Housing Minister Phil Twyford’s Waterloo: Will KiwiBuild cost him?

When you look at that headline, ask yourself, “Cost Him?” What about the long suffering taxpayer.

Kiwibuild has become symbolic of Liabour’s credibility when it comes to deliver on it’s pre election promises.

Back in 2016, the NZ Herald political editor wrote that Phil Twyford’s own political career followed a parallel trajectory to the Auckland housing market.

As house prices soared, so did Twyford’s political stocks as Liabour’s housing spokesman in Opposition.

That housing market has now soured, and so too have Twyford’s stocks as he battles to deliver what Liabour promised before the last election.

Only yesterday we saw 7 unsold houses in Canterbury. Why do they remain unsold in our second biggest city?

I am sure he could be sent to a liabour sex camp for rest and recalibration.

  1. Who do they replace him with?
After all that puddle is not getting any deeper!
You could only replace him with someone who is going to bail at the first election!
Why, because no one would want that job after him. It’s like holding the shitty end of the stick!
If he was to be replaced, it means he’s out of here!
He couldn’t handle going to the backbenchers after it’s all about me! me! me!
There one be one good thing thou. Never seen again and not sought out for comment!
Definately not getting a job for Helun CLark!

    • I met and dealt with Twitford in the mid 1990s when he was with OxFam.
The spots on that leopard have not changed.

      Blind arrogance and a disconnect.
Who would skite about their past as being a journalist, unionist and NGO operator (OxFam sex abuse allegations in vulnerable societies) in their CV, and expect to be accepted in decent society?

Add to that CV: loud mouth in opposition and a massive failure on a Ministerial salary.
      Oh, and chinese sounding names!

    • And that underscores how completely biased the media filth are.
      Sadly, NZ is not alone.
So called democracies have dreadfully biased lying media filth: AU; UK;US
Media are not watchdogs..more like rutting mutts.

    • Yep that’s the way it is going to go. It will be allowed to slide into the background with the new wellness crap taking over. Re calibrated because they can’t sell anything so therefore the shortage doesn’t exist.

  2. If the argument is that Twitford is incompetent and has not achieved anything apart from spending taxpayer money like Monopoly money then the whole CoL all deserve to go for incompetence and lack of any achievement.

  3. Twitford isn’t going anywhere. His incompetence is mind-boggling, but still within parameters for this astonishingly inept government. Everything they’ve touched has turned to shit, it’s the new normal, and on their relative scale of idiocy Twitford is yet to reach sacking level.

      • Edit again.
No matter what happens Phail is out at the next election. He’s tainted, damaged too much.
He can never comeback from this. Not even to get a plum job on working groups, committes,
certainly not on $5,000 a day. He’s history! Don’t let the door hit in the arse on the way out!
