Our Roads Are Fucked. ORAF

www.oraf.nz

Driving around on the roads in the past month has highlighted just how bad our roads have become since Liarbour has been the Government.

I am sure you have all come across similar roads in such a poor state of repair, that we need to highlight the problem and post photos of this damage.

Only by highlighting the extent of this problem might we get some improvement, but I will not be holding my breath. Send the link to all your friends and be amazed at the response.

  1. What a great idea Ed. Could be fun to see the photos of broken roading pouring into your website. Good luck.

You forgot to include the Greens who stated before the 2014 election they would not build any more roads. Mad JAG and her bunch are a dragnet on NZ roading infrastructure.

  2. In the south island if you drive south of dunedin and the roads get progressively worse, lumpy n bumpy, failed sealing jobs (milton resealing failed withon weeks) and just general lack of maintanence.
Just a few kms out of gore heading toward qtown is one of the most patchwork pieces of road ive driven on, patch on patch on patch, its bumpy, shithouse and been like that for pretty much the last 10yrs, they fix a pothole and a new one reappears sometimes the same day but always within 2 or 3 days its a fucking joke.

The photos are shit and dont show the worst parts, i cringed the other day when i drove past and they were fixing it as ive seen that over 20times already and its usually fucked within a week.
I drive a prado and even that was scraping through one of the sunken in potholes! At a guess there must be 60-70 patches of poor repair work to a stretch of road no more then 2km long, i used to live right beside it and watch them repair at 10am and it would be blown out by tea time. It needs dug up, drained and probably a layer of concrete under the surface.

  3. Is this for all roads in NZ or just state highways Ed? The reason I ask is that while SH2 in the Wairarapa is really bad in places the roads funded largely by the councils, in particular the Masterton DC, are like ploughed paddocks.

    • That happens to every government department or agency. Give it a fucking hori name and the next thing it’s paralyzed by ineptitude, financial incompetence, and scandal. Orange Tummy Ricky? Kanga Rower?

  4. Our cycle lanes are great.

Transport NZ are wanting to spend 2.7 million on a cycle crossing in Wellington. And then reduce the speed limit for people who aren’t pedophiles. Wellington Airport is opposing it as it’s on the road to the airport.

  5. Sparks Road in Christchurch, especially the long stretch between Hoon Hay Road and Henderson Road… it was overdue for proper maintenance and resurfacing. However they dug up one side of it and put in a double width cycle lane. They further reduced the width of the road with an unsightly series of kerbs to provide a buffer between the road and cycleway. Then to finish off they resurfaced the six inches or so next to the kerb and left the rest of the road like a lunar landscape (for want of a more original simile). It was in a poor state before: now you’d be better trying to traverse it with crampons and rope than a car.

I have to drive down this abomination regularly. Everybody who lives along that stretch of road now has a shit of a time getting in and out of their drives, a very busy road is narrow and lumpy and broken beyond belief, and I see fuck all cyclists using the cycleway. Fuck all! But wait, there’s more! Over summer all this new kerbing sprouted weeds a foot high, until the whole stretch of cycleway looked like a set from The Quiet Earth. The council are so busy paying six-figure salaries to useless bureaucrats that they can no longer afford to send out a man with a weedsprayer.
