Cindy completely missed the significance of the D-Day Commemorations. The sacrifice by hundreds of allied troops wasn’t about YOU sweetie. We expect our leaders to represent us at poignant reminders of our history.
I was thinking about this a bit. It would have been surreal for us here in NZ and at arm’s length, Canada too to a degree although they did train a lot of pilots. Even the Yanks (is that offensive?) didn’t fight on their shores. They all still showed up to honour their dead.
Britain and Europe really knew that it was all on. When you think how long it took the news to travel back here, a particular threat was long past or secret yet there, there were bombings and bomb shelters, the prospect of death daily. Keep Calm and Carry On and all of that. Real rationing.
When all of the veterans are gone, will there still be the same level of remembrance?
And this was the 75th Anniversary, it was a big deal. How can it not be big news, that strikes at the heart for me. My grandfather served in the Pacific in WWII, I never remember him speaking about it, and he got very ordinary medals, but the Auckland Memorial Museum was happy to have them and put them in their display cases.
My family has WWI letters being digitized in Palmerston North from Gallipoli, the Wellington Regiment.
It is just inconceivable to me that she didn’t ‘rate’ it, as worthy of her time.
A conscientious objector as a PM?
Our commander in chief could have popped over to Iraq and seen the troops and given them the news of their repatriation in person.

I’m annoyed that our Prime Minister didn’t see fit to represent New Zealand as she is paid to do, but I’m more than happy not to be represented anywhere, ever, by a silly little girl in her stupid ankle boots and her uncouth handbag with kid in tow.
Are you really surprised? She’s from total scummy heritage – Helen and Phil spat at veterans coming home from Vietnam. Aligning yourself to that standard of human makes disrespecting the armed forces par for the course.
The increase in defence budget was all about appeasing Winnie the Pooh and Ron “Skid” Marks.
I hope she is just like JFK and gets well you know….

I really hope so.

Which raises the question. What would have happened if Cindy was at the D Day event?
Would Robbo and Little have been bitch slapping each other?
Yes, even the Germans celebrate D Day.
Nazi sympathisers OTOH wouldn’t want to be there to celebrate…
Is that Dame Patsy Reddy in between the Queen and Merkel?
