Long term parking
Car left at airport in long term parking. Car gets broken into. Using the information on the cars registration the offenders drove the car to the owner’s home and burgled it. It was very easy because the garage door opener was also in the car.
Cell Phone
Lady has handbag stolen. Bag contained cell phone, credit card, wallet etc. Lady had all relevant names of friends and relations listed on her phone. Twenty minutes later, lady calls husband to tell him. Husband says, ” Oh yes I got a txt from you asking about our PIN number a little while ago and I replied. By the time the couple got to the bank they found the offender had withdrawn all their money.
Regarding the cell phone, though not specific to it. Always use an alternative communication system when passing PINs or passwords. So if asked for a PIN by txt, even by a loved one, don’t send the PIN back by txt. You might send it via email for example (though that’s harder to do these days since many cellphones also have email set up), though a phone call might be in order for verbal communication especially if the PIN# is required in a hurry.
Makes me want to swear! Life is difficult enough without pond scum and their criminal sense of entitlement pissing all over your life.
It doesn’t help when we have a “hug a criminal” government.
A few years back someone tried to scam my very elderly grandparents by claiming he was their grandson stuck overseas and had his wallet and passport stolen, and needed $$$ immediately. It was not unusual for him to travel overseas for work, so that was initially believable. The creepy part is the sucker knew my cousin had three kids! My grandmother got suspicious when the caller couldn’t name the kids. She hung up. There is true scum out there.
