So how will Mr Hipkins address this problem? Renewable energy!
So if he becomes PM, households won’t see the cost of living go down.
Rather it will continue to skyrocket. Simply because renewable energy is one of the major drivers of cost of living increases.
The Labour leader’s wrong headed thinking on this aligns with similar ideological nonsense from his socialist comrades like Keir Starmer in the UK and Tony Albanese in Australia.
This dangerous and foolish obsession with falsely named renewables, driven by political ambition, greed and cronyism, has seen energy prices rise to a a level three times what they were a decade ago.
If Mr Hipkins really wanted to address the cost of living, he would completely abandon renewable energy and a good start would be to discontinue the Emissions Trading Scheme.
Taking close to one billion dollars from consumer’s pockets every year it is driving up the cost of every household item. Including food and fuel.
A simple remedy, but unacceptable to Hipkins because of his rigid ideological stance.

Hebrew media is blowing the lid off the official story behind Saturday’s enormous explosion near Beit Shemesh. What Israeli authorities called a “planned rocket propulsion test” at a Tomer facility now looks like a serious accident at Sdot Micha Airbase that may have destroyed a large stockpile of Arrow-3 interceptors.
Speculation points to a fire in sodium perchlorate storage — a key ingredient for missile motors — that got out of control and detonated. This could have taken out munitions for one of Israel’s only two Arrow-3 batteries.
The Arrow-3 is no ordinary weapon. It is Israel’s premier exo-atmospheric shield against ballistic missiles from Iran and other threats. Losing a big chunk of the inventory right now, amid ongoing tensions with Tehran, is a major blow to readiness and production capacity.
The timing raises serious questions. The blast hit on the Sabbath with no advance warnings to nearby residents. Media faced initial gag orders before limited reporting was allowed. That does not scream routine test — it smells like damage control.
After Iran’s earlier strikes on Israeli targets including Beit Shemesh, the Jewish state cannot afford gaps in its missile defenses. Strong, reliable systems like Arrow-3 are essential for survival in a hostile region. If this accident exposed real vulnerabilities, officials need to come clean fast instead of spinning narratives. Every time a politician uses the phrase, “we have a maxed-out credit card”,
take a drink. Within two minutes, you’ll be passed out on the floor with the dog licking your big toe like it’s a FruJu.
It’s May, baby. It’s Budget season. And that means a miserable conga line of politicians lining up to repeat, ‘NZ has a maxed out credit card’.
Luxon, in pre-budget media last Tuesday, referred to the previous administration tripling debt and maxing out the credit cards. Speaking about the country’s credit ratings in March, David Seymour again said, “ The previous government frankly maxxed out the credit card”, And at Budget time last year, Nicola Willis described the country as having “run out of credit cards”.
Every time they say this, it paints a certain image in our heads. That, on the whole, NZ is broke. Even its Mum won’t lend it five bucks because she’s sick of us being a bum. And it conjures a specific, sweaty, prickly feeling that we all know too well. It takes us to the Woolworths checkout every Sunday, where we’re mentally trying to calculate the shopping to see if we’re one bunch of bananas away from the card being declined.
Speaking of bananas, that’s what this analogy is. Up there with, “you run a country like you do a household,” and “he knows how to run a business, so can run a country” ie. things we say confidently at BBQs that are actual total bunk.
It is not an accurate allusion to say New Zealand has a maxed-out credit card.
First off, this metaphor makes it sound like our borrowing – and Government borrowing – work the same way. They absolutely do not.
When we get a credit card, it’s based on our fixed income of e.g., $72k. We have a limit, say $5k, on the card. And, if we’re maxed out, it means we can’t pay off the $5k. We’re just doing the interest.
Government does not have a fixed income eg if it wants more cash, it can raise taxes or sell assets or borrow. It doesn’t have a $5k limit. There’s no actual numerical limit to how much NZ’s debt should be. (The debt-to-GDP ratio just has to be ‘prudent’.) And we’re not struggling to make those interest payments

Economic commentator and journalist Bernard Hickey points out, “the amount of interest the New Zealand Government has to pay out net every year is the equivalent of 1.7% of its disposable income.” That’s, er, fine. As Hickey points out, if you went to the bank and said, I’ve got a mortgage that takes 1.7% of my disposable income to service, can I have another mortgage so I can build a bigger house…? They’d say yes. Absolutely.
But above all, this credit card metaphor implies we’re a nation on the bones of our ass.
And we’re just not. In 2024, Michael Reddell, economist and former special advisor at the Reserve Bank, pointed out categorically that NZ is ‘not on the brink of bankruptcy’. And, as Hickey points out, we’re not broke now either. We’re actually quite well off, and NZ has a helluva lot of assets that no one ever really mentions when we talk about our debt.
And, despite the hysterical whispering in the bathroom, our debt isn’t that bad. In his blog, Redell points out that the preferred way of measuring debt ( including our super fund assets) showed central government net debt was projected to be 23.1 % of GDP at the end of the 24/25 financial year. And globally, NZ has one of the world’s lowest net debt ratios.
We’re certainly not one bunch of bananas away from our card being declined. We are, however, in a recession. People feel skint. And we want to know why. And you can see how banging on about maxed out credit cards lets the public make an easy mental deduction: ‘Oh, I feel skint because the nation is skint’.
It’s much harder, not to mention politically embarrassing, to explain, “ah, yeah, we’re actually not broke. Yep, we borrowed to get through covid, but then our ‘go for growth’ plan isn’t going too well, we’re all ideologically obsessed with reducing debt to GDP, we have a housing slump, global inflation, low productivity, household debt is maxed out, plus the past 40 odd years of Government has PTSD from the poison hobgoblin Robert Muldoon’s disastrous projects and successive governments are terrified of high debt….and all of that means you’re feeling skint.”
So, we whip out a credit card analogy. And every time I hear it, I feel like I mistakenly went on a date with a finance bro. One of those 22-year-olds who has been at PWC 8 months, and wears a lanyard to bed, and thinks this means he understands the world. You can’t run a government on Afterpay, babe!
No. You can’t. And we don’t.
And the next time someone whips out this card analogy, don’t listen to Mr Lanyard.

They should test for mRNA impairment. An ex cop mate said that in 15 years of policing he only attended one accident where the driver had dropped dead at the wheel thus causing an accident.
He said in North Canterbury there were 3 such deaths in a few months. Dead before impact and caught on truck cam. Also said there are a lot more single vehicle accidents. People dropping dead while driving.
It is also being noticed by farmers and rural types. Cars pulled over or run off the road because of a stroke or whatever. One farmer said that there where two in just a few months out where he lived, and that was the first he had seen in decades.
We should absolutely require police to have probable cause to stop a vehicle and administer an alcohol or drug test.
I was required to have an evidential breath test a few months ago – would never drive if I had any inkling that I might be impaired. Being made to feel like a criminal for having one beer two hours beforehand, consumed with a substantial meal, does not make me like the police more than I do now.
It is an egregious impingement on our rights to be stopped arbitrarily and subjected to bullshit. It’s just about power and control.

They’re building a new wind farm at Aranga which is at the top end of Bayleys Beach north of Dargaville and is commonly known as a wind swept hell hole where nobody would want to live. They are bringing all the bits in to Northport and trucking them over from there. They have some kind of weird trombone trailer that I’m told can stretch out to 80 metres to shift the big bits. Anyway, a mate of mine is a smaller truck driver and he’s taken many loads over to the site. Before he can even go through the gate he gets breath tested and drug tested. Can’t see the point, it’s at least an hour and a half trip from Marsden Point up some fairly dodgy roads through six toe banjo county. If you can survive that you deserve a medal not a drug test.

They are easier, faster & more available.

I don’t agree that AI is close to acceptable treatment but then again neither are virtual appointments, Telehealth, doctors who can barely speak English & fat, useless, knowall nurse practioners along with incompetent data storage & security of personal info. That’s before you have to survive for the nine weeks it takes to get a non urgent appointment with the local quack.
On balance medical AI looks to be a necessary if substandard option.

I suspect Donald Trump is the limiting factor. in getting the ACTIV-6 ivermectin fraud to the public. He doesn’t want anything bad said about the COVID vaccines and has backed off childhood vaccines. It’s hard for me to believe that Trump doesn’t know what happened in ACTIV-6 ivermectin.
Trump can use the ACTIV-6 fraud to his advantage. If NIH chairman, Jay Bhattacharya went public with the NIH ACTIV-6 fraud, Trump would be a hero. Trump could attack Fauci, Collins and NIH who cost him the 2020 election by sabotaging hydroxychloroquine. The first attachment has evidence against Fauci. and how to file a civil suit against him and all those involved in ACTIV-6.
Trump could attack the media, especially the NY Times. My article which I attached buries the NY Times’ reporting on ACTIV-6. I wrote dialogue for a Bhattacharya/Trump press conference.
Personally I think there is nothing that will piss Americans off and galvanize them behind republicans and against democrats more than them finding out that the US government under Biden got NIH, Duke, Vanderbilt to intentionally run a fake drug trial to falsely make ivermectin appear ineffective when ivermectin would have
1). Prevented tens of thousands of deaths during delta
2). Prevented much of the Long COVID since it should have been declared effective in October 2021.
3). Prevented 100,000 deaths in hospitals during delta. Hospitals would have had to use ivermectin on inpatients who were critically ill because it had gotten an EUA September 2021.
4). Ivermectin at an appropriate dose given as early as possible would be the first treatment of choice all over the world because it’s cheap, safe, effective and compared to paxlovid has far fewer side effects, drug interactions, no reported rebound, costs at least 28 times less and unlike paxlovid prevents Long COVID.
I am hoping someone can convince Donald Trump to go public with the truth. If he doesn’t, it will get to the public sooner or later. The democrats will be blamed for the phony ivermectin trials but Trump and the republicans will be blamed for covering it up.
If his legacy is what matters to him, Trump will tell the truth and turn on the drug companies. Not telling the truth is a big risk for him. I included potential dialogue for Trump and Dr. Jay Bhattacharya in the 3rd attachment.
