    • I can’t wait to see some wanker with a masters in political science or sociology line up with fifty others for a few hour’s work at KFC.

And watch the lowly 30 YO, student loan free plumber, whose hourly rate they still can’t afford to pay, drive past with his new van towing the latest twenty footer with twin 150’s hanging off the back off for another week’s fishing.

      Karma! 🙂

        • Sparkies can nearly match them. Three years ago when we were looking at buying a holiday retreat in the Far North we stayed a few weeks in a camping ground near the Karikari Peninsula where marlin & tuna gather in Autumn.

The muster at the camp included four skippers & crew of some of the flashest trailer craft you could see. Every day one chippie, two sparkies & a turd strangler plus crews would come in about sunset & spend the next thirty minutes on their phones explaining to their Auckland customers how stock shortages, traffic & absent staff were the reasons they hadn’t turned up on the site that day. Next day rinse & repeat.

Their work ethic was crap but no-one would have ever begrudged them top marks in overcharging & creative excuses. 🙂

          • Nasska….What you have so vividly described is a typical scene from my son’s life at this time of year. Fellow tradies with the latest in game fishing toys… you forgot to mention the vehicles pulling the flashest trailer craft…

That son is a diesel mechanic and he says if he had his time again, it would be as a chippie.

            • A good diesel mechanic will never be unemployed though if riches & the desire to feel needed are important to a young lad he should become an auto electrician. Useless ones are as thick on the ground as rocking horse shit but a good one is a treasure beyond all belief & well worth a dressed hogget as he drives out the gate.

Chippies either do well or go broke. There’s not much room in the average category. They’re not protected tradesmen like plumbers or electricians either.

              • I have a second son who is also a diesel mechanic, He has worked around the WA mines and off shore rigs. He was with me before the lockdown and was getting 2 or 3 phone calls a day from overseas HR people trying to recruit him.
I have met most of my boys mates, mainly through fishing. All successful tradies and salt of the earth good bastards. They all have in common a hate rid for this government and a despising of the PM.

  1. Those TV ads with the accountant father despising his son’s choice to go into a trade are so condescending and elitist. No wonder this country is in the crap with elitist lefty know it all’s with communication degrees believe their own bullshit have climbed aboard a party list and got themselves elected to run the country. 😕
