89-Year-Old Ross Perot Donated to President Trump’s Reelection Campaign Before His Death

In his last documented political act, self-made billionaire and two-time presidential candidate Ross Perot wrote out two checks to President Trump’s re-election campaign before succumbing to his battle with leukemia at the age of 89, according to a report.

Perot, who ran for president as a third-party candidate in 1992 and 1996, is largely credited with providing a road map for Trump’s presidential campaign.

Like Trump, Perot ran as a billionaire populist against the Republican establishment. His focus on the North American Free Trade Agreement – rather than the national debt – and his use of cable news for laying out his agenda were both familiar elements of Trump’s campaign.

As Democratic strategist James Carville put it in a 2016 podcast: “If Donald Trump is the Jesus of the disenchanted, displaced non-college white voter, then Perot was the John the Baptist of that sort of movement.”

    • Sadly, after he left the company he founded (EDS) became a mockery of this statement.

Not only did EDS form committees, it would form subcommittees to analyse every aspect of the ‘snake’. Government departments would be jealous of the sheer amount of bureaucracy EDS generated.

Once this strategy was adopted, EDS couldn’t turn a profit; they’d create a committee and requisite subcommittees to study the losses…only to recommend more bureaucracy. Only to be stunned that another quarter and another loss. And so back to another committee etc.

I believe that EDS post 2000 only had 1 profitable quarter. It was driven into the ground by extreme incompetence. When HP bought them out, they basically fired the entire management.

  1. Perot was a hell of a guy.
The LA times actually did a reasonable obit.

He succeeded in getting his (EDS staff) hostages out of Iran where the dithering swamp of Washington did not under peanut farmer Carter.
He reminded me a lot of Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart in look and feistiness.

He was a straight shooting humanitarian who got to the core of issues very quickly.
The EDS company he built up was very good then General Motors purchased it as part of their ‘diversity’. They got involved in business lines outside their expertise and it showed.

I think it is fair to say the world is a better place because of Ross Perot’s presence.
    RIP.
