KiwiBuild reset: 100,000 home target scrapped, $400m progressive ownership introduced

FFS what next?

KiwiBuild’s 100,000 homes target has been scrapped and will not be replaced as part of the Government’s sweeping project reset.

A reset of the affordable housing policy unveiled today makes major changes, including a $400m progressive ownership scheme for up to 4000 families and a shift for wider support for first-home buyers, so buyers with as little as a five per cent deposit will be eligible for Government-backed loans and KiwiSaver withdrawals.

The reset of the troubled policy sets no targets for numbers of homes built, instead promising a “significant” number of new affordable homes, with monthly dashboards published to keep the public informed.

Housing Minister Megan Woods said the 100,000 target was overly ambitious and had led to “contracts being signed in places where there was little first-home buyer demand”.

This is Woods speak saying Twitford was an idiot. WE could have saved the taxpayers millions if Liarbour would have listened to reason. NO one ever actually believed in their 100,000 houses target. Now they have no targets.

  1. Do you think Woody will last to the next election? I don’t see it.

  2. KiwiBuild reset: ‘Overly ambitious’ 100,000 houses in 10 years promise dropped, shared ownership schemes in

Video of the announcement by Megan Wood and Marama Davidson. Cindy has stepped away and put Marama in to take the fall if this latest scheme fails, afterall, it is a Greens policy that is being fullfilled with the new reset KiwiBuild which has allocated $400 million to support home ownership schemes such as rent-to-buy.

Marama looks like a fish out of water at the announcement.

  3. According to our good friend DPF his counter shows that they were close to 19000 short of the first years total of 10000. Well, perhaps the first 2 years totals?

    Worst government ever.
Mind you I wouldn’t want to have a Tory govt. like Britain. What a bunch of self-interested lobbyists in there. Britain needs to update eligibility and donation rules more than we do.
