Public Resignation by Matt King from National Party Over Its Pro-Mandate Position

The Daily Examiner

“A common phrase in politics is that politics is about people. That’s my driver for getting involved and making a stand.

During recent months, and after careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that my values are not aligned with the current position of the National Party. One of the Party’s values that always resonated deeply with me, was that of personal responsibility – individual freedom and choice. The pro-mandate stance of the National Party is not one that I support, and I have therefore made the decision to resign my membership with the National Party.

I was an MP from 2017-20, the greatest honour of my life. I have friends and former colleagues in the National Party that I continue to have a strong sense of respect for, and I still wish them the very best.”

Now watch the Nats scramble to try and head off the avalanche of members from their yesterday’s party to a new centre-right one that will lap up all the pissed-off National and ACT voters.

Move over Drunken dwarf and let a real man take the lead.

Photo from Picton today. Not the best but must stress this is probably a third of the vehicles that are down there. The whole area has vehicles parked on the road around the reserve.

Mallard you wanker, turn off the sprinklers.

  1. As I posted on HYS:
Well done Matt! You have shown personal integrity and grit resigning from the bland, stand for nothing Nats. You have done the right thing. This is not the end. You have gained immense support for standing up for the people of NZ and Northland. Best wishes for a fantastic future!

Looking forward to you bringing positive outcomes to NZ politics Matt. More hope than we had yesterday.

  2. A couple of months ago I found Matt’s email address and I sent him a message of support over something or other he had said (I forget what exactly now).

To my delight and surprise he took the trouble to phone me to discuss it and we’ve been in occasional phone and text contact since.

He’s a great guy. Moral and clear thinking with a genuinely warm personality and a focus on doing what is right in the service of freedom and democracy.

I think Matt King will be a lightening rod in coming months and he will attract huge numbers of disaffected National and ACT voters who up until now have sensed that their parties have failed them but haven’t known where to turn.
