Piarere Roundabout
NZTA
We’ve just finished two of the approach roads on the roundabout at the intersection of State Highways 1 and 29 in Piarere.
That means you can now use the new 60-metre roundabout from all three directions. We’d opened the roundabout back in September with a temporary layout in place while roadworkers continued building the roundabout’s permanent layout. Earlier this week we opened the permanent SH1 approach from Tīrau and the permanent SH29 approach from Tauranga.
The temporary Hamilton approach road will remain while roadworkers continue building the permanent approach – we expect this to be finished in early 2025. The former tie-in road for people coming from Tīrau is now an access lane for nearby properties.
We’re on track to finish all construction on the roundabout in mid-2025. The roundabout will improve efficiency, connectivity, and safety on this very important high-volume route.
Thanks very much for their patience while we’ve been working – stick to the temporary speed limits you see onsite and take extra care when travelling through the area while everyone adjusts to the new layout.

A design nightmare.
Designed by a mad hatter.
Is it better, well somewhat but, why was the Tga to Tirua not just a slip rd.
Why was Tirau to Hamilton not a slip road and why was the Ham to Tga not a slip road.
There was no need for any of these roads to go to the roundabout.
David Swap made a killing on this job. Be laughing all the way to his bank.
Meanwhile the designers will be off to Bali spending their spoils.
We should be looking hard at what these consultants get paid.
Getting pissed off with every road being in a strange language.
The new short road that bypasses the Inersection-from-Hell at Warkworth and cuts through to the Matakana road, has be called Te Honohono Ki Tai Rd. I mean FFS, are they just trying to fuck people off? Because it’s working.
Who has time to absorb all that on a road sign as you drive by. May as well be in Greek. FFS.
How do they fit that on a sign with english too?
They don’t.
And here I was Saggy, just thinking that “Te Honohono Ki Tai Rd” just rolled off the tongue. Pure poetry in motion.
Just shows how out of touch one gets living in the darkest of dark King Country.///

Yeah well they have managed to spend a shit load on that road and its still one lane in many places.
Is there a reason why they just can’t do it properly?
And the Tauranga road still sends you over the kaimais.
A better solution is to have a road from Tauriko over the Mamakus, which are essentially fla, using the road corridor that has been there for about 70 years. Comes out to the state hiway towards Tokoroa, which is where most of the heavy loogers come from.
Save millions everyday because it would be way shorter and stop the need to climb a mountain unnecessarily.
If we remove most of the containers from our port, which will eventually happen and raill in the logs as we should then that will leave the road to be better used by the travelling public.

Thoughts on the Tauranga Container Terminal and the POT.
Sad when ya never leave a desk to look around before you plan.
Will they need it when Kinleith closes?
