The Truth about gun control

If you make firearms illegal then only the criminals will have guns. Why do lefties want us to be easy prey for the scum in society?

Who thought taking guns off peaceful users was a good Idea?

Oh that’s right, the majority of our MP’s. National should be ashamed at their support for this knee jerk reaction.

  1. The argument about gun control should be about how good your aim is. Instead it’s some emotional BS.

Your last picture nails it perfectly “The only reason ANY politician promotes restricted public access to fire arms is because they intend to do things for which they should rightly be shot” (quoting just in case the picture somehow disappears).

In the Middle Ages, the difference between a free man and not was being able to wear a weapon (usually a knife) in public. The forefathers of the serfs gave up their weapons for safety (their lord would protect them).

While Hayek’s Road to Serfdom is primarily about economics, the title is eerily similar to other aspects of life in the West.

  2. If you plan to have a firearm for protection, you have to have the ability to look at a person, probably in the eyes, point this firearm at them, pull the trigger, watch as a part of their body (preferably the head) explodes in front if your face and watch the life leave their eyes.
This is not an easy thing to do and it forever changes you.
We’d all like to think it’s easy if we are defending ourselves and our loved ones, but unless you have grown up both with owning and using guns AND with the belief, make that certainty, that you have an absolute responsibility to kill to protect, it’s not.
Saying that, if I was a criminal, and I was facing someone holding a gun, I wouldn’t want to gamble on them not pulling the trigger.

    • While I understand your argument, people generally act differently when their lives, families or possessions are at risk. A father may be a resolute pacifist until his daughter is threatened for example. So I disagree with your assessment. Sure, under normal circumstances what you say is true, but preservation of life is not such a circumstance.

Your last sentence is usually true. Criminals are like predators: they prefer going after easy prey. Having a gun stops you being easy prey. It’s something all tyrants have implicitly understood: disarm the population to make them easy prey. As Niccolò Machiavelli remarked “Because there is nothing proportionate between the armed and the unarmed; and it is not reasonable that he who is armed should yield obedience willingly to him who is unarmed, or that the unarmed man should be secure among armed servants”.

  4. I’m right of centre, I despise socialists, I value hard work, individual responsibility and property rights. Given the choice of Trump or the hideous and corrupt Clinton thing, I would always vote Trump.
I’m almost always going to support things that the right hold dear save for two issues. The first of which is a religion which is undoubtedly the root of all evil. The second being gun laws.
Only a complete moron thinks that the answer to gun crime is more guns, any man who thinks that he ‘needs’ a military assault weapon must have the worlds smallest penis.
Very few people in society need guns, the less of them there are the safer we all are.

    • Reminds me of the Joke ? Big Black dude with gun enters McDonalds and demands cashier hands over cash – patrons and staff terrified – cashier moves away from till and dude leaps over counter but stumbles, on regaining his feet he is confronted by 50 patrons all pointing guns at him.

    • If you’re not a socialist, why do you use the socialist argument of ‘need’?

True, most people don’t need a gun but so what? How is that even an argument?

Do you need to eat three or more meals a day?

Do you need to drink beer or whatever your favourite alcohol is? Do you need to drink anything more than water?

Do you need to eat meat?

Do you need a second pair of shoes?

Do you really need a computer?

Do you need the house you live in when a single room shack would suffice?

Do you see where I’m going with this?

      • No Colinxy, I do not see where you are going with this. I ‘need’ to breath, if I use your logic that makes me a socialist. You and your ilk are no better than the socialists or that idiot Redbaiter. You allow no room for departure from the accepted line and no tolerance for those who agree with you on every other matter. We are NOT the USA thank fuck, those who look longingly at the stupid Yankee gun laws demonstrate their own inadequacy.

        • No, you’re using socialist arguments to try and win. It’s a weak argument and that’s what I tried to point out.

Yes, you need to breath, you need to eat, drink and to have shelter. Apart from that, you don’t need anything.

If you want to institute the ‘no need for guns’, that style of argument can be levelled at you for pretty much every part of your life.

Need is embedded into the socialist doctrine. Here’s its byline “From each according to his ability to each according to his need“. It’s why socialist utopias are such shit holes. What people want and what people need are quite different and the State only has to provide ‘need’ according to its attitudes (as in, you need f-all food and can wait for it).

If I want a gun, I want a gun. It’s interesting to note that to achieve socialist utopia, the State needs to get rid of guns. Which of course, goes against your argument “You and your ilk are no better than the socialists…”. You really need to think your arguments through a bit better.

Basically, what I’m saying is, use a better argument.

As Holy has pointed out, since you’re using the USA as your backdrop, the worst places in the USA for gun violence are the places with the most gun control. Conversely, the least gun violent areas are generally the ones with the most liberal gun laws. As in, if you want it, you can have it. It’s amazing how that goes against your narrative.

  5. I bet that nice Indian couple running a dairy down the road and just got bashed and robbed by a scumbag for a pack of ciggies, would disagree with you. A gun would come in VERY handy in such an instance. We’re told to obey and wait for the cops to show up with a clipboard. Pathetic.

    • A volley from a 20 Gauge shotgun on the way out would be a long term reminder of the pain and humiliation of having the pellets removed from his arse and the newspaper reports in his local paper of his failed robbery.

  7. I also spent a few months in Israel, every person over the age of 18 is trained to kill and likely armed. They carry every day the risk they may have to step out of their place of work and into a war, so they are always prepared.
Did I feel unsafe there? Hell no! Safest place I found in my travels.
You don’t tend to get assholes trying send robbery, as it’s likely the person they may try to rob is better armed and likely better trained than they are.
In that case, more guns was the answer, but they are also conditioned to shoot to kill and feel nothing but pride after.

  8. Most USA deaths ( about 2/3rds) are suicide. Switzerland is similar to Israel, in that every male does military training and keeps a weapon at home. Switzerland is never in the news for gun-related issues. Compulsory military training has one positive side effect in that it makes one more gun safety aware. One armed person in the Christchurch Mosque would have resulted in a lower death toll. Terrorists and nutters tend to attack targets that offer the least resistance.
