The main Shia seminary is in Qom.

The death toll from #coronavirus is rising in #Iran, with #Qom, the country’s religious center, having the most reported deaths — 50 so far. Why aren’t Iranian officials taking immediate steps to protect the people of Qom? pic.twitter.com/irrarNyNEk

Radio Farda reported:

The Friday Prayer Imam of the religious city of Qom, the epicenter of coronavirus outbreak in Iran, told his congregation Saturday that U.S. President Donald Trump targeted the city with coronavirus “to damage its culture and honor”.

Most of the coronavirus cases in Iran include people living in Qom and those who have visited the religious city recently. These cases have no clear epidemiological link to the outbreak in China.

Qom is the religious capital of Iran, home to many seminaries and the Shrine of Masoumeh and a bastion for hardliners. The city’s economy revolves around the Shrine which thousands of pilgrims from Iran and other countries visit every day.

    • Doubtful that Iran would have any test kits for coronavirus, outside of Tehran.

No direct links to China, so it would seem that it has been there some time, not only incubating, but probably the disease was initially thought as just a flue or cold, as “God wills” until a pattern, & then the finger pointing.

Again the politics of censure-ship are well in place in China, and Iran.

Will increased censure-ship, through “hate speech laws” cause more problems in NZ?
A desire by authoritarians for control, to paint everything as being “for the good”, and what a wonderful utopia we will have.

        • Thanks RM
🙂 The 2nd cup of coffee has cleared some fog, as auto spell took me down that track.

Censure-ship, as Hilary Clinton when Secretary of State, wants to run things, as by shaming, to get round the non censorship, in the USA.

Almost a tongue twister, well still foggy here.

  1. It would be blasphemous to close mosques and madrassas in response to this, they should all come together and pray even more fervently, everything that happens is Allah’s will. We, in the civilized West, should not interfere. Their country, their rules.

Who’s going to draw the short straw & tell DPF & Hugzilla that someone has a worse case of TDS than them? 🙂
