our beloved Jacinda Ardern, P. M. said that taking semi autos, and M.S.S.A.. firearms out of the hands of honest, law abiding firearms licence holding, N.Zers, will make N.Z. a safer place for us all to live. Well, correct me if I am wrong, but to make some where a safer place, there must be a threat to that safety. As I understand it, prior to the terrible events of march 15th in Christchurch, firearms related crime, and deaths involving firearms, in N.Z. was extremely low, somewhere around 1%, or so. 1% does not relate to a threat to the safety of N.Z.ers. So if there is no threat to be made safe from , what is Jacinda Ardern on about. If there is no threat, how can we be made safer ? This knee jerk legislation, is just our P.M. looking to rack up a few brownie points.

    • You are correct.

“In New Zealand, also with 4.7 million people, just nine people died in a gun-related homicide that year, New Zealand police statistics show. In fact, more people were killed in New Zealand after being stabbed (15 people in 2016). ”

It is also a fact that “illegal” firearms feature heavily as well.

By the way… “brownies” are the same colour as what she really generates.

      • Sir Thomas Thorpe got a good many things wrong in his infamous report but he was right about New Zealand’s firearms crime rate being “statistically insignificant” in spite of the best efforts of the media and the disgraceful Police Association to ramp up the fear among the general, uninformed, public.

  2. They might as well not have comments at all. It would be hard not to think that some of the positive comments are fake anyway, the negative comments, however, are more likely to be genuine, in my opinion anyway.

    • I agree. All legitimate comments or no comments at all.
Stuff is seriously compromised by the censoring and managing of the comments allowed at the moment. No comments should be their policy now – let readers make up their own minds.
Same goes for the endless left wing opinion pieces – or at least make it a requirement that opinion writers who are employed by political entities disclose this status.

  3. I would love to see the deleted comments. From the undeleted responses you can infer that they weren’t particularly profane or vile. Looks like Stuff just censoring stuff they don’t like. This is just one of the reasons I don’t read, let alone comment on, Stuff. The Horrid has been dead to me ever since it descended into tabloid hell.

  4. I thought “josephinef” had been identified as one of stuff’s journalists josephine franks. The immediacy of her replies and comments tends to support that.

It has to be conceded that labour do have the edge when it comes to “social media” influencing. We all laughingly commented at kiwiblog about the “interns” but it has been patently obvious for some time that they do in fact have a large “social media” department of posters ably supported by the vast bulk of the media.

Pisses me of a little but there is nothing stopping National and ACT getting a similar system underway.

“what’s in for wynston” ‘s party tried to flood the “talkback” waves in the lead up to the last election, with some success in my opinion.

    • I was surprised talking to David Seymour that they are not really aware of political support blogs such as YSB. Ed gave David a “YSB” card and invited him to submit a thread or comment. It will be a shame if he fails to take advantage of YSB to get Acts message out.

    • There is nothing stopping National or ACT apart from the desire to do so. They’re better supported in terms of funding than other political parties; so should have the capacity for this.

    • Well Tall Man that is a bloody good point about Labour having the edge when it comes to social media.

We see this the world over, that the fascist left has successfully infiltrated the ‘institutions’ of government. The average government department is populated 80% left of centre and SSC has driven incredibly hard to deepen that bias with their brutal drive on all things to do with diversidy. Schools are no longer centres of learning, but indoctrination and thought correction centres. The media is infested to the gills with simpering, fawning accolytes of the left – devoid of even the pretence of journalistic integrity and wrapped in cloying sanctimony and self-righteousness.

But you are right, there is a base of drones who seem very happy to slog away for the cause on either:
      – offence archaeology of everything said by the non-left
      or
      – pandering, simpering, worshipful commenting to create a continuous chattering of support.

Trump has successfully bypassed the traditional communication channels to speak truth to his base, and he’s also worked out the knack to get the bought and paid for leftist media to shrilly “trigger” seemingly on demand to ensure his base get ongoing confirmation of their bias. He has effectively, innoculated himself from anything that the media might accuse him of. More than half of the electorate in the US, now know in their bones that everything the media says is a lie. CNN has become a meme, a parody of a news channel. They have less than no credibility and they never will again.

Why is our National party and the UK Tory party so unable to use the same tools and deliver the same repeated hammer blows to the evil nihilistic left?

I suspect it’s because they are of the evil nihilistic left themselves and the blindness is on them too.

  6. We are basically now living in North Korea- Where any criticism of ‘Dear Leader’ is immediately censured.

  7. The Left believe speaking Leftism is freedom of speech. Anything else is blasphemy hate speech. You see this repeatedly whenever a non-Leftard government wins power with “Democracy has failed” chants. It’s only democracy when it is a one (Left-wing) Party State like North Korea.

While Stuff has token non-Leftard at the moment (e.g. Damien Grant), it’s only a matter of time before they decide even that is too much “hate”. I suspect they only keep him around to pretend they’re “balanced”.

  8. The Australian owned Nine subsidiary ‘Stuff’ has been circling the drain for the last few years.

Now, it has gone down the drain and and lives in the sewers.

Two thirds of their ‘stuff’is made up, misdirected, or conveniently slanted crap; the rest is just wees.

Their weather forecast may be their top performer at 40% correct.

    • And most of their opinion columns come directly from WaPo, Sydney Herald or one of the other subsidiaries all anti Trump bollocks and yet they continue to wonder why they rate lower than prostitutes or politicians every year in the trustworthy surveys

  9. And now you know why they also removed the voting system any positive COL comments were generally downvoted to oblivion but any comment saying National bots out in force or sinking the boot into anyone from the right totally acceptable, i think the Nat bot one gives you an insight into the left hive mind not only do they not value our opinions they go as far to insinuate we dont even exist, let’s hope the silent majority is not just a phenomenon that exists outside our shores otherwise this great country is fucked under this bunch of incompetents

Simon Bridges labels David Seymour’s free speech proposals ‘alluring’
    Zane Small

Simon Bridges has labelled David Seymour’s proposed Freedom to Speak Bill “alluring”, but wouldn’t confirm whether National would strike another deal with ACT in Epsom at the next election.

Bridges, the National Party leader, said ACT leader David Seymour’s comments about freedom of speech over the weekend were “very alluring”, adding: “I agree with him – I believe in what he’s saying.”

He told Magic Talk: “He’s very focused on certain aspects of freedom; the freedom of speech and the like, and if this Government moves against that, we’ll be right there with him on that.”
