“MANAGE MY HEALTH” PATIENT DATA PORTAL HACK – TURNING INTO A HUGE DEAL… Consider the real life potential impacts on New Zealander’s resulting from hackers cracking into the largest Patient management portal in New Zealand. Manage My Health is a private company, but Te Whatu Ora (Health NZ) contracts their services. MMH provides an interface between doctors and patients…and a storage portal for every aspect of personal health data.
On December 31st the portal was hacked. Let’s summarise the facts as they currently stand.
*MMH state approximately 120,000 accounts have been hacked….but they are STILL not able to inform patients whether or not their account is one of them. *By January 2nd, patient identifiable health data had already been posted on the Dark Web. *Hackers have demanded a payment of a paltry US$60,000 in return for destroying the stolen data *Ransom payment due by Tuesday 6th January or patient data will be released on the web *Hackers (“Kazu”) claim they have stolen 400,000 patient data portals *Hackers state they will also SELL the stolen data if ransom not paid *Hackers state they are a business, active and successful in global hacks. They do this “for the money” *If they SELL the data, it includes: clinical notes, lab results, vaccination records, medical photographs and personal identification details, including names, birth dates, addresses, emails and phone numbers. *Hornby Community Board member went on line to check for himself (dark web), and he comments: “There’s people’s passports, there’s people’s ADHD documents from a psychiatrist, there’s pictures of people unclothed. It’s very personal data. And my concern as a patient would be, will someone blackmail people? Or try to extort them personally as well, if they don’t pay up?” IMPORTANT FOOTNOTE: Manage My Health contracts to Health NZ. A recent Official Information Application appears to confirm that Health NZ does not perform any security audits, or hold records of any security audits for Manage My Health

What I don’t get is they’re only demanding $60,000. Sounds like a bunch of kids did it.

Why all the hype about an injunction?
The hack it self was illegal to start with, or was it actually a legitimate act?
So was there sort of by invitation? just being a public pathway? or even being just in truth, in the public domain anyway?
Seems like some one is trying to cover up?
Really what is that injunction going to achieve?,
Stopping actual legitimate platforms, that were most unlikely to publish the raw data, details any way.
Though they may atomize, anomonize, & summarize the data & even anaylize it.
Smells of further a cover up, which has become the “normal” in NZ.

So the NZ public are only allowed to know, what, when the establishment allow them to know, as all will be revealed in 75 years etc..

Like gun law restrictions and buy backs, injunctions only work with law abiding people, not criminals.
