It’s just a political stunt, as deforestation, ground water extraction, heavy metal pollution, plastics production, micro plastic waste, oil consumption, co2 emissions, … are all forecast to increase for a century, simply as the Earths population is expanding, and to sustain a human life there’s an energy and resource threshold that can’t be beaten, to provide at least a subsistence level of water, food, clothing, accommodation, medical care, education, employment, …. to the fertile multitude. Which NZ, along with the industrialised Western world, will play little part in, and will just observe, if we continue to sell the drugs to support the growth, and fund support programmes that are intended to raise productivity, and resource consumption in the developing world, to alleviate poverty, as all consumption requires both energy and resources. So:

will undoubtably make the place far less pleasant to live in, as there’s not the political will / moral courage to permit, or to deliberately induce a Malthusian catastrophe, to half the Globes Human population, to give other species a chance, and offer a sustainable lifestyle to the remaining Human population. There’s not even the Political will to asses the environmental/ moral hazard associated with current Government programmes.
Here in New Zealand we are not any where near the top emitters. So why are we being forced to worry about this non event?

I don’t think we need to worry about inducing a Malthusian catastrophe, I suspect it will arrive on it’s own possibly triggered by the coming Grand Solar Minimum. Those who are prepared – and New Zealand as a country ought to be preparing – should welcome it.

I’ve read quite a bit on Charles’ prognostications and he really comes across as someone who disdains common people. Be it with sayings that people are no longer willing to do the ‘gross’ jobs anymore. Gloating that one of his cars runs on wine. Despising cheap air travel as it allows anyone to go on holiday etc.

If this government was seriouse about climate change the Mad Queen would not go on shopiing junkets around the world on her own private jet. She would atleast fly comercial! Nor would she use the private jet and yacht to go on holiday in the islands!
I do not accept our New Zealand contribution to the small amount of human induced elements to climate change warrants any economic impact on taxpayers and citizens of this country. Climate change happens as it has happened for Millenia. It will keep on happening whatever the human race determines. We will never control the Sun and we will never alter the influence the Sun has on the climate of this planet.
Declaring a climate emergency is a nonsense at local or national level. It is a ploy to further the climate change scam being promoted internationally. The reasons are varied but none are helpful to the working family paying their way in this country.
I have long ago given up reading the daily letter of doom from a local enthusiastic correspondent to our newspaper. That school children are encouraged to follow shows the depth of the scam and alarm spreading. That school children are being told they need to act as adults have not is scaremongering and not helpful in maintaining a stable community.
I do see an issue in overpopulation. Traffic constipation is an in your face example but serious issues such as clean water supply will bite in time where they have not already done so. Getting excrement and waste treated is an issue in our largest city and small townships.
I reject the notion that declaring an emergency is a solution to problems yet to occur. Natural climate change will occur and we will need to use our human capacity to adapt. Writing regulatory plans, ripping off rate and taxpayers, and scaring school children is not a solution.
I have always thought that it is unfair to single out China or NZ.
China makes just about all the stuff the world uses,so their emmisison are on behalf of evreyone.
Likewise, NZ produces a lot of food for other people.
These climate change emergency’s and the alarmist views of immiment doom, are just what we need.
