
Export prices for lamb reached their highest point on record in the June 2019 quarter, according to new Statistics NZ data.
This level is the highest since the series began in 1982, and follows steady increases from the second half of 2016.
Overseas trade statistics manager Darren Allan said it isn’t just lamb fetching good prices.
“Both lamb and beef prices rose this quarter, up 4.7 percent and 5.3 percent, respectively, on the back of strong overseas demand” he said,
With the farm gate price approaching $9.00 a kg, I hate to think what the retail price will be.
I do like a good feed of fresh lamb and mint sauce. Just as well I can do deals to obtain fresh killed lamb, straight off the farm. nod-nod-wink-wink.
A long time coming from a farmers perspective. As the world wide production of food slows prices will only go higher.
People will always pay for quality product.
Pleasing to read and may the season continue to be a good one. We all do OK when things are going well on the farm and good prices for quality produce are realised on local and international markets.
Good news for farmers is good news for all of NZ.

But geez, go and buy a block of cheese these days ?
And why can they sell our meat and butter overseas cheaper than here!

China has been slaughtering its pigs and closing the piggeries because of swine flu. Chinese eat many millions of pigs a year. Dogs will soon be in short supply and you should make sure your fancy cat doesn’t stray at night.
Apparently venison prices have been great in the last 2 years as well.
