The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is the brand’s most powerful car

This week, Ford announced that the 2020 Mustang Shelby will be equipped with the most powerful V8 engine “in the world,” making it the company’s highest performing street-legal car to date.

Though Ford earlier promised that the upcoming Mustang Shelby GT500 would be the most powerful car on the market when it launches in 2020, the company did not reveal exactly what that statement entailed. This week, however, Ford revealed the model’s engine specs: the supercharged V8 will be able to produce 760 horsepower and 625 lb.-ft of torque.

According to the company, these numbers make the engine “the most power- and torque-dense supercharged production V8 engine in the world” as well as making the 2020 GT500 “the most powerful street-legal Ford ever.”

The power that the model can put out exceeds that of Dodge’s Challenger SRT Hellcat and Porsche’s 918 Spyder. On the other hand, 760 hp is only about half the power produced by the Bugatti Chiron, a street-legal supercar powered by a W12.

The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is slated to launch this fall for an undisclosed price. With the 2019 version starting at $59,150 with a lower grade engine, the price tag of the 2020 edition is expected to be higher.

  1. That is a very sexy car. I don’t want to own one but I would certainly love to drive one on a long straight road.

    • My nephew gave me a voucher for Hampton downs racetrack. If you get the chance to go there, do it.

      • I will never own one as I would have to sell the house.
        Probably never sit in one!
But I sure would like to be standing on the side of the road, when one went past, FAST!

  2. I sure hope that Genter fuckwit who wants to control us on the roads reads this! I need that car…..! My dad’s got a Ford F-250 with a 460 cubic inch V8 with a a custom intake manifold on it and cranks out 500 hp. When he kicks the bucket that big truck is coming here!

    • I can’t find a link, but there were calls on TVNZ news last night from the trucking industry about the state of the surface of our roads and that transit is not funding much needed maintenance on repairing road surfaces. Truckies have been sending in photos of bad road surfaces for only a week and already have a large number of road surfaces in need of urgent repair of potholes. JAG doesn’t like roads so it seems she is not approving funding of repairs.

      • The Minister of Transport is Fail Twyford.
He scores an ‘F’ for Fail on both his portfolios Housing and Transport.

Genter is just a noisy Associate Minister of Transport (and Assoc Health)
Her specialty subject is ‘vacant lots’ !

  3. I once had the pleasure of driving a brand new Maserati V8- for about 15 km! A builder I knew traded a house for it. Yes, a house! Never heard such a beautiful noise in my life when I started the motor.

  4. The trouble is the fun police have long since won. I’d love that car. Where could I possibly enjoy it in NZ?

  5. Has the Mad Queen finished with the kids birthday party or does she need a day of work?
Most parents have the party on the weekend and go to work during the week!

  6. I had the pleasure of driving a 2017 5.0 litre Mustang GT last week…it put out approx 430 hp, from memory..OMG what a buzz. I might buy it and bugger the fun police. Why would I you may well ask 😉 Cause I can…that’s why.

Great weekend cruiser, and if you join a Mustang club, you can always stretch its legs at a track club day. Fantastic.

The new Shelby gives me a (shall we say, excites me).

  7. On this occasion I’ll refrain from dick swinging. I’ll go & hide in the garage with my 205hp V8 instead. 🙂

Since then trucks have gone all pc!

  9. I had high hopes for the Mustang when it was released in NZ. However, it soon became apparent that the people attracted to it ensured that it became the new Bogan car.
‘Stang’s are almost exclusively driven by either Sharon or Wayne from West Auckland, Upper Hutt, or any other working-class suburb. Sharon and Wayne like nothing better than putting on their black jeans and downing a Cody’s or two on a Friday night. Once a month they splash out and have a night out at the stock cars.
It’s hardly been a sales hit either, very few are seen on the road and those that one does see are often rental cars. On my last trip to the shit hole that is our capital city I was offered a free ‘upgrade’ when I went to pick up my rental car, they offered me a Mustang for the price of my boring Japanese sedan. I could not refuse fast enough.

    • Goodness, after actually driving a ‘stang’ I am about to buy one…I am now concerned, on your observations, I do not fit your stereotypical criteria.
      1. My name is neither Sharon nor Wayne
      2. I am not sure exactly what a bogun is, but I don’t think I am one
      3. I don’t live in any “ working class suburb” whatever that means.
      4. I don’t own any black jeans…but , hey, I could wear em.
      5. I have never drunk a cody’s But I do know what they are, does that qualify me?
      6. I like a wine on any night, not just Fridays.
      7. I do like stockies now and again..whew…I am in on that one

I am sure Ford is pissed off that your high hopes did not come to fruition, much sleep will be lost.

Oh and when I blast past ya, while you are driving your hired Toyota. I have high hopes that you choke on my dust. ?

      Love Lofty.
