WE need to make sure that they hear our opinions about this.

I will be saying how the blame for this can be pointed directly at our Part Time Prime Minister and her compliant police force. By taking away the ability of the police to visually and in person to vet each applicant for a gun licence, they enabled Tarrant to obtain the guns.

I bet they have been told already the result the Government is expecting.

  1. Glad you’re onto it Ed. It is important to point out that time is of the essence since submissions close this Friday.

  2. For the safety of society those targeted for removal of guns by our police force should be the criminals and gangs not the licensed firearm owners. Loosening the licensing requirements so arms officers do not have to eyeball the license applicant is to blame for Tarrant gaining his license soon after his arrival in NZ. The good men and women of NZ are not the problem.

  3. I was listening to the radio about school lockdowns. The biggest problem I have with this whole thing is that the cops think they know best, always. I did counter-terrorism, urban, training in South Africa during my military training and was trained by a CO that had been to Belfast to receive training with the British Army. And when I see police responses in New Zealand, I have grave doubts about their capacity to do the right thing. The big problem is we have so few real events. Most call-outs involve umbrellas or items that look like guns. So when a real terrorist event occurred, it took ages to find and detain the guy (who should have been shot, not arrested). I saw video footage of cops trying to shoot a gangster’s dog once. Farcical would not be a good description, it was pathetic. I know many frontline cops are doing a great job, and it’s not them I am having a go at, but the top brass who always know best and some of the decisions they make in a crisis situation. Pike River is another example. After the first explosion, the mine would have been safe for rescue teams to go in, but the cops took over and we know the rest.

  4. I have no knowledge of the Norwegian “experts” the dashing duo consulted on their no doubt expensive jaunt to Norway and Britain but some of the people they interviewed in Britain, especially Niel Basu and Bernard Hyphen Hough, makes it look like they were more concerned to talk with clowns than with people who actually know something about the subject.

  5. The indecent haste, wilfully setting democratic process aside, branding Licenced firearms owners negatively and misleading the house and the public remains an issue. Especially so given all that happened prior to the Royal Commission even taking their information gathering trip to Norway or even commenced drafting a response.

Norway? I did not need them to make a trip to Norway.
