine safe for 12 year olds, the covid vaccine trials, covid vaccine clinical trials explained, clinical trials of vaccine for covid 19, the covid vaccine safe, will the vaccine end covid, is the covid vaccine safe long term, analyze and optimize, the truth about the covid vaccine shot.

This may be a video, that sows a seed of doubt to others, as it sort of covers the base questions & issues.

MedsafeNZ may have got it in their caution, but then totally breached by the Ardern & Bloomfield medical autocracy which a Court case proved. That very night retrospective Ardern’s government had legislation under Urgency passed to overrule the Judge.

  47. Peter Ridd fought against James Cook University.

“Would I still say that, due to systemic quality assurance problems, work from a couple of Great Barrier Reef science institutions was ‘untrustworthy’?” he wrote.

“It has cost me my job, my career, over $300K in legal fees, and more than a few grey hairs.

“All I can say is that I hope I would do it again – because overall it was worth the battle, and having the battle is, in this case, more important than the result.”
    https://www.mcivortimes.com.au/national/2021/10/13/5409002/academic-freedom-bid-lost-in-high-court
and the last word to JCU showing their cultism hypocrisy.
“James Cook University at all times has made clear that it strongly supports the pursuit of intellectual enquiry and the freedom of staff to engage in academic and intellectual freedom,” a spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday.
    …. Yeah right. …

    Peter Ridds full letter here

These Ivory Tower universities like Jame Cook University seem to be sealing the control on all research, thinking, and what can be studied, and also what the result should be on their terms.

The fight against the people, still shows the point, that mindless control has been resurrected, as the church like cult control over Galileo, many centuries ago.

    • As it has a limit of paywall, Apologies a bit long, but to paste the lot,
I see parallels in New Zealand Universities and how they tie in with a political controlling arm, over many things now.
      .
The Peter Ridd case is too important to be left to the courts
      Graham Young : 1 July 2021 4:00 AM
      .
A lot rides on the case of Ridd v JCU, which was heard last Wednesday, June 23, 2021, in the High Court of Australia.
      .
The case is to determine whether an academic can criticise other academics at the same institution for their academic work without breaching the university’s Code of Conduct and being liable to be sacked.
      .
If Ridd loses, then, without remedial action by the government, academics become mere cyphers of their universities, unable to strenuously critique the work of their colleagues. Instead of fearless seekers after the truth, their role will be as little more than publicists for their respective institutions, and whatever work is produced by their colleagues, good, bad, or indifferent.
      .
The ills arising from this are not trivial.
If Ridd is correct that significant portions of the research on the Great Barrier Reef done by James Cook University researchers is sloppy, and not objective, then JCU is playing a central role in efforts by UNESCO, and perhaps even the Chinese government, to destroy the reputation of the reef by listing it as endangered.
      .
If UNESCO lists the reef as endangered, we can expect the North Queensland region to suffer.
While academics will continue to receive significant research grants (the Great Barrier Reef Foundation alone has half a billion to distribute), and the university board will bask in the glory, anyone in tourism, or connected to it, will lose.
      .
There may also be flow-on effects to other industries, like cane farming for example, which may be forced to adopt expensive new agricultural practices, but with no return in terms of the health of the reef, and a decrease in their ability to farm profitably.
      .
If you were going to establish the right of academic freedom in Australia’s universities, the High Court would not be your first recourse.
      .
In the first place, it is fearsomely expensive.
To get to this position Ridd has had to crowdfund $1.5 million, as well as tipping in some of his own money.
The university will face a similar bill, and a potential payout for wrongful dismissal.
      .
In the second place the success of the enterprise depends on the shaky foundation of the performance of two legal champions as judged by the bench of the High Court, and the actual legal points, while determinative of the case, may only tangentially touch on the real matters of principle.
      .
Stuart Wood AM QC for Ridd practices in industrial law while Bret Walker SC for JCU has a broader practice, most recently successfully defending Cardinal Pell in the High Court.
They’re both eminent, but is this form of settling a dispute much different from duelling where chance, as well as skill, can deliver the outcome?
      .
The major argument is essentially whether the Enterprise Agreement, an instrument of federal law, takes precedence over the Code of Conduct, an instrument of Queensland state law.
      .
Academic freedom, as well as intellectual freedom, are guaranteed in the EA, as is the right to participate in the decision-making processes of the university.
      .
Except that at one point the EA says that it encompasses the Code of Conduct, so the two documents are not completely separate, which led to some discussion as to how the EA and the Code were drafted, with both sides admitting the drafting could have been better.
      .
Ridd is a mild-mannered man, and his criticisms of his colleagues seemed to me to be mild as well.
He said things such as the Australian Institute for Marine Science “cannot be trusted”, and that many scientists working on the Great Barrier Reef are “emotionally attached” and “not objective”.
      .
For me, these are views one ought to be able to express in any workplace, let alone an academic one where conflict is part and parcel of the job.
      .
We will never know what the court thinks on these matters, because for tactical reasons, Ridd’s team decided to concede that he had breached the Code.
Their arguments were only directed to clauses 13 and 14 and 54 of the EA which governed academic freedom as well as confidentiality.
      .
So Ridd could lose, even though a reasonable person might conclude that his conduct hadn’t breached the Code. The EA forbids an academic from harassing, vilifying, bullying or intimidating, and it was common cause that Ridd had not done that, so what beyond that can the Code legitimately forbid?
      .
Ridd was also said to have brought the university into disrepute, but in part of his submission JCU’s counsel raised the issue of short-term and long-term reputational damage.
That seemed to be an “own goal”.
      .
Ridd’s actions were aimed at exposing poor science, which in the short-run might hurt the university’s reputation but must give it the long-run advantage of producing better science, and thus enhancing its reputation.
The whistle-blower isn’t the one bringing the institution into disrepute, it is the malefactor.
      .
The most puzzling thing about the affair is that neither the Queensland government, nor the federal government, have seen fit to investigate the underlying complaint.
This isn’t an issue that just touches the Great Barrier Reef.
      .
There is a replicability crisis in science that threatens the whole edifice.
The scientific method works because it delivers results, based on transparency.

As a community, we invest huge sums of money in universities on the basis that not only do they provide a public good, but that they increase the wealth of the country.
      .
Sloppy science is the equivalent of fraud.
When a senior member of an intellectual organisation blows the whistle on what he says is malpractice, takes the matter to the highest court in the land, and raises $1.5m on the way through, there must be a very strong prima facie case.
      .
If Ridd loses, and there is no government action to investigate possible malpractice, or shoddy research methods, then what academic will ever speak up in the future when they see colleagues failing to meet the standard?
      .
And if academics can’t criticise their colleagues, there will be a decline in standards as the least scrupulous academics set the tone for what others can get away with.
      .
The Ridd matter has been going on since 2015.
It’s long past time that the substantive matters should be investigated by a body with power to do so, and with an interest in getting them right, and that’s not the High Court of Australia.
      .

  49. Below is a copy of Sue Grey’s high court filing against the NZ government top brass (a great read). It is a multi faceted court case arguing the whole vaccine strategy and deployment. In the next weeks we are going to see this government exposed or some more very very creative lies. Hopefully the court system still has some integrity, there are many questions in the court filing that are going to pose difficult for the government to respond to.
