Last night I was out for a few drinks. One thing led to another, and I had a few too many beers and then went on to Whiskey. Not a good idea. Knowing I was over the limit, I decided to leave my car where it was and took a bus home. Sure enough, I passed a Police checkpoint where they were pulling over drivers and performing breathalyser tests. Because I was in a bus, they just waved it past.
I arrived home safely and without incident, which was a real surprise as I’ve never driven a bus before and I am not even sure where I got it from.

KiwiStar Optics formerly sat under Callaghan Innovation, a Crown entity designed to develop cutting-edge technology that can be commercialised and sold.
The John Key Government looked at privatising the firm, a move that was opposed by Labour at the time.
In Government, however, Labour reversed its position and quietly allowed the firm to be sold. At the time of the sale, Research, Science and Development Minister Megan Woods had responsibility for Callaghan and the sale.
No ministerial press release was ever published, and the transaction went largely unnoticed in local media. The sale raised such a small sum, EOS had to declare in its financial statements that it had made a “bargain purchase” in which the KiwiStar assets it had acquired were worth more than the sum it paid, which was about A$400,000 ($450,000).
Woods told the Herald that KiwiStar was “sold with the intention that it would continue its work in high-quality precision optics for the space industry. It would be incredibly disappointing to find that the company was involved in the manufacture of weapons that caused widespread suffering of civilians, as we have seen in Gaza”.

Similarly for installed apps – if a remote desktop app. has been installed and the biometrics don’t line up with “your” markers, then it’s probably a scammer using your device.
Honestly, it’s amazing tech. and if you want to blame anyone for banks adding it, blame the government, as they changed the rules around banks paying out scammed customers.
Ultimately, if a bank pays out more because people are fuckwits (and honestly, many are), then that’s going to be reflected in everyone else’s mortgage interest rates and interest rates. Is that what you want? To pay for fuckwits to be fuckwits?
I know plenty about the system and I’d be more than happy to give the banking app. the necessary permissions. People need to stop scaremongering.

The BNZ is trying to force me to buy a $tablet$, or some fancy $smart$ phone, just so I can I then do the up grade from the 2 factor identification to down loading apps.
Supposedly the be all & end all.
Then in one of their warnings about scams, then they say do not allow apps that may gander through your tech gadget to be be down loaded.
In my small town in the past 6 months a number of people have been scammed $1000’s.
One was a retired school bursar, which one would have though had some nouse about financials and computers. etc..
I have major issues on the limits, which though substantial, going over it all have to be checked & confirmed.
At this stage I do notice doing that transaction to pay is done with the bank teller, at least they have not put a 24 hour lock on my account for other transactions.
A damm hassle to create a new payee, and even the bank tellers can not get it right so that it would end up in my “saved payees”, as I see I have to back into town again to wind them up.
Then again go throught identification rigamorals, plus sign off on whether the money is an investment or whatever.
None of their damm business.
I often now write a small comment about this, while waiting in the queue & give it to the teller, telling her it is nothing personal but make it known more higher up in the banking system.

It has cost me, a laptop, when forced to digital banking.
I got a computer shop to clean, upgrade a few years ago, and I dedicated for only banking purposes. and their 2 factor card ID.
So No googling, or clicking on things of news or weather that would pop up..
No emails received or sent !
Though I do feel pissed off on how now & again the computer needs to upgrade or self clean or whatever.
The other day the kindly bank teller told me it cost about $500 to buy an Apple tablet. that they had on the bench for people to use.
.…. Then in one of their BNZ warnings about scams, then they say do not allow apps that may gander through or possiblely alter systems of your tech gadget to be be down loaded. ….
So how does one know when apps are already pre-loaded, and somehow I have heard that those apps can piggy back on others, & others appear in upgrades of sorts.
And since found out that some one was totally surprized when the gadget became very slow, and the brother-in-law found 30 – 40 other apps that he had no awareness of being loaded.
So what is it, when I ask to confirm a bank account number & the supposed Privacy stops them.
A fucken nonsense as anybody who received a cheque from me, a few years ago, then knew my bank account number.

I have challenged companies & the banks, on what is going on about these numbers and the advice of banks was shit, and the best way of was not to pay, ring & tell them, put it into the post again, deduct what interest they charge in the meantime.

Still the only access is via “Saved Payees”.
The worst scare mongerers are the banks themselves, , with their forever ongoing “notifications” “Beware of Scams” “Warning” etc., that keep popping up, and while I am trying to make payments.
That makes it completely circuitious, looping the loop, starting again, having to refresh, and then having to log in again to regain the page or the stage where I was at. !!!!
