Hey, hunty get outta the sack, there’s good news on the waves.

Rents are rising.
True, according to the latest stats.

Shortage of rentals in many places, especially down south.

More expensive there now than in Tauranga.

yey.

Not sure how to break the news to Naaska.

Would you like to tell him?
It will be tough on the old fella. The rocking chair will get a pounding.

New Zealand’s rents are rising again after 18 months of stagnant or falling prices, and one region is making a particularly sharp move.
The national median weekly rent reached $625 in August, up $5 a week on the same month last year, according to the latest Trade Me Property Rental Price Index.
It is the first year on year increase since January 2025, as the supply of rental properties tightens and renter demand starts to pick up.
But the biggest jump is Otago, where rents rose close to 8% in a single month to reach $700 a week.

That means Otago has overtaken Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and Bay of Plenty, both at $660, as the country’s most expensive rental market.

Ask V2. He’d rent out the house on per room basis at $2000/week + outgoings & advertise the woodshed as a bedsit.

Weekly Rent by Bedroom Count
Rental prices vary depending on the size of the home according to data from the Tenancy Services Market Rent and local property insights:
1 Bedroom / Studio: $500 – $610 per week (Median: $610)
2 Bedrooms: $500 – $630 per week (Median: $580)
3 Bedrooms: $570 – $710 per week (Median: $650
4 Bedrooms: $634 – $840 per week (Median: $765)
5+ Bedrooms: $698 – $1,000+ per week (Median: $860)

4 to 5-Bedroom large or rural homes: Range from $750 to $1,100 per week depending on acreage, modern amenities, or location.

So more context needed.

Cambridge falls within Area 2 when WINZ are calculating the welfare for landlords accommodation benefit so a sole parent, 2+ children will receive $220/week to help pay the extortionate rent NZ landlords think is due to them.

Ah nasska. I just worked out the fortune I will receive on my single property rental empire.

A grand total of around $250 per week net – without allowing for any maintenance.

Given that getting the thing painted will conservatively cost $20k and needs to be done every eight years, I’m left (at best) with $10.5 k per year.

On my equity, that’s a net return of 1.79% per year. Guess I’m creaming it!

Your anti-landlord hysteria is ridiculous.

And given that the people living in my home are living in a nicer version than I ever had, and pay less than I ever did (I had to push the loan term waaaay out to not haemorrhage money), just reinforces how retarded your comments are.

As Viking almost certainly has right too – as a farmer you would have used every tax dodge known to man, then sold your farm with no CGT, then you have the bare-faced cheek to somehow claim that landlords are ripping people off.

Before you frame your membership certificate to the Slum Landlords of NZ Inc & hang it on the wall consider this:

#. At no point have I suggested that you or V2 are illiterate or innumerate. Nor do you strike me as the nostalgic type who would retain the home for sentimental reasons.

Hence it would be logical to infer that you expect some solid increase in capital value in the medium term, Qiulae Wong excepted. The 1.79% return, although modest, is a deposit on your expected gain.

#. Painting at 8 year intervals is an extravagance. Your average Kiwi private landlord stretches this out to 10/12 years or when the colour of the bare wood becomes obvious, whichever occurs first. This is the way a casual observer can identify a rental from an owner occupied property with 98% accuracy. Condition of fences is another give away. As previously noted maintenance is traditionally financed by & is equal to that obtained by confiscation of each outgoing tenant’s bond.

#. Your suggestion of tax “dodging” on my part was very hurtful. Even if my accountant holidayed frequently in the south of France I’m certain that, when he wasn’t writing up his bill to me for ‘services rendered’, he was an honest & upright citizen!

#. My anti-landlord hysteria isn’t ridiculous. It’s a hobby.

I couldn’t afford to sell and didn’t wish to line the agent’s pocket to the tune of $30k plus. I don’t expect gain for many years, if it all. If there is it likely won’t be real gain when adjusted for inflation. Basically I’m not smart enough to find a better investment.

Painting every eight years for a weatherboard house within 400 m of the sea is extravagant, you say? In which universe do you live? My house was (supposedly) professionally painted in late 2016 and OMFG the prep. I had to do on it before painting late last year and early this year was not small. If I’d left it longer I’d have had serious issues.

My fences on two of four sides are fucked. Nothing about being a rental – neither the neighbours or I, care.

I only ever took bond from one tenant who most definitely deserved it. My house is with a quality property management company, not known for screwing tenants over. Pretty sure most landlords are the same.

I apologise if I appeared to imply that you did or would ever, avoid tax. It is as far as I know, though, common knowledge that farmers stretch interpretation of tax rules to the very limit.

to be fair, seeing what kids can do to a house id be seeking more then what most charge aswell, then factor in a dero single parent and meh, yeah the carrot would have to be dangled big time to rent to them.

if we migrate to aus for a few years we certainly wont be renting out our house. its literally not worth it, plus id like the comfort in knowing im keeping a piece of shit homeless somewhere 🙂 but seriously the house can stay empty a few years, ill lease out the 10ha of grass. thatll make me hassle free money and no damage or dumb shit to deal with at the end.

They were talking about the response to taxes listed in that survey. The positive or negative response came down to whether or not the surveyed would be directly included in paying that particular tax.

Yes to a “weath tax” because I won’t be included while No to a “fuel” tax
because I commute every day, etc, etc.

trumps iran failure has got him bigly in the shit after draining the strategic reserve and still failing bigly in iran, now hes looking to ban diesel exports…. the same exports that have been propping up the global fuel supply chain.
oh dear, there was some stupid cunt on ysb a few months telling you lot that aug/sept the true oil crisis would hit and to enjoy your $7 fuel all for the love of your orange hero.
looks like that stupid cunt was a few weeks early with his call on the situation but its now starting.

its now raised 50cents over the past month, enjoy the cheap fuel while you can esp the diesel. at 3.20 its a bargain, it may temporarily drop at some trump taco announcement but its all uppity up up up from here until trump concedes defeat to iran and even then hormuz may not flow normal if iran want to punish the orange retard further.

this all couldve been avoided if the orange retard said no to his jew puppet masters. hes israel first, ego second and dosent give a fuck about america and most certainly dont give a fuck about the rest of the world.
bring on impeachment

fwiw diesel in iran is less than 1c nz per litre 🤣 yup theyre on their knees and struggling big time. verge of collapse and revolution//////

Proves absolutely nothing because Iran heavily subsidises its domestic fuel, this rate is exceptionally low when converted to global currencies, making it the cheapest diesel fuel in the world. Depending on exchange rate fluctuations, this equates to roughly:

$0.006 USD per liter (~$0.02 to $0.08 USD per gallon)
Probably because they can’t sell it at the moment so use it to avoid storage and to try and influence public opinion of the regime.

It’s really good in Iran at the moment with such cheap deisel oh wait the inflation rate is 87% and food is not cheap or abundent:

“Vegetables and Staples: Citizens reporting via platforms like Iran International note that buying just a few kilograms of ordinary vegetables can cost around 25 million Rials—instantly wiping out 15% of a worker’s entire monthly wage on a single grocery run”

if you want to believe that then you should believe the un on everything, the climate hysteria and also what hamas claims death toll in gaza.

search biased activist slop youll get biased activist slop results.

as i said, go check out vids on the ground there. it looks like a pretty normal place in 2026. it certainly dosent look like a country on verge of collapse, shops are busy and there appears to be no shortages of goods although i guess that could differ regionally.

now do you remember when ysb folk were telling us tehran was 10days away from ruin and due to water dams running dry? what happened there 🤣…. oh yeah, they believed msm and social media parrots.
sure its still fucked but believing everything reported in msm or online leaves one looking like a moron.

but the rest of iran seems to be ticking along ok. go checkout a few youtube chanels on the ground there, its nothing like what trumptard or msm claim.

anyways the point of the above was pointing out the heavily subsidized/manipulated global fuel prices are ending. i suggest stocking up on vaseline or other lubricant cuz youre about to get fucking arse raped bigly by trumps fuel fuckup, esp diesel users… enjoy 🤣, best hope it dosent move too quickly by nov 7 or trumps cherry on top for you lot will be gifting nz a labour led govt.

I followed a link in an article about it. The address was withheld for the property listing, but when I clicked the property history it came up as 31 Quirk Street.

I didn’t feel entirely confident that that house matched the description, so it’s probably misdirection – can’t believe they’d be that sloppy.

What is there not to admire about the great man?

nasska

After a night at a singles bar, a man in his late 60’s chats up two girls in their 20’s, and talks them into a threesome at his place the following evening. The next day, the pressure of satisfying two, substantially younger women begins to weigh on him. He goes to local pharmacy, and after some discussion, the old playboy heads home with a box of Viagra.

The next day, he returns.

“I think I need your help again” he says to the pharmacist, and drops his pants.

The man’s dick is rubbed raw, is bright red, and is obviously extremely painful.

“I need all the Deep Heat rub you have” he says grimly.

“Are you out of your mind?” cries the pharmacist “You can’t put Deep Heat on that you’ll be in agony!”

“Huh? Oh not for my dick, for my arms – those two girls never showed up last night.”
