Konstantin Kisin on the terrifying shift in the West:
“Freedom of speech — once the cornerstone of Western civilization — is now treated as a right-wing value.”
The radical left must shut down dissent because their ideas “crumble like a house of cards” when challenged with facts or logic.
Challenge intersectionality, structures of oppression, or any part of the narrative → you’re automatically evil, racist, white supremacist.
“White supremacist” used to mean people who proudly admitted it.
Now it’s a label for anyone who disagrees.
From someone who fled a society without free speech: this reversal is insane.
When did defending free speech become “conservative”?
There is a ratshit campaign over the past few years by Australia, Canada, UK, & many in the EU, as is NZ, all leveraging, looking at each others precedences, to bring in more controls.
…… Civil liberties organisation PILLAR (Protecting Individual Life, Liberty and Rights) has announced three major campaigns for 2026,—
warning that New Zealand is drifting toward increased censorship, surveillance, and political control. …..
…… proposals such as a U16 social media ban, an Online Safety Commissioner, and expanded digital ID systems mark a turning point for how New Zealanders live, speak, and participate in public life.
“These policies are being sold as safety and convenience, but they come at the cost of freedom,” ….
https://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/PO2601/S00021/pillar-launches-2026-campaigns-to-push-back-against-growing-state-control.htm
The recent mismanagement of computerized health systems here in NZ are also being leveraged & used, to bring in much further controls,as the system doubles down, to also cover up for their follies.
The left (or lets just name them what they are communists) manipulate the unwary with their RIDICULOUSLY HYSTERICAL HOWLING of everyday normal behaviour now deemed by them the opposite of what it is. This is to unsettle and corral dissenting voices back into the herd. Communists call anyone who disagrees with them fascist, nazi, racist, etc. At the same time they pay communist radicals to protests, agitate, become violent to reinforce that times have changed and we must too.
HOLD THE LINE.

Cancelling celebrities is a major win by the vocal hysterics but Megyn Kelly refuses to play their silly came. Megyn who supported Jewish rights is being targeted for anti-semitism by radical jews and is fighting back.

The question of tolerance?
Meanwhile, New South Wales Premier Chris Means unveiled new rules that allow local councils to cut off electricity and water to illegal prayer rooms and impose heavier fines, as part of measures to crack down on “hate preachers”.
Means explained that the move was prompted by difficulties in closing a Muslim prayer hall in Sydney linked to a cleric who a court found had made statements that intimidated Australians of the Jewish faith.
The mayor of Fairfield, a western suburb of Sydney with a large Muslim community, disagrees, saying councils should not be responsible for determining what constitutes hate speech.
“Freedom of speech is something that should always be allowed, as long as it’s done in a peaceful manner,” Mayor Frank Carbone told Reuters.

The real point is that one should be able to bring up issues about the koran, hadith, or Talmud, and so many more can become educated & understand what it actually says & means.
So that blasphemy, mischief laws can not be used to shut down free speech by t the offended.
Put that into the toolkit of politicians, then see it tweaked, extended, new definitions, etc… to rule & control over many people
Apparently Florida has passed anti-semitism laws to prevent criticism of Jews. How is that any different from muslims demanding hate speech laws?
This preciousness is getting ridiculous.
White supremacy is rebadged from Hans chauvinism via Mao Zedong, and Great Russian chauvinism via Lenin.
As for free speech, etc., that’s the playbook from Repressive Tolerance (Herbert Marcuse).
The Right must be censored and even pre censored.
The Left can do whatever they like. Only their causes have “free speech” and their violence is “not violence”.
I intend on posting an essay on the latter topic later this week: Leftists bathe in Hypocrisy.
When people stopped claiming their right to be free and decided that the state could provide for them.
The left moved in to think for them.
Then punish the people for thinking for themselves!
Wonder what Jevon’s doing today.

https://youtube.com/shorts/OvKM9GVsc-w?si=tZ_lWfSMJRWLxttX
I was sitting in the departure area at Christchurch Airport yesterday morning. Decided to grab a pie from a food outfit called Touto Touto or something like that. Nice pie and good coffee, but I couldn’t help but notice everything on the menu was in Maori as well as English. Looking around every second person was speaking a different language and probably wouldn’t have a clue what Maori was, any Kiwis there probably didn’t speak the lingo and just wanted to get the hell out of there. A very expensive bout of virtue signaling catering for a very small percentage of the market no doubt at my expense. I’ve never met a Maori who couldn’t order a pie in English, the only good news is I now know how to order green tea in Maori. What an absolute joke.
The only function of bilingual signage is to inform people who do not understand the language.
Since the last mono-lingual speak of Maori died over 100 years ago, the only purpose of bilingual signage where one text is above the other, in a bolder and larger font, is to virtue signal and “speak of power for the oppressed” (which is a Marxist tactic of social division if there ever was one).
Odakyu-sen;— As always appreciate your succinct points.
….. the only purpose of bilingual signage …. …. to virtue signal and “speak of power for the oppressed” (which is a Marxist tactic of social division if there ever was one).
The systemic virtue signal, in the guise as being a theme of that cafe, is just a piece of the mosaic as mentioned in this comment thread with further links.

Which reveals the full action taking place, the plan that reveals the full mosaic picture, a guide to 2040 for NZ.
Which is just a mosaic part of the goals to an even larger form of some various collective controlling global Marxism.
Hopefully it’s just a passing fad. If I were in your situation, I would have taken my cash elsewhere. I don’t buy into this maori shit. We are all New Zealanders. Sure, do whatever you do in your own fucking time, but don’t make the rest of us join in. To be honest, most of us don’t give a fuck about maori culture. YOU do…but WE dont.
Yeah but is’s always different when lefties do it.
Lost in Translation – Divorce Court
A woman sat before the judge, who was reviewing her pending divorce.
“Ma’am,” the judge began, “what are the grounds for your divorce?”
She smiled politely. “Oh, about four acres… with a nice little house in the middle. There’s even a stream out back.”
The judge blinked. “No, I mean the foundation of this case.”
“Oh, that’s concrete, brick, and mortar,” she replied matter-of-factly.
Suppressing a sigh, he tried again. “What are your relations like?”
“Well,” she said, “I’ve got an aunt and uncle here in town. My husband’s parents live here too.”
The judge rubbed his temples. “Do you have a real grudge?”
“No, sir. We’ve got a two-car carport. Never saw the need for a grudge.”
The courtroom stifled a laugh. The judge leaned forward. “Ma’am, is there any infidelity in your marriage?”
“Yes,” she said, nodding. “Our son and daughter both have stereos. Loud ones. We don’t like the music, but I suppose you could call that infidelity.”
By now the judge’s patience was thinning. “Does your husband ever beat you up?”
“Oh, yes,” she replied cheerfully. “About twice a week he gets up earlier than I do.”
The judge finally threw down his pen. “Lady, for heaven’s sake—why do you want a divorce?”
Her eyes widened. “Me? I don’t want a divorce! Never did. My husband’s the one who wants it. Says he can’t communicate with me!”
Will Britain get a lesson in Russian?
One hypersonic missile on the House of Parliament would be a suitable reply.
UK believes it can seize any tanker under Russia sanctions – BBC
London reportedly wants to deploy forces to target what it claims is Moscow’s “shadow fleet,” state broadcaster BBC has reported
The British government believes it has found a legal way for its military to seize any vessels in UK waters that it suspects of being part of a so-called ‘shadow fleet’, state broadcaster BBC has reported.
The move is expected to target Russia, Iran and Venezuela, all of whom the UK claims use third-party vessels to circumvent Western sanctions, according to the report.
Britain’s 2018 Sanctions and Money Laundering Act initially allowed London to impose sanctions in line with UN Security Council resolutions but was later expanded to allow entities London has accused of human rights violations to be targeted.
The law states that the government can detain “specified ships” in its territorial waters or prevent them from entering. This can affect vessels going through the English Channel – one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes. It also says that any ships can be targeted, except for those of the navies of foreign nations. The legislation does not explicitly mention the use of military force, though.
According to BBC, it is unclear when the UK could launch an operation targeting a foreign vessel. The British military have not boarded any vessels so far, the broadcaster said, adding that the UK did aid the US in seizing the ‘Marinera’ oil tanker last week.
The ship was intercepted in international waters northwest of Scotland. Moscow, which granted the tanker a temporary sailing permit, condemned the seizure as a gross violation of international rules.
Since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, Western governments have imposed sweeping sanctions on Russia, targeting its oil trade and what they call its “shadow fleet” in particular.
According to BBC, London has imposed restrictions against more than 500 suspected “shadow fleet” vessels. The UK also imported oil products from refineries processing Russian crude worth £3 billion ($4.04 billion) over a period between 2022 and the second quarter of 2025, according to a June report by the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA). That generated £510 million ($687 million) in revenue for Moscow.

A privateer was a pirate with papers.
As the name suggests, privateers were private individuals commissioned by governments to carry out quasi-military activities.
They would sail in privately owned armed ships, robbing merchant vessels and pillaging settlements belonging to a rival country.

Surely you don’t expect natives of the calibre of Ngā Tāngata Tiaki o Whanganui to float their fat pukus that distance on a diet of huhu grubs, fernroot & water.
I would like to see them try.

Good advice when you get a scammer on your phone. Stay silent. If it’s a real call that person will speak first .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdwjGnzNnDw
A part of my problem is that I do have genuine callers from overseas, not only friends, but also sort of business, and there can be time delays, echoes, let alone their accents.
I only say only my ” ‘First name’ speaking” then if silence, then place the phone against a radio speaker & turn volume up.
The luck of the dice whether is a radio host, music or the news.
Often then the time will run out on them.
If genuine they will call out, with more of description or name & of what they are about.
I then ask “Who do they want to speak to?”
If they ask if they are speaking to a “Mr ……” then my response is “Which one?”.
Then to be helpful I ask, “What sort of business do you want to contact them for?”.
Only last month achieved getting ‘phone number ID’ although many actual legitimate calls hide that phone ID as being private.
So maybe I should up grade my answering habits. 😉
What the fuck? are these leaders insane?

They REALLY DO Want to Ban X!
BlackBeltBarrister
People need to generate a new bikini pick daily and email them to that cunt in 10 Downing street. That is one piece of shit I can’t wait to see the back of.
Lol. Yep, maybe Elon could create a daily online newspaper within X from the feeds and have a daily bikini image of the various woke European and other leaders as the page three “girl”.
Apparently UK, Canada and Aussie govt (plus presumably NZ) believe all banning X together will work.
Can it be that ACT & NZFirst is holding Luxon, that is NZ back, in joining with this further madness of censoring?
I give them both credit in not recognizing a Palestinian State, ie. Hamas.
Maybe even being a bit wary of Trump’s reactions, like our trade with the USA, having had major tarriff shots being put across our bow, then much reduced.
Downing Street reportedly held talks in recent days with Canberra and Ottawa to craft a joint response to the tech platform,
https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2026/01/11/uk-seeks-to-partner-with-australia-and-canada-in-censorship-plot-against-elon-musks-x-report/

Which is still busy & working in the bank-ground.
It is fully intended to shut down where any conservative views can be sort of openly discussed, and where data, information becomes knowledge.
Once it becomes a knowledge, that has been mulled over, considered, reasoned, tested, experienced, then it is very difficult, nigh on impossible; for the collective liberal socialist to change, the mind that did all that work.
Erika Stanford is working on bringing in soc media age restrictions to NZ for under 16’s. I think she finds censorship a little too tempting.
It’s hilarious the Aussie kids have found their way around the restrictions imposed 👍
Bear in mind Trump has been talking on the Greenland issue just on a year, then amped it a bit more recently.
So Nato, some of the Europeans have been triggered to get off their arses by Trump’s rhetoric about Greenland.
….. The UK is in talks with European allies about deploying NATO-backed military forces to Greenland to protect it from Russia and China.
British officials held meetings with other countries, including France and Germany, to consider early-stage plans for a possible NATO mission.
The proposal could involve troops, warships, and aircraft being sent to Greenland to strengthen security there. …..
https://europeanconservative.com/articles/news/european-allies-discuss-sending-nato-forces-to-greenland/
So it is a plan of a plan, and Trump will only quiten down when he sees those actions & hold to it.
Sort of funny as no real mention about Denmark putting up a few more “dog sleds”.
It is sort of “Use it or lose it”, as it will be sorted one way or the other.
When Starmer announced he was ready to send British boots to fight Russians one of the military brass stated they require a $28billion injection of funding. How does Starmer propose to fund Greenland as well?

UK facing £28bn defence spending gap claims
The government is refusing to deny reports that plans to make Britain’s armed forces “war ready” will require billions more than it has allocated so far.
Sir Richard Knighton, the chief of the defence staff, delivered the forecast to Sir Keir and Chancellor Rachel Reeves in the run-up to Christmas at a meeting in Downing Street, it is reported.
You are right wg.
I think that is a part of Trump’s game plan too?
Then there is the dream that UK can use the Ukraine to hit Moscow.
They may be saying only 9 million pounds here, but can you believe that?
11th January 2026….. Under Project Nightfall, the UK has launched a competition to rapidly develop ground-launched ballistic missiles with a range of more than 500 kilometres and designed to operate in high-threat battlefields with heavy electromagnetic interference. …..
….. their first three missiles within 12 months for test firings. ….
…… The detailed Nightfall requirements were shared with Industry Partners on the 19 December 2025 that had signed the required confidentiality and security arrangements.
The deadline to receive Nightfall development proposals is the 9th February 2026, with development contract(s) aimed to be awarded in March 2026. …..
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-to-develop-new-deep-strike-ballistic-missile-for-ukraine
Is there anything about WARP speed, cost over-runs, testing to actual production. etc.. then, even to deliver them to the Ukraine.
Is that putting a target on the UK’s back in some form or other?
I’m not much impressed with the world of social networking platforms. They range from the execrable Facebook which has deteriorated from its halcyon days when yuppies posted photos of their meals to the slightly more upmarket wank offered by X. Yet it appears that my indifference to the latter is small beer compared with Keir Starmer.
According to https://unitynewsnetwork.co.uk/starmer-x-and-the-war-on-public-conversation/ :
#. “Keir Starmer has reportedly flirted with the idea of banning X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, following his public humiliation at the hands of Grok, which generated AI images of him in a bikini. The justification, apparently, is safety, dignity, and control. The reality feels rather different.”
#.”What this episode reveals is not a serious concern about harm, but a deep discomfort with unfiltered public conversation. X is not just a website; it is a digital pub. Loud, chaotic, frequently offensive, often stupid but fundamentally a place where people speak to one another without permission. Starmer’s apparent instinct is not to laugh it off, or even challenge it politically, but to shut it down.”
And that struck a note. The real Kiwi pub where working men gathered at the end of the day to take the healing waters & chew the fat over news, politics, sport & the weather no longer exists. It died at the hands of wowsers, feminists, safety freaks & those who know what’s best for us.
The one forum which was inexplicably socially conservative & where pragmatism trumped idealism at every turn disappeared. How convenient for the Left.
The digital pub to further debate, discussion, & just being ok; Good one!
The real pubs have to figure in the ‘mini-bus’ uber & taxi, or the no-drink driver.
But what has it achieved?
Always pushing in NZ to lower the alcolhol limit, but then it gets to the point that there is no return.
Except for the higher salaried career empire building establishment officials.
I see that Keir Starmer, Labour Party, shhhh, along with pleasing muslims, I think have just lowered the drink drive to blend in with Scotland & Europe.
Will that Starmer ban images of ropes, & lamp-posts?
Lowering the drink-drive limit in Scotland did not reduce the rate of road traffic accidents in the two years after the law changed, compared with the two years before
https://evidence.nihr.ac.uk/alert/a-lower-drink-drive-limit-in-scotland-is-not-linked-to-reduced-road-traffic-accidents-as-expected/
But the system has achieved so much more control over the citizens.
Perhaps the summer of our ill contempt & discontent may be found at the barbecues.
For the winter, maybe bring on “pot-luck” dinners.
Party, party, party.
Then the wowsers want to increase taxes, and close down more outlets under even more devious sound-byte useless meme practices, of for your ‘ealth & ‘afety.
….”Always pushing in NZ to lower the alcolhol limit, but then it gets to the point that there is no return.”…..
That point is long gone. In fact only the vociferous do gooders saw much point in going below 100mg. Before the breathalyser was introduced in 1969 you had to fall out of your car when stopped to be considered impaired but the new technology had the desired effect.
At 100mg most men could scrape through on two jugs over an hour & a half which was I guess was reasonable. For myself it fairly much did for after work sessions as there are few more people less employable than a commercial driver without a licence. In any case there was always cannabis.
But it signalled a culture change for NZ. Trouble is that I’m not sure that it was a change for the better.
Not that you need alcohol for fun but it does help the inhibited to loosen up. Wowsers and clipboard warriors don’t approve of others enjoying themselves.
And for Tarquin who is today winging his way back to the rain forests of the Far North I dedicate the opening sentence of my new novel:
“It was a dark & stormy night, or more specifically, a Tuesday afternoon in Whangarei.”
nasska
What have you got against the good citizens of Whangarei?
(Asking for a friend)
Very little. It’s just that they rark up better than most. 🙂
These are the words of the first 16 scientists of 46 that have left the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) due to the corruption of science within the organisation.
Dr Robert Balling: The IPCC notes that “No significant acceleration in the rate of sea level rise during the 20th century has been detected.” This did not appear in the IPCC Summary for Policymakers.
Dr Lucka Bogataj: “Rising levels of airborne carbon dioxide don’t cause global temperatures to rise…. temperature changed first and some 700 years later a change in aerial content of carbon dioxide followed.”
Dr John Christy: “Little known to the public is the fact that most of the scientists involved with the IPCC do not agree that global warming is occurring. Its findings have been consistently misrepresented and/or politicized with each succeeding report.”
Dr Rosa Compagnucci: “Humans have only contributed a few tenths of a degree to warming on Earth. Solar activity is a key driver of climate.”
Dr Richard Courtney: “The empirical evidence strongly indicates that the anthropogenic global warming hypothesis is wrong.”
Dr Judith Curry: “I’m not going to just spout off and endorse the IPCC because I don’t have confidence in the process.”
Dr Robert Davis: “Global temperatures have not been changing as state of the art climate models predicted they would. Not a single mention of satellite temperature observations appears in the IPCC Summary for Policymakers.”
Dr Willem de Lange: “In 1996 the IPCC listed me as one of approximately 3000 “scientists” who agreed that there was a discernible human influence on climate. I didn’t. There is no evidence to support the hypothesis that runaway catastrophic climate change is due to human activities.”
Dr Chris de Freitas: “Government decision-makers should have heard by now that the basis for the long-standing claim that carbon dioxide is a major driver of global climate is being questioned; along with it the hitherto assumed need for costly measures to restrict carbon dioxide emissions. If they have not heard, it is because of the din of global warming hysteria that relies on the logical fallacy of ‘argument from ignorance’ and predictions of computer models.”
Dr Oliver Frauenfeld: “Much more progress is necessary regarding our current understanding of climate and our abilities to model it.”
Dr Peter Dietze: “Using a flawed eddy diffusion model, the IPCC has grossly underestimated the future oceanic carbon dioxide uptake.”
Dr John Everett: “It is time for a reality check. The oceans and coastal zones have been far warmer and colder than is projected in the present scenarios of climate change. I have reviewed the IPCC and more recent scientific literature and believe that there is not a problem with increased acidification, even up to the unlikely levels in the most-used IPCC scenarios.”
Dr Eigil Friis-Christensen: “The IPCC refused to consider the sun’s effect on the Earth’s climate as a topic worthy of investigation. The IPCC conceived its task only as investigating potential human causes of climate change.”
Dr Lee Gerhard: “I never fully accepted or denied the anthropogenic global warming concept until the furore started after NASA’s James Hansen’s wild claims in the late 1980s. I went to the [scientific] literature to study the basis of the claim, starting with first principles. My studies then led me to believe that the claims were false.”
Dr Indur Goklany: “Climate change is unlikely to be the world’s most important environmental problem of the 21st century. There is no signal in the mortality data to indicate increases in the overall frequencies or severities of extreme weather events, despite large increases in the population at risk.”
Dr Vincent Gray: “The [IPCC] climate change statement is an orchestrated litany of lies.”

Thanks Alice.
All well said, & very damming of the IPCC credibility.
In the meantime trust the media to debate it, discuss this? ..yeah right …
While the media have set up a number of their coordinated Climate Change points with global media amplification
AI …..
Oxford Climate Journalism Network (OCJN) at the Reuters Institute, have established a global initiative to enhance climate change reporting, treating it as a systemic issue intersecting all beats (health, tech, sports) rather than just an isolated topic, by training journalists, connecting them with experts, and promoting integrated, impactful coverage worldwide.
Which really pushes activism, and probably gains money from NGO’s who are able gain more from the taxpayer & remain unelected & unaccountable.
https://reutersinstitute.politics.ox.ac.uk/oxford-climate-journalism-network
The Oxford system would reach deeply into the NZ media echo chamber, and deep into our education system.
Here’s the downside to a Trump presidency.

For those that can’t view Telegram it’s a video of a 23yr old with no job no money and a one way ticket to NZ.
A dead loss; Bar him.
Of course I will be pointed at, for unconcious bias, of some sorts, & I was just noting his hands.
Were the finger nails a part of practicing black-face to achieve some form of DEI?
Will they even let him on plane with a 1 way ticket to NZ?
Maybe he has deviously got a ticket on to Australia, who then later would not accept him, stranding him to become an illegal in NZ with the other 23,000 overstayers here.
Doubtlessly there is a dereliction of duty, incompententency, as not up for the job NZ Immigration Department to get things done.
It sort of reminds of the deviousness of Mendacious Menendez March who Ricardo’d into gaining citizenship by connecting to the Greens & a nice salary with great perks.
Bring back dawn raids.
Entitlement shock? Good luck gaining entry past NZ border control without diversity points.
Just had a read about the Dancing Plague of Strasbourg in 1518. Bizarre!
I suspect that there’s a link between the dance session in Strasbourg that started in July of 1518 & the Reformation. Martin Luther is said to have posted his Ninety-five Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg in October 1517.
Getting shot of the Pope & his merry band of boy buggerers would be good cause for getting on the piss for a few months while dancing in the streets. Regrettably as history records that hocus pocus was merely swapped for another brand of mind magic & the franchise continued under new sponsors.
I first thought was who played the music? in relays? like pass the baton, to pass the violin?
Or all just in one’s head, or just a humming, singing, though it ‘sounds’ like it was actually rather discordant, as it seemed in part the movements could be spasmodic.
Now I see the connection to Saint Vitus, who’s is connected to a type of syndrome and that dance factor,
Plus also being a Saint for epilepsy
Yet to pray to a Saint Vitus shrine, a young tortured martyr, which was a sort of phycological cure to the Dancing Plague & it came to a stop.
Coincidence? Seasonal?
Ergot on rye grass, like sheep & cattle getting rye-grass staggers, where a little bit of stress, then brings it on in a form of spasm & not so controllable movement.
If one can keep the stress level just below a certain level, they can walk, but a bit more stress, then a sort of “bunny hopping” and as that creates more stress to a level they can balance so fall over, in a rigid way.

From Free Speech Union
Hi Friend,
We need your help – urgently.
Buried inside a “technical” telecoms bill is a major new free speech and privacy risk.
And unless people speak up in the next 24 hours, it will likely pass unnoticed.
The Bill would quietly expand New Zealand’s surveillance regime in a way that risks undermining encryption and free expression.
It does this by extending interception powers to overseas communication services used by Kiwis. This is a major amendment – which could have serious implications on free speech.
Submissions close tomorrow night.
Take action now
Please make a submission opposing the Telecommunications and Other Matters Amendment Bill.
A short, personal submission helps – especially this late in the process.
👉 Deadline: 14 January, 11:59pm
👉 Committee: Economic Development, Science and Innovation Committee
👉 How: Submit via Parliament’s website
Our website has a page which includes two templates submissions – in case you are short of time – click here to view them.
Why this is a free speech problem
Many modern communication services rely on end-to-end encryption. That means even the provider cannot access message content.
These services cannot comply with interception demands without breaking encryption itself. There is no technical workaround.
So, providers face a choice:
Either outcome chills speech.
Encryption is not a luxury. It’s essential for:
If people believe the Government can access encrypted communications – or force providers to comply – they change how they speak.

Yes, those big touchscreens in cars are dangerous and buttons are coming back, Milad Haghani says
In recent years, the way drivers interact with cars has fundamentally changed. Physical buttons have gradually disappeared from dashboards as more functions have been transferred to touchscreens.
Touchscreens in vehicle dashboards date back to the 1980s. But modern cars consolidate functions into these systems far beyond what we’ve seen before, to the point where a car feels mostly like a computer.
This may create the impression of a modern, technologically advanced vehicle. However, scientific evidence increasingly points to touchscreens compromising our safety.
In fact, ANCAP Safety, the independent car safety assessment program for Australia and New Zealand, has announced that from 2026 it will ask car manufacturers to “bring back buttons” for important driver controls, including headlights and windscreen wipers. Similar moves are underway in Europe.
ANCAP Safety will explicitly assess how vehicle design supports safe driving, and not just how well occupants are protected in the event of a crash – which means calling time on touchscreens that control everything in your car.

couldn’t agree more.
I watched something like the top 10 crap features in modern cars and physical buttons being replaced by touchscreen functions was one of them.
Done purely for cost saving purposes, not driver benefit. Hard to get the correct button on a touchscreen when driving and they don’t work with gloves which is a big issue in colder climates.
Based on the clip I watched, I probably wouldn’t want a new car.

The lucky country eh!
